Sorry, I did not change from my original position that all of scripture is important.
John 1:12 does say this: -
John 1:6-12: - John’s Witness: The True Light
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
But the same Greek word used in John 1:12 is also found in Luke 8:13 where this is said: -
Luke 8:9-15: - 9 Then His disciples asked Him what this parable meant.
10 He replied, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,
‘though seeing, they may not see;
though hearing, they may not understand.’
11 Now this is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 The seeds along the path are those who hear, but the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
13 The seeds on rocky ground are those who hear the word and receive it with joy, but they have no root. They believe for a season, but in the time of testing, they fall away.
14 The seeds that fell among the thorns are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not mature.
15 But the seeds on good soil are those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, cling to it, and by persevering produce a crop.
Yes, John 1:12 is a verse that encourages us, but Luke 8:13 also warns us that if we only believe for a season and then fall away, is a warning that we should heed so as not to fall away.
Our salvation is dependent upon Christ's disciples sending their roots down into God's fertile field to draw all of our nourishment from Him so that we survive.
That was why I stated that all of scripture is important for us to read and apply to our lives so that we do not fall away after our initial believing in Christ.
As such we cannot cheery pick which parts of the scripture we will accept and reject. Doing so means that we are acting God like with the scriptures.
Shalom
