What Is Sound Doctrine?
ὑγιαινούσῃ (hygiainousē) Verb – Present Participle Active – Dative Feminine Singular Strong’s 5198: From hugies; to be in sound health, to be well; figuratively, to be uncorrupt.διδασκαλίᾳ (didaskalia) Noun – Dative Feminine Singular Strong’s 1319: Instruction, teaching. From didaskalos; instruction.
So when we speak of “sound doctrine,” we’re talking about uncorrupt instruction—teaching that is whole, healthy, and true.
Some say:
Others say:“You must believe Jesus is coming back today.” I have no qualms. That’s sound teaching—as they see it.
So what’s the issue? People will always wrestle with teachings that challenge their framework. But the real question is: What is sound doctrine in the first place?“Jesus already returned, and we now live in the new heavens and new earth.” People have qualms. That’s not sound teaching—according to some.
The Apostolic Record on Jesus’ Return
Jesus spoke often of His return. Let’s look at a few passages:Matthew 24:30
Luke 21:25–28“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.”
Mark 13:26“There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars… distress of nations… men’s hearts failing them from fear… Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory… Look up, for your redemption draws near.”
“At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.”
But Then Jesus Says Something Else…
Matthew 24:34Mark 13:30“Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.”
Luke 21:32“Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.”
Three witnesses. One message. Jesus said that generation would see these things.“Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.”
So now we ask: Was this all supposed to happen in the distant future? Or in the generation He was speaking to?
Revelation’s Urgency
Revelation 22:10Revelation 22:20“Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near.”
Revelation 1:1–3“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’”
Revelation 16:15“The revelation from Jesus Christ… to show his servants what must soon take place… Blessed is the one who reads aloud… and takes to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”
Revelation 19:7“Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake…”
“Let us rejoice and be glad… For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.”
So What Are We Saying?
With just a little gathering, searching, and reading, it becomes clear: Yeshua was coming—and He said it would be soon. Especially as the Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord approached that generation. Now, some will say:
But I wouldn’t be so quick to label someone like that.“You’re crazy.” “You’re not following sound doctrine.” “You need to be corrected.” “You’re a false teacher.” “You’re a devil.”
I’m not here to stir up division. I’m just sharing the text. Inviting you to consider what sound doctrine really is. To look again at what Jesus said—and who He said it to.
What is the value of reading this for oneself?
