(Psalm 147:12-14) Praise the Lord , O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion. For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee. He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

@Laish FYI: Do you have a favorite Psalm?
Well I guess my favorite is
Psalm 23 :1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. 6Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Yea pretty vanilla lol
I do have many others but that is my favorite. It’s very comforting.
I do love Psalm 119 . Don’t worry I won’t paste it here .
It’s cool it goes thru the Hebrew alphabet singing praise for God’s instruction to His people.
Blessings

Thank-you; yes, it's really useful to have those Hebrew letter sections in Psalm 119!

@tzcho2 : So do you have a favorite Psalm, Sir? :)
I have a few farouk.
But here's one that stirs my heart
Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth give way and
the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad The City of God,
the Holy Place Where The Most High dwells.
5 God is within her,
she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
He lifts His voice, and the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the LORD has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
He burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be Still, And Know That I AM GOD;
I will be Exalted among the nations,
I will be Exalted in the earth.”
11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
The GOD of Jacob IS Our Fortress!
Praise GOD Almighty forever, Amen!

Thanks, Sir! Psalm 46 is one of my favorites also!

Luther used it in writing 'A might fortress is our God'.

Ahh....I did not know that. "A mighty fortress " is one of my favorites also, say what you want of Luther , he was not a perfect man, but when I read those lyrics I knew Luther had the Truth revealed to him and that he battled against the cosmic forces of wickedness in high places & knew it. It will be an honor to meet him one day.

I like what Luther said to Melanchthon: "Always preach in such a way that, if the hearers do not come to hate their own sin, they will hate you instead".

These old preachers who preached the Word rigorously really took their task seriously before the Lord. (Yes, Luther also said some strange things sometimes.)

That is a great quote-thanks! Yes they were a blessed bunch of God-fearing men. Men who feared God & didn't worry about being despised of men.

Hi @farouk,

I looked through the thread to find out just what Psalms had been referred to, and by whom:
and although some are the obvious favourites of many; there have been references to many more, namely:-

1, 2, 3, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 23, 27, 30, 33, 39, 35, 37,
40, 41, 46, 48,50, 51, 56, 62, 68, 73, 77, 79, 86, 89,

(Re: #217, #219, #220)

Hi @farouk,

* A Psalm of David, which is a prayer in the light of Psalm 2: 'Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?:-

'Hear me when I call,
O God of my righteousness:
Thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress;
have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

O ye sons of men,
how long will ye turn My glory into shame?
how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing?
(= falsehood)
Selah. (connecting and contrasting his enemies' acts with his own sure defence)
But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly (or, a subject of grace) for Himself:
the LORD will hear when I call unto Him.

Stand in awe, and sin not:
commune with your own heart upon your bed,
and be still.
Selah. (connecting their sin with its being put away)
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, (or 'righteous sacrifices')
and put your trust in the LORD.
There be many that say, Who will shew us any good?
LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
.. Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
.... more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
...... I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep:
........ for Thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety."

(Psalm 4:1-8)

Praise God!

* Man knows 'gladness of heart' when 'their corn and their wine' increases: however, the source of David's 'gladness of heart' was the Lord His God, and did not depend on outward circumstances, even in the face of the goading of his enemies, who said, 'Who will shew them any good'. For God had 'lifted up His countenance' upon David and all who, like Him, were the subjects of God's grace.

Praise His Holy Name!

:-
Rebellious Man - Psalm 2
(1) Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
(2) The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
(3) Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
(4) He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
(5) Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
(6) Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
(7) I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
(8) Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
(9) Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
(10) Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
(11) Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
(12) Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

* Yes, remarkable indeed, @farouk,
'This day have I begotton Thee,' referring to Christ's resurrection.

In Acts 13, the context makes clear a reference to the Resurrection in 'this day have I begotten Thee'.
