So what do you regard their saying “ Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?”.

It means those folks had themselves fooled into thinking they were saved by relying on their own works.

Yes, it is nonsense to suppose one cannot turn from God after turning to him.

And, no; no one deserves salvation. It is by grace we are saved. You confuse initiation with ongoing responsibility.

Let’s not start of with our reasoning. Read what Romans 11 says.

Paul started of saying in v. “I ask then: Did God reject his people?”. People collectively or individually? He goes on says in v.7 “What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,”. In v.11 he moves on to say “Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.” Collectively or individually? That’ right, collectively as a people.

Israel was in unbelief as a nation, for so as a nation they rejected Jesus Christ, even while they witnessed the many supernatural works of Jesus among them, the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. They as a people had rejected Him, Him who was sent to them by God, whom He promised to them to give, whom Moses had told them about.

That is a dangerous thing to do my friend . yes indeed . If one is trusting in their own merits to save them , they are justifying
themselves and going about it to earn righteousness . THEY have no submitted to the righteousness of GOD .
Which is Christ . For by the works of the law shall no man be justified in his sight .
Truth is paul was having a problem in some churches . They were going back into serving the law as a means to attain righteousness .
And thus they are fallen from grace . Whosoever you are that justify yourselves by the law , ye are fallen from grace
Christ shall be no profit to you . AND that IS SCARY . Cause it means they are lost .
Also we have some who would use the name of JESUS and yet justify their sins and say we have grace to do so .
YEt these have forgotten , or never knew , that grace does not make void the law , it establishes it .
An example . If one is proudly gay and justifying His sin and says HE believes in JESUS and that
the law is now void and we can do those things like man with man . THIS ONE is no follower of CHRIST .
For the law now being on our heart by the SPIRIT , we would not now call good what GOD has called evil .
I mean i used to call all sorts of things good that were evil . And still i could claim the gospel . YET i was lost
I Did not know Christ and i was not saved . BUT PRAISE BE TO GOD , FOR HE Sent TRUE GRACE
and drew me to the TRUE CHRIST and my heart was changed .

1 John 1:6 - If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. Walking in darkness is descriptive of children of the devil. Walking in the light is descriptive of children of God. Only those who are saved/believers are in the light.

Acts 26:18 - to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.

2 Corinthians 6:14 - Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

Ephesians 5:8 - for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light. Children of the devil walk in darkness, not in the light. Children of God walk in the light, not in darkness. IF confirms these positions in verses 6 and 7. It's one or the other.

In 1 John 2:9, we read - He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. In verse 11, we read - But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

*Compare with 1 John 3:10 - In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, (compare with 1 John 1:6 - does not practice the truth) nor is he who does not love his brother.

*Notice that "walks in darkness" and "hates his brother" is descriptive of "children of the devil."

Its what JESUS HIMSELF FIRST said . IF a man does not CONTINUE IN ME , HE is cast out .
Folks overlook something else .
Remember when JESUS was talking to his own apostles , he told them how many would be betrayed , delivered up
some killed . THEN HE says , BUT HE who ENDURES TO THE END THE SAME SHALL BE SAVED .
HE SAID IT TO HIS OWN DESCIPLES . I never heard them say , HEY LORD, what about ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED .
HE said the same thing to the churches in revelation .
Check this one out . Fear none of those things which you shall suffer
Behold the devil shall cast some of you into prison
so that you may be tried and you shall have tribulation ten days
Be thou faithful UNTO DEATH and i shall give you a crown of LIFE .
I never heard john say back , BUY HEY LORD what about once saved always saved .
it is about enduring faithful to Christ to the end . For we are made partakers of Christ if we hold
our confidence as we had at the first , FIRM to the end . Never heard paul say , WAIT i meant ONCE SAVED ALWAYS saved .
Folks are doing harm to people by allowing them to believe we dont even have to beleive to the end , that we dont have to be faithful to the end .
Its dangerous to teach such things .
