Matthew 5:

22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ [G3474] will be liable to the hell of fire.
Matthew 23:

13a “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! 16“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17You blind fools! [G3474] For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred?
Jesus rightly labeled these scribes and Pharisees as G3474-fools.

There is another Greek word for "fool". Psalm 14:

1 The fool [G878] says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good.
Paul addressed the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 15:

36 You foolish person! [G878] What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
Using the word "fool" is not a sin. It is how you use it. It is your heart's attitude when you make the pronouncement. Unfortunately sometimes, brothers are too quick to speak insultingly against other brothers. Jesus warned against these unloving overusages.

Is anything accomplished by insulting people, other than to satisfy a desire to do so?
