There are many lessons to be learned from Jesus' parable of the sower in Matthew chapter 13. And it is easy to see and understand Jesus speaking of different percentages of profit unto the kingdom that come from His words falling on good soil. But hearing and seeing--did you notice that those percentages chronologically--diminish and become smaller and smaller?

Which He did repeatedly saying: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" Three or more times in the gospels, and then again seven times in the book of Revelation. Only in the book of Revelation He actually says, what to hear: "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

It is my view that the "profit" returned in each case is not the point, but rather that the seed scattered produced a head of seed to be gathered. The parable speaks of a place in time when the ground conditions are right for the seed to be scattered which will result in a great harvest of souls.

The parable is not about how profitable each seed is, but rather that each seed planted produced more seed/souls for the kingdom of God.

I prefer the concept that it is speaking about the individual's response to the preaching and words of Jesus, the quality and strength of the individual's faith and his resultant character, the fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-24, not how many converts he makes. Each category speaks about the individual's response or lack of a true response to the word preached.

Thanks! Still, I should think none of the words are without a point. I am sure if a profit without regard to enumeration were the only point, He would not have been specific.

Yes, I see it even as a general circumstance or fading of words handed down from generation to generation.
