This is repentance. But in our current state, we cannot fully and perfectly repent. So we pray continually… again, should, anyway… that the Spirit would lead us to a deep and lasting repentance.

Seems like Paul struggled, maybe felt guilty as (you mentioned guilt), for still having his flesh body. I don’t. And I don’t begrudge Paul’s feelings about his flesh, or anyone else.

It's quite simple really.
Jesus loved the Father with all his heart, mind and soul, and taught us through his words and actions which gave us proof.
Jesus loved his neigbors even until the end when he asked for those who killed him to be forgiven.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

And that is why he came into the world.
To fulfill the law.

John is delivering a message to those who have not heard.
He is saying to the unconverted, unsaved, unreconciled...
If you say you have no sin...
If you say you don't need Jesus.
If you say you have Abraham to your Father...

These are those that John is speaking to in 1 John.

He is preaching the Gospel to those who have not heard the good news.

John is preaching the Gospel to those who are walking in darkness, not those who are walking in the light.
Because those who walk in the light are already cleansed from all sin.
And what is that sin?

This is exactly what Jesus was saying to the Jews who believed they had no sin. It is the same message to the same people.

John was an appointed teacher to Jews.
Many Jews were still following Mosaic Law.
According to mosaic Law… Commission of Sin… was Unbelief, AND violation of Mosaic Law.

I think it would be more in line with Jewish thought to say that "Sin" is a violation of their covenant relationship with God. "Unfaithfulness" would be a better word than "unbelief" because it carries the same sense of covenant violation.

With the 1 John 3 passage under consideration, I would say that John views "Sin" more as a violation of our identity as Children of God.

I can see some overlap in those two worldviews, covenant relationship versus identity, but they're not quite the same.

God's command is eternal life for all who believe.

How do you feel about sin when you read this entire chapter in regard to all of the above verses...
The devil and those who are of the devil sin, they refuse God, refuse His command to repent and believe in His Son.
They transgress His law and rule in their life, they will not have this man Christ to rule over them. They rebel.

The Parable of the Minas and the result is death

Such sinners shall never be forgiven, but those who are of God, believe unto the saving of the soul. They do what God commands, and are not disobedient to the message of the gospel to believe in His Son.

What is the sin that causes eternal death?
The sin of unbelief.
Believers do not commit that sin, they sin not unto death.
In God's new covenant, the commandments which caused transgression of the law, are no longer in effect, that covenant has passed away, our transgressions in violation of that first covenant law were paid for by the blood of Christ shed for us who believe in Him.

We have a new covenant, a new high priest, a new law and a much better covenant and an eternal salvation for believers in Christ.

Need for a New Priesthood​

11 Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron? 12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law. 13 For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no man has [b]officiated at the altar.

14 For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning [c]priesthood. 15 And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest 16 who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. 17 For [d]He testifies:

“You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
18 For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, 19 for the law made nothing [e]perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

Greatness of the New Priest​

20 And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath 21 (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him:

“The Lord has sworn
And will not relent,
‘You are a priest [f]forever
According to the order of Melchizedek’ ”),
22 by so much more Jesus has become a [g]surety of a better covenant.

23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also able to save [h]to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, [i]harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.
