Never had mince pies with custard. Either 'naked' or with cream. They look awesome...
But, Oh NO Pat...I see you too have been corrupted too, in using cream...what happened to the good old custard?
A lot of bought ones are way too sweet for me and have too much filling to pastry ratio.I love the small ones, I find the mince sometimes a bit sharp and others over sweet...so I like the small ones with the extra pastry.
The large pies are good too...but must have custard right?
Over here they don't use it...they have cream with mince pies.
Now my fav is still Trifle... I would take trifle any day over Christmas pudding or mince pies.
But trifle is not really favoured here either....
Even so! Give God the glory as we are content with what He has given us... even our taste buds.My husband doesn't like the either John, or Christmas pudding or cake.
Thank you very much!INGREDIENTS:
1 Sheet of ready made pastry.
1 Jar of mince meat.
Small amount of flour.
A little icing sugar.
EQUIPMENT:
1 Baking tray.
1 Pastry cutter.Use the medium round one.
1 Small star shaped cutter.
And a small sieve. I use a tea strainer like this one
METHOD:
Grease the baking tray with butter. I use a sheet of kitchen roll for this.
Follow the instructions on the ready-made pastry and un-roll the sheet.
Cut out the round shapes and place in baking tray.
Place one smallish teaspoon of mincemeat - that's the sweet stuff not actual meat - in each pie.
Cut out the star shapes and place on top of mincemeat.
Bake for around 15 minutes on Gas mark 5.
Cool on a wire tray and sprinkle with the icing sugar.
And they should look like the ones in the pic I posted earlier.
That's how I do it anyway. I'm hopeless at pastry so I cheat. Good result though.
You are very welcome. I've just made a batch and they smell delicious. Took me 3o minutes including cooking time.Thank you very much!
That's not bad at all. What brand of mincemeat do you buy?You are very welcome. I've just made a batch and they smell delicious. Took me 3o minutes including cooking time.
Store's own, Morrison's and the pastry is the same. Do you have a Morrison's?That's not bad at all. What brand of mincemeat do you buy?
If we do, I don't know about it. Maybe in other parts of the U.S.Store's own, Morrison's and the pastry is the same. Do you have a Morrison's?
I only saw part of this because our parakeet was very offended by it and started chirping obnoxiously. Just don't know about that bird. I'll have to finish it later in another part of the house. The Puritans banned Christmas in Massachusetts because so many people were rowdy, going house to house. . . the way they do in the "Figgy Pudding Song." I guess the British have toned that kind of celebrating down too. Ha, and finally the law got repealed in Massachusetts; but here's a video I found amusing.
