Concerning more than one 'earthquake' towards the end of this world, there is... an earthquake event linked to the coming of the false messiah and his hosts for the tribulation event, prior to Christ's return.
This might throw some, but here it is:
Rev 6:12-13
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
Joel 2:30-31
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
(KJV)
In Joel 2 we're shown those Rev.6:12 signs of the sun turning to darkness and the moon into blood occurs just prior to the "day of the Lord" event (Christ's coming, our gathering to Him, and end of this world).
Jesus returns on the 7th Trumpet per Rev.11, but these above events occur just prior to that per Joel 2:31-32. Those above Rev.6:12-13 verses are still... pointing to the time of the 6th Trumpet - 2nd Woe period of Rev.11, a point when Jesus has not returned yet per the prophecy.
So just how much... time prior to Christ's return on "the day of the Lord" are those Rev.6:12-13 verses pointing to, that's the question?
Then notice the events following those Rev.6:12-13 verses are events about the time of Christ's coming and reign... which are linked to events of the 7th Trumpet - 3rd Woe period and last 7th Vial with the battle of Armageddon.
Rev.6:14-17
6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him That sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb":
17 For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
(KJV)
The chief ones of the earth are then struck with fear, and will seek to hide on that day because they will at that point see Christ Jesus with His wrath getting ready to come upon them (see also Isaiah 2:10; Isaiah 2:19; Luke 23:29-30; Hosea 10:8).
This means we might want to take a closer look at the Rev.6:12-13 events, and see what Message is contained.
Rev 6:12-13
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
(KJV)
Our Lord often uses agricultural terms to teach us Messages with, so we should take note of this one above.
What is an "untimely fig"?
That's about what's called a 'winter fig'. There's two seasons for a fig (usually in the Meditteranean), the good tasting fig in May to June, and then the winter fig in December to January. (There were two main types, the Smyrna fig, a sweet fig, and the Caprifig bitter fig, or "goat" fig sometimes called because its a wild fig). See botany of the fig at: http://www.hort.purd...morton/fig.html
The idea of an "untimely fig" is that it grows in the winter and then falls off before spring time, thus it's an 'early' fig.
Our Lord Jesus linked that winter fig that's untimely or early with the event of the stars of heaven falling to earth. So what's He pointing to with that part? In Rev.12:4, we're shown how the dragon drew a third of the stars and cast them down to the earth. That was about Satan original rebellion of old, before the beginning of this world. Later in that same Rev.12 chapter, we're shown of a war in Heaven between Michael and his angels vs. Satan and his angels, and then Satan and and his angels are cast down to the earth, and those on earth are warned with woes. This suggests our Lord Jesus was using the "untimely figs" idea to represent Satan and his angels being cast down from Heaven to the earth, i.e., stars of heaven falling to the earth.
In contrast with this untimely fig idea, our Heavenly Father related to it back in Isaiah also, with a warning to Ephraim, the head of the ten tribes of Israel:
Isa 28:1-4
1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!
2 Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
That's about God rebuking the drunkards of Ephraim, whose beauty is like a fading flower. God says He has "a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand." Who is that? Our Lord gave us clue in Rev.12 also...
Rev 12:15
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
(KJV)
Those waters AS a flood out of the dragon's mouth after the woman is also what the Isaiah 28 Scripture idea is about (see also Isaiah 8 about the Assyrian, at times used as moniker for Satan in the OT).
Isaiah 28:3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:
4 And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.
(KJV)
There's this same "untimely figs" idea in God's Message to Ephraim. There's it's simply referred to as "hasty fruit before the summer". The idea about Ephraim there is that his situation will be like the hasty fruit before the summer because of what that "strong one" will do which God is bringing upon him. Even when Ephraim looks at the hasty fruit in his hand, it's going to be eaten it up out of his hand right in front of him. Thus God also applies this "untimely figs" warning to His people represented by Ephraim (head of the ten tribes after Solomon's days - 1 Kings 11 forward).
Did you notice there's a "great earthquake" associated with that event of the "untimely figs" falling to the earth?
OK, no more mystery - what all this is pointing to is the idea of the coming false worship of a false messiah prior to the coming of our Lord Jesus. The "untimely figs" metaphor is pointing to the casting out of the "dragon" to this earth for the coming tribulation time, like an early unripe fig before its true season. And those who fall away to that dragon will be like Ephraim with the "hasty fruit before summer". It means to have wrongly bowed in false worship to the coming false messiah, thinking he's the coming of our Lord Jesus. An earthquake happening along with event reveals the dragon's attempt to mimic the time of Christ's coming, since there's to be a truly great earthquake with the timing of our Lord Jesus' coming to end this world.
