Grace is involved in being saved, but we're saved by our faith.
Of course I believe in grace.
GOD IS GRACE.
GOD IS LOVE.
GOD IS JUST.

We want to forget the JUST part.
Have you helped anybody out lately?
Maybe a neighbor...
Have you prayed for anyone?
Have you been quiet rather than speak and upset your wife?
These are all works.
Did you do them to get saved?
Ephesians 2:8a;
"For it is by grace you have been saved...".

Substitute wife for any other person.
Many times we're quiet so as not to disturb someone...
Isn't this a work?
Isn't everything God would want us to do become a work when we do it?

You're hung up on works, aren't you?
You don't know which way to go, do you?
Start with the fact that we are saved by grace and try to understand what that means before you go forward.

I'm not hung up on works.
I don't spend my day wondering what work I could do next.

Here's what I'm hung up on:
Other Christians telling me:

1. Works are not necessary.
2. We don't have to obey God.
3. We don't have to confess our sins.
4. God is insulted if we try to do works.
5. Faith is all we need. No other action necessary.
6. The law has been abolished

I think that's enough.
I don't even understand how there could be any debate over this.
Works are a SIGN of our salvation,
if we don't do any works, we're most probably NOT saved.
As per Jesus.

Oh. And HE said we will be judged by our works, not me.

Acts 15:11;
"No! We believe it is through our grace in Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are".
Are you talkin' ta me?

Read John 5:28-29 and tell me what it means.
It's JESUS talking, not one of the writers.

See.
This is what I mean.
A new Christian is reading along and he get the DEFINITE idea that he could sin all he wants to and still be saved.

Even though I KNOW YOU don't mean this.
Isn't this a problem to you?

Of course we're saved by grace and not works.
So answer me this:

Do I have to obey God?

There you go again, talking up a salvation by works tree.
Was Jesus full of grace and truth or full of faith?
John 1:4;
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, glory of the one and only son, full of grace and truth".

You have to understand the Word of God if you are to do anything pleasing to Him.

Yeah.
He was full of grace and truth.
We're His disciples, which mean we're to follow Him.
So WE also are supposed to be full of grace and truth.
That means doing nice things and not sinning and not doing works.

What's the word of God????
I know persons who have never read a bible and understand what we're talking about here more than some who have the bible coming out of their ears.
I know someone who's been going on for over 2,000 pages about how we're not required to do anything. Nice, right?

Yes. But this isn't where I was headed.
I know. However, "belief" alone isn't enough if it is not accompanied by "action" as you describe below. Real "faith" imo is belief coupled with action. That is faith.

Belief or action without being accompanied by the other is worthless.

So, here's how it is...
I say it's necessary to obey God and do the works we are to do.

Concur. Which raises questions as to exactly what the "works" or "actions" entail.

Even you and I, while on the surface we concur here, there is a vast gulf between us at the core. That is not to pick on you, or even to imply that you are wrong. You are upon a path, you must go as you are led. You are not my servant, who am I to judge. I just enjoy asking questions now and then.

To be honest, I look forward to seeing where you are upon your path in a few years.

I'm told the law is abolished and works are not necessary because we are now under grace and not the law.

Have you ever noticed how oft Eph 2:8-9 is quoted, but v10 is left out.

So I ask for a verse that says we are no longer required to do any works. Why do I ask? Because I know none exists that JESUS said, which is what I ask for since I'm a disciple of Jesus and not anyone else.

Indubitably, as you should be.

<small snip>

So as you can see, the word BELIEVE becomes very important.
I will not accept that verse because those posting it do not know what BELIEVE means or they would not post it.

So, here's what it means:

  1. Believe means

    trust the person
    learn from the person
    obey the person
    agree with the person
    do what the person teaches
    use them as an example
    follow them in all ways

If I believe in Jesus, then I MUST DO EVERYTHING HE SAID TO DO. I must obey and do His works. Whatever they may be.
Thus, as stated above, it is belief coupled with action, and thus your faith is made complete. James 2.
