I like Michael Brown as well; one of the ones who came to mind as being both scholarly and Spirit-filled.

I might find it interesting if you were to discuss the Cessationist arguments with me, but that would be if you were into that kind of discussion right now.

Agreed. The Cessationist argument to that passage makes no sense. If "knowledge" in v.8 is a reference to partial Biblical/scriptural knowledge, and then in v.12 Paul says that after the perfect (i.e. Bible) has come, "then I will know even as I am known," what would he be referring to? The Bible will know him even as he knows the Bible? It's a senseless interpretation.
Here is another point. Look at these verses in 1 Corinthians 12:
"28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues."

Now notice that the Scripture says that God has placed all these gifts into the church. Cessationists tell us that Apostles, Prophets, gifts of healing, miracles, and different kinds of tongues have ceased. But teaching, guidance and helps remain. But does the Scripture say that? And if all the gifts have ceased, why not teaching, guidance and helps as well? The reality is that cessationists have carved up the Scripture, spat out what they don't want in today's church and kept what doesn't need anything more than man's wisdom to use. And these pelicans say they keep to Sola Scriptura?? Bah Phooey!!

LoL. Paul, your language is getting a little "colorful" these days, shall we say.

Everything ok? : )
Hahahaha! I get a bit steamed up when I realise how cessationists are locking out and robbing good believers of the power and blessing that God has for them. Martin Luther was worse in his language than me. He says that he dismisses those who oppose him with a fart!

I have always believed in the availability of the supernatural gifts, but have not been able to answer some of the cessationist accusations. Also, I have concentrated too much on the faults of the movement instead of the major positives.
I guess I misunderstood where you stood...especially after all the discussions we have had in the past.

Not up on my Latin, but I wonder if the true expression shouldn't actually be "Sola Aliqua Scriptura" (Only Some Scripture).

I think Martin Luther may have had a few "issues" as well, Lol.

Makes me feel a little better about myself, though. :)

My friend told me that it is rare to have a tongues interpreter these days. I wonder if it is something you study or it just pops in the head. Pastor's wife interpreted.
It's just a knowing....like it just comes to you without consideration...for some a few words come to them and when they open their mouth and begin to speak what they have the rest just flows....without any prior knowledge of what the Holy Spirit is intending to say.
It isn't that the language spoken was a native language that the interpreter knew....it is just that the Holy Spirit gave the interpretation through them.

It would be correct to say: nihil omnino Scripturas (no Scripture at all).
Or to sum up the cessationist position: summa quisquiliarum.

You come up for prayer requests.
I was praying for my teeth - I later got dentures - but people were coming for various things...
Being slain in the spirit is not really in the Bible - I think something like it is described when King Saul was prophesying
It’s found in the OT when a prophet wrote he fell down as if dead, etc, in Gods presence...

The bird laugh was wild.

A random thought - though many Cessationists do point to the completion of the New Testament as "the perfect", or the complete, mature - one Cessationist on a board said NO, the completion of the NT was NOT THE PERFECT. It was unclear what he thought it was - but he thought it had come.

This Mayhue character that Paul C. responded to ADDS OTHER GIFTS to "tongues, prophecy and knowledge" - the only three gifts subject to "cease".

Curtis - I conceded that slain in the spirit is in the Bible - men fell back when arresting Jesus. yes, prophet falls as dead

BTW I am Grunt Hemlock - due to a technicality - I had to re-register and simply used the username of HEMLOCK.

So what is it for? Why DO you fall backwards? This is one of those I don't know scripture for or understand too well. I don't want to shrug it off though as false. I just want to understand it more first. See scriptures for it.

LOL. Well, your prayer was answered. Actual teeth would really be a miracle for sure. @Mark Balicki had a testimony of someone growing a new big toe though. That was pretty amazing.

Yall have any experiences with slain in the spirit?

This would be considered more a sign then a gift right?

So what causes you to fall down?

Basically it’s because the power of God overwhelms the nervous system and brain when Holy Ghost Dunamis power flows into a person, when hands are laid on them, and they get weak and/or pass out.

I wanted to bring up the WEIGHTLESSNESS again. I FLOATED backwards, not FELL -- and the people I was "catching" - they floated backwards as well -- there was no real need to "Catch people" -- it was just to make it look safer, when in reality it was safe to begin with. It was for the APPEARANCE of safety that people stood behind people to "catch them".

At church tonight, the lesson was on laws of faith.

Example: healing
1) speak it over your life
2) earnestly seek God for it (reading scriptures on healing, believing those scriptures. Praying/thinking on it.
3)go after it- the woman with the hemorrage disease went after Jesus. She stepped out in faith and touched the hem of His garment.

Warning: now just don't stop taking insulin for example. That is not being wise. But the healing can happen. Wait to see like allergic reactions to the shots take place. If it is eye sight, wait to see it manifest instead of just breaking your glasses. Wise advice. :)

Yes, you find and meditate on scriptures that cover physical healing, such as 1 Peter 2:24, Matthew 8:17-17, Isaiah 53:4, and the scripture that says all the promises of God are not sometimes yes, and sometimes no, but are always yes in Christ, so you know you can claim the promises.

Then you pray daily and thank God that Jesus already healed your problem by His stripes, and when one day you feel the power of the Holy Spirit come on you, the healing is beginning to manifest in you, and you show by your actions that you have faith to be healed by doing something you couldn’t do before.

If that sounds familiar, when Gordon Robinson has a word of knowledge on the 700 club that God is healing a condition, like a painful shoulder, he says, now do something you couldn’t do before, (which is to show faith your that it’s being healed).

Same with laying hands on someone in a wheelchair that can’t walk, and their being told to stand up and walk, or Jesus telling a crippled man to stand up and walk, and Paul did that too, with another crippled man.

Especially during these last couple of years where I have not been regularly attending a physical church services I resort to my own collection of old hymns and what I can find on the Internet. I do believe God helps me find songs that comfort and edify me for He indeed knows our needs better than we, ourselves, do!

Here’s 10 hours of classic hymns that I found on YouTube, and no ads!
