Problems with this hypothesis.
1. Putin invaded Ukraine without real provocation. Just a cry to root out neo-nazis.
2. why would far leftists like Obama and Biden and their cronies install an extreme right government.
3. almost every one in the world thought that when Russia invaded, the war would be over in about three weeks!
4. Doesn't seem like the biggest cold war crisis.

I think NATO giving membership to Croatia, albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia< Lithuania and romania count as far greater crises as all these were former soviet territories.
