Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. Rom 11:22

Romans 11:19-23 KJV

(19) Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.

(20) Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

(21) For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

(22) Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

(23) And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again
(emphasis added)

God is not severe to me, because I believe Him to be ONLY good. it seems to me this is about continuing to believe in God's goodness; those who don't, but begin and continue to ascribe bad things to God (like calling a tornado an 'act of God'), can eventually cut themselves off from the source of ALL goodness (God) by their own choice to not believe God to be always, only good - this is truly severe - to cut one's self off from all goodness. God, being absolutely honorable, respects people's God-given choice - this would be severe to those who choose to permanently reject Him.

GLY!!!

I think God really is severe! He's not a respecter of persons and it applies to all... When sheep stray, one thing that shepherds can do is break their legs and carry them on their back, then when they are healed they do not stray anymore. I think it's the same with our Lord... Only in a far deeper way and it takes more than once... Atleast for me, others might be wiser! :D

I don't think it has to do with "believing" that God is good. God is not the 'placebo effect'! Just thinking real hard that God loves us alot does NOT make it happen.

I think it has to do with obedience. I'm sure Ananias and Saphira also believed God would be good to them... As a matter of fact, they believed he would be good to them so much that they thought they could betray him and live! But they died for their disobedience. It is a strong and scary warning; we must fear the Lord!

Jesus DID not preach this modern Gospel that says 'I love you no matter what'... He said "If you try to save your life, you will lose it"! Just doesn't sound like something Mr. Nice Guy would say ;)

Let us have grace whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: for our God is a consuming fire (Heb. 12:28-29)

Wow! Our God is a consuming fire!

Blessings

When God punishes as He often does, He is just and righteous. Many would say that makes Him evil. I say it makes Him right, always.

2 Samuel 12:15-19 (NKJV)
[sup]15 [/sup]Then Nathan departed to his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah's wife bore to David, and it became ill. [sup]16 [/sup]David therefore pleaded with God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. [sup]17 [/sup]So the elders of his house arose and went to him, to raise him up from the ground. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them. [sup]18 [/sup]Then on the seventh day it came to pass that the child died.
