    PS: There is also the Hebrews 1 passage which contains this phrase. It links in with Paul's and John's use of 'first begotten' and 'only begotten' in their different contexts, whether of preeminence or uniqueness.

    Psalm 98:

    O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.

    2 The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.

    3 He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

    4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

    5 Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

    6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.

    7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

    8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together

    9 Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.

    * One of Hezekiah's 'songs' mentioned in Isaiah 38:20

    'God is our refuge and strength,
    .. a very present help in trouble.
    .... Therefore will not we fear,
    ...... though the earth be removed,
    ........ and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
    .......... Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,
    ............ though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

    Selah. (contrasting the roaring of the waters without, with the silent flowing river in the rock cut channel beneath Zion,
    and the boastings of the enemy with the secret purposes of God.) - ref: Bible marginal notes
    ............ There is a river, - (see also Revelation 22:1-2 - another river to be found in the New Jerusalem)
    .......... the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God,
    ........ the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
    ...... God is in the midst of her;
    .... she shall not be moved:
    .. God shall help her,
    and that right early.
    .. The heathen raged,
    (Psa. 2:1)
    .... the kingdoms were moved:
    ...... He uttered His voice,
    ........ the earth melted.
    .......... The LORD of hosts is with us;
    ............ the God of Jacob is our refuge.

    Selah. (connecting this assured confidence in God's promise with it's fulfilment in the deliverance of Zion from Sennacherib
    ............ Come, behold the works of the LORD,
    .......... what desolations He hath made in the earth.
    ........ He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth;
    ...... He breaketh the bow,
    .... and cutteth the spear in sunder;
    .. He burneth the chariot in the fire.

    Be still, (or, cease your efforts) and know that I am God:
    .. I will be exalted among the heathen,
    .... I will be exalted in the earth.
    The LORD of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our refuge.

    Selah. (connecting psalm 46 with psalm 47 and 48, all these referring to the same event)
    (Psalm 46:1-11)

    'O clap your hands, all ye people;
    shout unto God with the voice of triumph.'

    (Psalm 47:1)

    'Great is the Lord,
    and greatly to be praised
    In the city of our God,
    in the mountain of His Holiness.'

    (Psalm 48:1)

    Praise God!

    * Thank you Nancy :)
    * How we need to cease our efforts, and be still before our God.

    Hello again, @farouk,

    Isaiah 38:4-20
    'Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah,
    "Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father,
    ..
    I have heard thy prayer,
    .... I have seen thy tears:
    ...... behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
    ........ And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria:
    .......... and I will defend this city."

    And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD,
    .. that the LORD will do this thing that He hath spoken;
    ....
    "Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees,
    ...... which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward."
    ........ So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.
    The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah,
    when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:

    "I said in the cutting off of my days,
    ..I shall go to the gates of the grave:
    .... I am deprived of the residue of my years.
    ...... I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living:
    ........ I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
    .......... Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent:
    ........... I have cut off like a weaver my life:
    .............. He will cut me off with pining sickness:
    ................ from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
    .................. I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will He break all my bones:
    .................... from day even to night wilt Thou make an end of me.
    ...................... Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter:
    ........................ I did mourn as a dove:
    .......................... mine eyes fail with looking upward: "

    ............................ "O LORD, I am oppressed; undertake for me."
    What shall I say?
    .. He hath both spoken unto me,
    .... and Himself hath done it:
    ...... I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

    "O Lord, by these things men live,
    .. and in all these things is the life of my spirit:
    .... so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.
    ...... Behold, for peace I had great bitterness:
    ........ but Thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption:
    .......... for Thou hast cast all my sins behind Thy back.
    For the grave cannot praise thee,
    .. death can not celebrate thee:
    .... they that go down into the pit cannot hope for Thy truth.
    ...... The living, the living, He shall praise thee, as I do this day:
    ........ the father to the children shall make known Thy truth."

    The LORD was ready to save me:
    therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments
    all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.'

    Praise God!

    * Hezekiah's songs:
    * There were 15 songs of degrees in all, which mark the 15 years of further life which God granted Hezekiah: but
    Psalm 122, 124, 131 & 133 were written by David, and Psalm 127 by Solomon.

    * However, 10 Psalms were written by Hezekiah: - corresponding to the 10 degrees of the sundial, when the shadow of the sun went backwards, which was God's sign to him (2 Kings 20:9-11), that He would do what He promised:-
    Psalms 120, 121, 123, 125, 126, 128, 129, 130, 132 and 134.

    Praise His Holy Name!

