Then why did God regret that he ever created man in the first place? Furthermore, why would a perfect and divine being that already knows the future, feel an emotion like regret?
When God created mankind he gave them free will to make a choice, either answer His love for us in return or reject His love. Of course God knew in advance that free will comes with a price as it happened in the Garden when Adam and Eve were seduced by the devil and fell from grace. God knew that before He created mankind, that evil sooner or later would rear its ugly head because of the free will He equipped us with. And God BEFORE He created us He already had His master plan to deal with sin. We read in the book of Revelation about Jesus ---
the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world --- Jesus was God's master plan BEFORE He created us.
. Through Jesus love for us and His death on the cross we find forgiveness for our sins.
. Thanks to Jesus we receive eternal life if we answer to His love call.
As for this life, we are here to learn and make a choice, Adam & Eve (against God's express will) insisted to know the difference between good and evil and curious enough God gave Adam & Eve exactly what they wanted, He removed them from Paradise to the hostile earth as we know it, where death rules as a necessity, where there is good and loads of evil to experience, just read your daily paper or study history, the evil things mankind is able to do seems to have no limits, it can always be worse, just as you think you have seen everything then something else beats the horror mankind is able to.
And so it was in the days of Genesis 6, the picture you posted, even worse.
About your picture, God created us (as only living creature on earth) in His image. Without trying to be complete (emphasis added) it means :
. Like Him we are rational and emotional beings.
. Like Him we are spiritual beings, able to understand Him.
. Like Him we are moral beings, we are perfectly able to distinguish between good and evil, we are the only creature on earth created with a conscience.
In the Bible we on multiple places read about His emotions, love, anger, joy, sadness, sarcasm, occasionally even humor. And why not? It's the kind of communication we understand.
Following your profile (agnostic) you sound like an ex Christian, I hope you will find your way back. In the words of Jesus Himself in Luke 15:11-32, God the Father is waiting for you with His arms spread wide open.
