Who are you talking to? (Matt. 1:17) says 'fourteen generations'.

Apparently you are not paying attention. There is a big difference in saying "from Abraham until David were 14 generations" and saying "Enoch also, the seventh from Adam". Go back to my post #64 and consider. Better yet, read the whole thread.

What Jude wrote at Jude 14, of Enoch being the "seventh in line from Adam" is accurate, for counting from Adam is: (1) Adam, (2) Seth, (3) Enosh, (4) Kenan, (5) Mahalalel, (6) Jared, (7) Enoch. I need say no more on this matter, except that Jesus said some will "strain out the gnat but gulp down the camel", finding fault with non-essentials while overlooking major implications.(Matt 23:24)

Where is Abel in your count? Remember we are not talking about lineage. Seventh from Adam means seventh from Adam. Where is Cain in your count? Or Cains descendants?

We are are indeed talking about lineage. Abel is not counted in the generational line or lineage, for Enoch was not born through his lineage. Rather, the generational line from Adam was followed by Seth, who fathered Enosh who fathered Kenan, who fathered Mahalalel, who fathered Jared, who fathered Enoch as the "seventh one in line from Adam".(Jude 14)

There is nothing to indicate lineage. Seventh from Adam means seventh from Adam. And the seventh from Adam was not Enoch. When you say seventh from Adam, you include all those from Adam. Abel also. Cain also. Why isn't Cain there? He is from Adam. You want to see the lineage you go to (Genesis 5).

You err in including Adam and in excluding Abel and Cain and his descendants. Because they all were from Adam.

What makes you think God cant do. God can do anything. Man and his misunderstanding of Fathers word is what you should ask. Enoch is as reported if you understand the word. I have a post in the Bible Study Forum - titled - Cain who was he ? This will further explain to you why Enoch is 7th.

Able died Cain is not in the genealogy of Adam. Simple.

(Jude 14) says Enoch is 7th from Adam. But he is not. What is the deal? Error, mistake, what? I know...spiritualize it. Make it say whatever you want.

I'm only taking a wild guess, but in scripture the Lord gives a lot of consideration to birth right and the title of "firstborn". Since there was a son of promise (the One who would crush the serpent's head) from the curse, the generations are considered as according to the son of promise (or they wouldn't even have listed them in the gospels.) In our translations of scripture, Isaac is referred to as Abraham's only son (in the passage about the command to offer Isaac up as a burnt offering). Yet, Abraham had other sons and daughters, with Ishmael being the first born. Ishmael however was not the son of promise (or of the messianic line.) I've also heard a message on the Messianic perspectives radio show that explained how the names listed in the genealogy of Adam through Noah (in the OT) tell a message when considering their meanings. The Lord has done some peculiar things in His word, but its purpose is primarily to reveal God in the person of His Son, and so God structured the Old testament scripture and history itself to reveal Christ before His birth.

Well, Enoch was not the 7th from Adam. Cain and all his descendant's were from Adam. Cain most certainly is in the genealogy of Adam. And when it says 'from Adam', that means Adam is not counted.

Well take the time to count them, remember Joseph the husband of Mary can not be used, he had nothing to do with the conception of Jesus, also Joseph and Mary are of the same Generation

It doesn't matter if Joseph had nothing to do with the conception. There are still 14 generations from the carrying away into Babalylon to Christ.

Well! all do respect, is it fourteen Generations just because that is what is written in Matthew. Because it say"s so! Jesus was the, AS the Supposed Son of Joseph. Luke 3 verse 23, Even the Author of Luke knows that Joseph is not the Father of Jesus. do the work and count! this is easily solved! well I know for a fact that there is 14 generations, if you look at the genealogy in Luke you will see that there are many Josephs in their lineage, it doesn't add up with the Husband of Mary, that's all! As one could expect Joseph would be a common name because of Joseph in Egypt.

It is fourteen generations because it is fourteen generations. This statement in Matthew is not about proving the genealogy of Jesus Christ. It doesn't matter that Joseph is not the real father. It is still fourteen generations to that time.

Joseph wasn't the biological father, but he was the legal father, and a generation is a generation. Jesus had legal right to the throne of David through Joseph, and a blood line through Mary. Matthew's gospel was written to show Jesus as the messiah and rightful heir to David's throne.

OK there has been a manuscript of the book of Matthew discovered, Called the Shem Tov Hebrew Matthew! in the verses we have been looking at, IT says the Father of Mary!!! the father being 12th, Mary bring 13th, and Jesus the 14th, I never disputed the count!
