The New testament started with the book of acts …Jesus Himself ended the old testament, ascended , and presented His spotless blood to The Father .
…the New covenant in His blood.
Actually, the new covenant and testament began in Jeremiah 31:31-34.

i gave you LOVE because of:
Jesus Himself ended the old testament, ascended , and presented His spotless blood to The Father .
…the New covenant in His blood.

However, JESUS Himself is the New Covenant/Testament = Isaiah 42:9
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles

i AGREE with you, the fact that the Lord had to shed His Blood for the New Covenant to be fulfilled.

The New Testament/Covenant began when HE came to earth

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

The New Testament/Covenant began when HE came to earth = Luke 2:25-32

Now there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, who was righteous and devout.
He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
Led by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. And when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him what was customary under the Law, Simeon took Him in his arms and blessed God, saying:

“Sovereign Lord, as You have promised,
You now dismiss Your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
which You have prepared in the sight of all people,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and for glory to Your people Israel.”

Shalom Helen

@Doug and @Helen

You are 100% CORRECT in that JESUS had to Rise from the Grave and Ascend back to the FATHER with His Blood.

@Doug - Thank You for bringing forth Hebrews

Hebrews 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

This does not devalue or diminish the fact that the New Covenant/Testament began when the Word that was God became flesh.

His Ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit BEGAN the Gospel going forth by the Power of the Holy Spirit thru the Saints,
as it does to this day and to continuing to His Second Coming.

SHALOM to @Doug and @Helen

i wonder if @BarneyFife understands this

You said, "Regarding the new covenant, it is now in abeyance, awaiting Israels repentance, which will surely come."

Perhaps it is that you don't know the definition of abeyance?
"A state of temporary disuse or suspension."
'For finding fault with them, He saith,
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt;
because they continued not in My covenant,
and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
For this is the covenant that I will make
with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord;

I will put my laws into their mind,
and write them in their hearts:
and I will be to them a God,
and they shall be to me a people:'

(Heb 8:8-10)

Hello @Sister-in Christ,

I am aware of the meaning of the word 'abeyance', as I am with all the words that I use.
The fact that the new covenant is now in abeyance does not interfere with salvation by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
For the New Covenant will be made with the nation of Israel, as the Old Covenant was, as the verses quoted above make clear.
Christ Himself is the 'surety' of a better covenant (Heb.19-22).

Praise God!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus,
Chris

That Jesus died and physically rose from the dead to save them! It was not repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.
After Jesus ascended Peter and the disciples were indeed preaching his resurrection

[Act 2:30, 32 KJV] 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; ... 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

But they were preaching that Christ was raised to sit on David;s throne in the kingdom

He preached Jesus death and resurrection. And because this was a Jewish audience He also told them of the kingdom that Jesus will bring when He returns. This added message was for Jewish hearers only who responded to the gospel and get saved.
Peter was preaching to believe on the name of Jesus for salvation .........................[Act 4:12 KJV] 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved..................................[Act 2:38 KJV] 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Peter was not preaching Jesus died for their sins but rather to repent of his death...............................[Act 2:23 KJV] 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:.......................................[Act 3:15 KJV] 15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

Do you really believe the Apostles did not know that Jesus died and physically rose from the dead to pay for our sins?
Scripture says they didnt ................[Mar 9:31-32 KJV] 31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. 32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

Peter preached the gospel on the day of Pentecost. But remember because his audience was nearly all Jewish, it had a very Jewish flavor to it. Speaking of much OT passages to gentiles would be foolish. Nearly all Gentiles had no knowledge of the OT. but Peter could point to eh OT to show Jesus was the Messiah promised by god.
[Act 2:38 KJV] 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Peter did not preach Jesus died for their sins and rose again but rather to be baptized in his name for remission of sins

it isnt a preaching of Jewish flavour .....it is plainly said that the Jews had to be saved in the tribulation..................[Act 2:40 KJV] 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Sorry I dont remember.......do you say we are the Israel of God
God created two Israels.

Israel of the flesh = Romans 9:1-8

For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

God also created two covenants and two Jerusalems = Galatians chapters 3 & 4

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? 22For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. 23But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, 24which things are symbolic. For these are [g]the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— 25for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children— 26but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. 27For it is written:

“Rejoice, O barren,
You who do not bear!
Break forth and shout,
You who are not in labor!
For the desolate has many more children
Than she who has a husband.”
28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 29But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. 30Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” 31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.

Yes the new Jerusalem comes down from heaven in the new heavens and earth

If you are Israel you are waiting for forgiveness of sins..........................[Rom 11:27 KJV] 27 For this [is] my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins..............................[Act 3:19 KJV] 19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;.............................[Jer 31:34 KJV] 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

No, it was established at the time of the death of Jesus, ratified by His resurrection, and came in its fullness upon earth on Day of Pentecost
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to[a] them,[b]”
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”
