Jesus said Matthew 5:13 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour,(G3471) wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

When the salt loses its savour it becomes foolish. Notice the word usage in the phrase “lose savour” is also show as “become a fool”, and to “make foolish” (G3471)

The KJV translates Strongs G3471 in the following manner: lose savour (2x), become a fool (1x), make foolish (1x).
And this is what happens when people listen to “fools” or the “foolish” doctrine of carnally minded men.

Romans 1:22 “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,(G3471)

1 Corinthians 1:20 “Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish (G3471) the wisdom of this world?

So now you know the difference between the 5 foolish virgins who had no oil,(Holy Spirit) and the 5 wise virgins who had the anointing oil of the Holy Spirit to lighten their lamps. And we also now know why Jesus said the foolish salt that had lost his savour would be cast out, and trodden under foot of men.

Jeremiah 12:10Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

Could it be that you are wanting to make Matt 5:13 state more than it does. This is what Matt 5:13 (NLT) states, 'You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless'.

The issue is this. Christians who are supposed to be salty to prevent the world and worldly things from going bad. In the first century, salt was used as a preservative. The 'salt' deals with how Christians influence the world. To be salt deals with how we respond to those who persecute us (Matt 5:13 is a response to Matt 5:11-12 that deals with persecution).

Salt is a blessing, not when it is sprinkled over the meat (as in first century) but when it is rubbed into the meat. Then Matt 5:14 deals with the penetrating need for light to expose the darkness of the world around us.

May I suggest to you that Albert Mohler's new book, We Cannot Be Silent (2015 Nelson Books) is a very appropriate response as salt (and light) to the putred conditions in our world. The world needs our salt and light - now!

The point is, if the salt loses it's saltiness it is good for nothing but to be cast out. In the same way if a light goes out you cannot see in the dark.
This is what happened to the five foolish virgins when they had no oil (Holy Spirit) to light their lamps. Notice the word used....

And G1161 the foolish G3474 said G2036 unto the wise, G5429 Give G1325 us G2254 of G1537 your G5216 oil; G1637 for G3754 our G2257 lamps G2985 are gone out. G4570

Bible usage for that word gone out G4570 is to extinguish, quench

Same word used here..... "Quench G4570 not the Spirit."

I was just reading yesterday from Mark 9:49 and found it quite riveting..."salted with fire". From M L Andreasen's book "The Sanctuary Service" comes the following....
Sanctified by the Spirit
The flour used in the meal offerings was not to be offered dry; it was to be mingled with oil, or anointed with oil. (Leviticus 2:4,5) The oil is the Spirit of God. Only as a life is sanctified by the Spirit, mixed with it, anointed with it, can it be pleasing to God. Suffering, in and of itself, may not be a blessing. It may only lead to hardness of heart, bitterness of spirit. But as God's Spirit takes possession of the soul, as the sweet spirit of the Master permeates the life, the fragrance of a dedicated life becomes pure.
As the incense offered each morning and evening in the holy place was emblematic of the righteousness of Christ which ascended with the prayers of the priest for the nation as a. sweet savor unto God. So the incense offered in connection with each meal offering was efficacious for the individual. It was making a personal application of that which otherwise was only general. In the morning and evening sacrifice the priest prayed for the people. In the meal offering the incense was applied to the individual soul.
In the minds of the Israelites, incense and prayer were closely associated. Morning and evening, as the incense-symbolizing Christ's merits and intercession ascended in the holy place, prayers were offered throughout the nation. Not only did the incense permeate the holy and the most holy place, but its fragrance was noted far around the tabernacle. Everywhere it bespoke prayer and called men to communion with God.
Prayer is vital to Christianity. It is the breath of the soul. It is the vital element in every activity of life. It must accompany every sacrifice, make fragrant every offering. It is not only an important ingredient of Christianity, it is the very life of it. Without its vital breath, life soon ceases; and with the cessation of life, decomposition sets in, and that which should be a savor of life unto life becomes a savor of death unto death.
“Every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.” Mark 9:49. Fire purifies; salt preserves. To be salted with fire means not only purification but preservation. God wants a clean people, a people whose sins are forgiven. It is not enough to be forgiven and cleansed. The keeping power of God must be accepted. We must be kept clean. The fire is to be not a destructive fire but a cleansing one. We are to be first cleansed, then kept.
“Salted with fire” “Salted with salt”! Purified and kept pure! Wonderful provision!
The meal offering, though not the most important one, has beautiful lessons for the devout soul. All we are should be on the altar. All we have belongs to God. And God will purify and keep His own. May these lessons abide with us.

I don't know what point you are trying to make with these Strong's Concordance references. We are discussing the ability of salt to be a preservative metaphorically when Christians are just that in our world.

I can't see any connection with the wise and foolish virgins, based on Matt 5:10-14.

I believe the verse which uses the salt metaphor should be read in the immediate context. In the preceding "Beatitudes", Jesus was teaching about how a believer should act in different circumstances as a demonstration to the world of the ways of the Kingdom of God.

Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (The poor in spirit are totally dependent on God.)
Mat 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Those who mourn for their sins shall be forgiven.)
Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. (The meek are content with honor or dishonor; they're not self-seeking.)
Mat 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (Those who seek God will find God.)
Mat 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. (If you want to receive mercy at the Judgment, be merciful now.)
Mat 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Those who are completely devoted to worship and service of God will spend eternity in His love.)
Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Jesus came to reconcile man to God, do the same.)
Mat 5:10-12 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (If you do God's will, God's enemies will hate you and persecute you.)

The salt metaphor introduces the conclusion of that teaching.

The conclusion is: Mat 5:13-16 (NSB) “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

The Church is the manifestation of the presence of the Kingdom of God on earth. How we, as believers, demonstrate our commitment to serving God, how we act, will determine what unbelievers will conclude about us, Christianity, and Jesus Christ. We are the Bible that they will read and what they see will lead them to believe in Jesus Christ or to conclude that Christianity is a scam.

Anyway, that's how I see it.