    * A Psalm of David. (Psalm 29) - His people's praise of God's Glory in Creation (in view of Psalm 10)
    * Genesis 1:3 - 'And God said ... '

    'Give (or ascribe) unto the LORD, O ye mighty,
    .. give unto the LORD glory and strength.
    .... Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His N
    ame;
    ...... worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

    ........ The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: (Genesis 1:2)
    .......... the God of glory thundereth:
    the LORD is upon many waters.
    .. The voice of the LORD is powerful;
    .... the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
    ...... The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars;
    ........ yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
    .......... He maketh them also to skip like a calf;
    Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
    The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
    .. The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness;
    .... the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
    ...... The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve,
    ........ and discovereth the forests:
    .......... and in His temple doth every one speak of His glory.
    The LORD sitteth upon the flood;
    .. yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.
    .... The LORD will give strength unto His People;
    ...... the LORD will bless His people with peace.'

    * 'The God of Glory' - 'Glory' being a characteristic of God here.

    Praise His Holy Name!

    Psalm 10

    'Why
    standest Thou afar off, O LORD?
    Why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble?

    The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor:
    .. let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
    .... For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire,
    ...... and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.
    ........ The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God:
    .......... God is not in all his thoughts.
    His ways
    are always grievous;
    .. Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:
    .... as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
    ...... He hath said in his heart, "I shall not be moved":
    ........ for I shall never be in adversity.
    .......... His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud:
    ............ under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
    He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages:
    .. in the secret places doth he murder the innocent:
    .... his eyes are privily set against the poor.
    ...... He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den:
    ........ he lieth in wait to catch the poor:
    .......... he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.
    ............ He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
    .............. He hath said in his heart, "God hath forgotten: He hideth his face; He will never see it."
    Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
    .. Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? - he hath said in his heart, "Thou wilt not require it."
    .... Thou hast seen it; for Thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with Thy hand:
    ...... the poor committeth himself unto Thee;
    ........ Thou art the helper of the fatherless.
    .......... Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man:
    ............ seek out his wickedness till Thou find none.
    The LORD is King for ever and ever:
    .. the heathen are perished out of His land.
    .... LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble:
    ...... Thou wilt prepare their heart,
    ........ Thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
    .......... To judge the fatherless and the oppressed,
    ............ That the man of the earth may no more oppress.

    Hello @farouk,

    This Psalm makes me think of 'the man of sin' (2 Thessalonians 2:3)'. and the time of the great tribulation, especially as verse 16, 'The Lord is King for ever and ever' is quoted in Revelation 11:15. 'And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever."'

    * At that time there will be those for whom this psalm will have particular relevance I believe, and who will be comforted by it.

    In Christ Jesus
    Chris

    What a picture this psalm paints, doesn't it, @farouk?
    To me it shows the nature of the Anti-Christ,' the man of sin'.

    'Let no man deceive you by any means:
    .. for that day shall not come,
    .... except there come a falling away first,
    ...... and that man of sin be revealed,
    ........ the son of perdition;
    Who opposeth and exalteth himself

    .. above all that is called God,

    .... or that is worshipped;
    ...... so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God,
    ........ shewing himself that he is God.'

    (2 Thessalonians 2:3)

    * And reflects the nature of the one who empowers him, described in Ezekiel 28.

    * Interesting verse in Psalm 10:2:- 'let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.' Which causes me to think of another verse,
    'Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.' (Ecc 7:29)

    Hello again, @farouk,

    Sorry to make yet another entry on Psalm 10: but it is linked to Psalm 9 by the use of the word, 'Selah' at the end of Psalm 9:20, and you can see why when you read Psalm 9, for it concerns, 'the man of the earth', 'the lawless one'.

    'Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail:
    let the heathen be judged in Thy sight.
    Put them in fear, O LORD:
    that the nations may know themselves to be but men.'

    Selah.
    'Why standest Thou afar off, O LORD?
    why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble?
    The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor:
    let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.'

    (Psalm 9:19-20 & 10:1-2)

    Thank you for your patience
    In Christ Jesus
    Chris

    'O LORD our Lord,
    how excellent is Thy name in all the earth!
    Who hast set Thy glory above the heavens.
    Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings
    hast thou ordained strength
    because of thine enemies,
    that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
    When I consider Thy heavens,
    the work of Thy fingers,
    the moon and the stars,
    which Thou hast ordained;
    What is man, that Thou art mindful of him?
    and the son of man, that Thou visitest him?
    For Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels,
    and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
    Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands;
    Thou hast put all things under his feet:
    All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
    The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea,
    and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
    O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
    (Psalm 8:1-9)

    Praise His Holy Name!

    The implosion of the nations has indeed been going on for millennia. The Lord Jesus, rather, said: "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." (Luke 12.32)
