As with every new invention one can do good and bad with it. Planes were a nice invention. Till evil persons thought, wait a minute, you can also throw bombs with it. The cat was out of the bag and you can't put it back.

So it is and will be with AI.

ProDeo, I want to see the potential good that AI can do, but I do not see it outweighing the damage it is doing already. You are right, there are uses good and bad for these things, but often the bad outdoes the good, even in potentiality.

well, seeing I don't drive anymore. not any. They take a picture of your licence plate when you go through a toll booth on bridges in most states. I remember when that came into play. They would capture your licence plate and send you a fine in the mail. That was over 15 years ago or more.
I don't like it either. Privacy is important for a free society.
China does that in it's country, this isn't China... yet.

I don't thin it's so much government as it is the Banks themselves. Or other entities.
What I mean by that is,
usually I have my dad's prescriptions delivered by the pharmacy. I have my credit card on record so they can bill me for the door dash and now there is a $5, charge per prescription. I don't care about any of that.
But now they tell me, the Corporation changed their rules and they are not able to keep cc info in their records and the prescriptions need to be picked up in person.
I don't leave the house, so I have to find someone to pick them up and give them cash.
I don't care about the cash. I care about the delivery.
Lot of things are changing.
Maybe I think it's Osco Drug that decided it's better for the customer not to have their cc accessed by people working in the pharmacies.
It may be an inconvenience, but my cc is also my bank card. SO if they get that, well, not a good idea.
I do all my banking online. Pay all my bills online.
I'm sure I'm not the only one.

well, today it is AI. yesterday it was being able to read and write, and before that it was the creation of communication itself.
How do we keep our enemies from knowing what we are doing?
Well, we could create morse code until they learn to crack it.
How do we keep people from reading the bible for themselves?
We will have it in Latin and read it for them.
There is and always has been a control of some sort on being able to retain information. We write books.
Those books turned into libraries. The libraries were archived and put on some kind of imaging.
Imaging turned to data. Now we need data centers to hold all the information and be able to retrieve anything in a moments notice or a click of the button.

They call it progress. I call it lazy but in some cases necessary because we should always have a way to remember our past and our mistakes and how we learned from them and always press forward.

I think one of the things AI will be good for is the medical industry. Gathering information to come up with the best diagnosis or to develop new machines and technologies to find cures.
Agriculture and what works best in what soil and learning new techniques like hydro.
It wasn't that long ago man came up with greenhouses to grow their food eliminating a lot of pests and bad weather.

Well I guess it was a while ago, but inventions are made everyday. I just think in some cases AI will help invent faster, reliability, efficiently.

The earliest known greenhouse was created in ancient Rome around 30 AD by Emperor Tiberius to grow cucumbers year-round.​

That's only 2000 years ago. We been here a lot longer than that.

I just read where if you have a new car....the AI program will pull your car over for you if it doesn't like the way you're driving.

We're in an AI arms race, and AI data centers are a double-edged sword. On one hand, they require a lot of resources, and AI can be used for nefarious purposes. On the other hand, if we don't develop AI, other countries, like China, will dominate us. But for the first time in history, we have the ability to track and monitor every person on the planet 24/7. That's an awful lot of power, and the temptation to misuse it is great. Ultimately, I think AI will be part of the beast system.

AI will invent things, propel technology thousands of years of advancement in hours. It can come up with its own questions and expand upon the significance of the answers and query the possibility of how it effects reality.

So, basically a god, and people will start treating it as a replacement god. Some people actually want that, and that is the danger. There is also the concern we could become too dependent on AI. We could basically become like the Eloi in The Time Machine. We're going into uncharted territory here, and there are legitimate concerns where this technology could lead us.

The concern that these supercomputers could become "self-aware" is an inevitability.

How would we truly know if it were self-aware? Consciousness is subjective by nature. But I think it could get to the point where it would be impossible to distinguish from simulated self-awareness or actual self-awareness.

The question is.....will it think it can rule better than we can? And the answer is....Yes. So will it try? Rule better than us? History proves we are horrible at it.

Even if it could do a better job, what would be the cost? We could become entirely dependent on it. Or it could decide it doesn't need us anymore, or worse yet, it would be better off if humans didn't exist. We're dealing with the rule of unintended consequences here.

But in the meantime we need to work as hard to know how to control it, as to develop it, before it controls us.

Good luck with that. There's no way to keep that genie in the bottle.
