When Jesus surveyed the first century churches he made certain judgements concerning their state before him. In Rev 3:17 you will see many Christians attended the Laodicean church who in their ignorance thought they had Christ (baptised) as their covering, but in fact did not.
If our nakedness can be seen of them we have no covering of righteousness!
Like the Western nations this church was wealthy and did not heed the warnings nor did they use their wealth to better serve God see 1 Tim. 6:17; 1 Tim. 6:9,10,11.
In fact they used it to indulge themselves. From this they came to lay undue emphasis on material possessions to the exclusion of the church in Laodicea; its attitude and boastfulness repeated the same sin as Israel see Hos 12:8!!!
Now speaking practically of our age (2011); do you believe there are those out there who find themselves in a similar environment?
Are there Christians who wholeheartedly believe they have salvation, but in fact are dead to Jesus Christ?
If we are blind to our true state before Christ what good is his cleansing blood, sacrifice and Gospel message?
If you all (Robbie, Pegg, Jiggy, Prentis and Ducky) are "wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked" but you don’t release this truth - - then you do not have Christ and it was he who said he was coming to his own, who would find us in this state in Rev 16:15, implying that all of us will answer to this terrible blindness.
Your conversations ought to be about "how can we avoid being without the covering of Jesus Christ, though we think we are covered" because all your puffed up talk about righteousness will be meaningless, if you cannot answer these questions.
What did Jesus suggest they buy instead? Rev 3:18 And how do you buy these items?
Lift your minds fellow students.
