Just thinking here as I am listening to old Christian songs that will never get old for me :) There are the old hymns such as How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace, Come Thou Fount etc. My church play these and more. They play contemporary music as well. And, I am finding I am really liking a lot of these songs. They are done skillfully and reverently.
Now, back in the 1990's, I did not care at all for the contemporary songs. It was 1992 that I first heard anything other than the hymns and the contemporary music I didn't like...loved the hymns, not the other new stuff though. It was just before I became a child of God when a friend of a friend introduced me to what was then called Jesus Music. I cannot, even to this day say that they EVER get old. They are just as much "keepers" as the older hymns are.

I see the 1960's-70's as a good and evil battle for souls. OTOH, you have the homeless, drunk, crime ridden, violent drugged up and psychedelic music folks would "drop" acid and do other mind altering drugs.
Then, you have what was called The Jesus Movement, now, this is hardly ever spoken about. If one were to give it an honest look see...not a scan only but an honest effort to really look at the "Hippy Movement" then you need to look at all aspects. I do not have numbers in front of me but I sure do have videos of droves and droves, thousands of the lost, filthy, drunken, homeless "hippies" coming to Jesus Christ our King...So, it seems to me that era was total spiritual warfare and everybody who looked like a hippie, must do all those horrible things. Check out Keith Green. I know probably nobody will and that is okay. They were just lost people getting saved by the many thousands and thousands by other Holy Spirit filled people who had allot of the same fashion within that culture.
Yeah-I think God won that battle, not the lawless...however they looked or dressed. So, does anybody else kind of see the spiritual battle that went on back then? satan did not like that Jesus Movement one bit.

Is there a apostasy to come? Where almost all turn far away from God?

I think this apostasy will concern the Tribulation Saints, not certain. Most will turn away as the bible says the there are few who take that narrow road, many who take the wide.

It doesn't look that way when the whole world is viewed. Although much of America is denying God and turning more to the socialistic Democrat Party, in many other parts of the world Christ is becoming more and more predominate.

That makes sense for a revival to happen in parts of the world where certain countries kept the Gospel from reaching it's people.

Um...what? "drunk, crime ridden, violent..."
I was there from CA to NY to CO to FL, to Nova Scotia,PEI... listening to Joni and watching the Eclipse... on mountains and beaches, in cities and on campus, (UB, Nancy, when you were 11.)
..drugged up generation, yup ...but, the 3 above,
never saw it, we were the peaceful Woodstock generation,(my ride filled up, left without us, too bad
we had the money!
They must have been high and used bad judgment! LOL!)
But, geeze, one x in '72 in Key West, someone went in a drawer and took
some hash...idiot with no money...couldn't help himself...so what.

Well said! concerning the rest of the world, being under some form of anarchy, rulers with a strangle hold on the people, Yes it would be understandable for them to look toward the Christ for comfort! Kinda like being at the bottom of that Pit, left with only being able to look UP, I believe that every person on this planet have been given a measure of faith in God, just have to find the ONE TRUE GOD! I also believe the Harvest is Ripe in these days!

Just trying to seperate the two mo"hippy" movements...my best friend during Woodstock had an older bro, he and his g/f went to Woodstock...I've been into the 60's music from an early age on, still love it. I cannot get anybody to watch an awesome video all about Keith Green...he came out of the drug scene and became crazy saved..he and wife took in many of the homeless, single mothers, poor and destitute, penniless drug users...the lost. I suppose we all have our own view of these things...I might not have lived it (kinda did tho) but I sure can read. I did say, I think-IMO-about the two different sides of the 60-70's movement---I now see it as 2 sides warring-one was the Jesus movement (yes-hippies) and the other were also considered hippies but, were lost. Bottom line, many were saved. I am a hippie at heart and always wanted to live in the Height-ashbury district back then...11/12 yrs old...or not.
Also, drugs DO lead to violence and crime as it always did and will, IMO. Not speaking of ALL in that generation/but a handful-and as humans will do, put 'em all in the same box. I LOVED that era, I know I do not have great articulation, must be all those drugs and alcohol...Ahahaha-true tho  Not talking Gange :) here-I see nothing wrong with that...different people, places, views....different outcomes. I am happy that you were part of the loving sect of that time.
God Bless

Before being saved in the 70s at 24, I was involved in the surfing scene in the late 50s and 60s. There was an undeclared war in those days between surfers and bikers , and fights were frequent, particularly in the local pubs and concerts. But when marijuana became popular with both groups, the fighting stopped. Just sayin.

I went to a Jesus Festival in Pennsylvania in the early '70's. I can't remember the year, I was struggling at the time. I saw Keith Green and Larry Norman live, bought their albums and had them each signed. Keith would make the piano shake. Never lend an album to a Christian, you will never see it again. Anyway, some favorite moldie oldies:

Can ya dig it?

Picture it...

Kids grouping together wandering about;
No job,
No place to call home,
Clothes on their back,
No stock of food,
Singing....
Come on people...come together...
Love one another...
Give peace a chance...
War, What is it good For...

And the Parents saying...yikes...
Bad, Bad, Bad....the Drugs "did this To our children".... Government...Fix This Problem!!!

Oh of course the Govt responds to the Parents....
The Govt to the Parents (and All others Who "work". ) It's a "CRISIS"... send "us" money, money, money.... "your money in the hands of the Govt can FIX anything.

Need Proof?

40 years Later..."problem Solved"!
And the Working people are keeping their money and taking care of themselves.

Can I Get an Amen?

:D

Yes, you can get an AMEN! Many of the younger people here may not get a word of that, but to us older ones, it was well-spoken and right on target.

Awesome stuff!!! I can't get enough of these old songs...well old to SOME of us, hahaha....Yes, Keith looked like he was ripping that ivory right off the piano...that is why he always recorded with just hi and the piano...he never managed to be able to just record with the music in the background. Awesome story, his. Next to Jesus Christ, Keith's music and story have inspired my walk more than any other. God blessed his ministry hugely, and it still goes on today! Awesome.

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing is my fav song.

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter
bind my wondering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, O take and seal it
seal it for Thy courts above
