It does refer to the fact that when Jesus cried thiis out, the full and complete payment for all of mankinds sins had been paid. there is no other poayment accepted. Paul spoke of this on the cross. It is not some ethereal battle.

Yes, but the point is the same: The war that some say is still yet to come, is over. To deny this, is to deny Jesus' complete victory...that all is not paid in full, but that there is still a battle ahead.
