You said:
"Mary receives half the kingdom, Christ retains the kingdom of justice as just judge and Mary is the queen of grace & mercy! Hence the throne of grace is Mary’s throne! Heb 4:16"

This is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit: unbelief in the Son of God.
This Forum very often reminds me of the words of the Apostle Paul from Galatians:
"...there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ."
How is it unbelief? All these graces are merited by Christ in his life death and passion jn 1:16-17

Face 2 face

what is the infallibility of Mary?

noun: infallibility
the quality of being infallible; the inability to be wrong.

In other words, we have Catholic members here who believe Mary couldn't sin, or could never be wrong in any way. Unless you would like to be the brave person to "come out" and declare a Scriptural truth, that Mary, like us, was a sinner and required salvation in the appointed way....we can only assume you will bring out the same non-biblical quotes and regurgitate RCC dogma like those who went before you.

As we have shown Mary was wrong on two counts #143 & #145.

It takes courage to read the Word of God carefully and acknowledge its truths even if they contradict your long held traditions.

@Addy

It has to be said Addy, the deterioration in the Modern Roman Catholics understanding of basic Scripture astounds me. What we have witnessed in this thread is the posting of extra-biblical quotations, weak Middle Ages allegorical interpretation and deflection of truth at all costs. Not one Catholic here, @Illuminator , @Mungo or @Marymog have shown any respect, at all for the Holy Scripture. I expected engagement in the text, but nothing.

You know what it's like addy. It's as though God's written Word has to pass through catechisms, patristic fathers works and lame analogous interpretations even before opening The Bible, and they cant do that...so what are they left with? 10 years ago I was taking part in this forum and the standard of Bible exposition / discussion was far superior to what it is today. The RCC members should hang their heads in shame for what's been posted in this thread.

I believe what has happened is RCC's don't have the tools to properly search the Scripture - they might use it to worship with but only in the context of The Church, but for discovering true doctrine and moral guidance, I am questioning if they know how.

It really is so disappointing.

More lies about Catholics.
infallible
n adjective
incapable of making mistakes or being wrong.
(Concise Oxford English Dictionary)

Infallibility is nothing to do with sinning.
Show me where a Catholic member here has said that Mary is infallible

Welcome to the discussion Mary.
I think it best you read the entire thread...we have past the non-biblical works and references to catechisms and now deeply into the inspired Word. Love to meet you there.
Post #143 & #145 currently stand as evidence against the infallibility of Mary.
Thanks...I know this thread is a month old and I just joined it without reading all of the posts. However I am addressing a sentence in your OP that I need clarification on without reading thru 159 posts. You said: It is widely understood that the treaching [sic] of Mary being the Mother of God was advocated by St. Cyril of Alexandria, at the Council of Ephesus (431) - Does the Church acknowledge this teaching was not taught, or held by the Apostles and was a later developement [sic] by the early Church fathers?

That is why I asked you "Do you not believe Jesus is God?" If you don't want to answer...that's fine. Let me know and I will move on.....

Also, I didn't know that someone had already addressed and debunked your OP that the ECF's BEFORE Cyril didn't teach that Mary was the mother of God. Somebody beat me to the punch.....

Thank you.....Mary

Mungo, to rebuke is to expose something in someone. As the saying goes "better is open rebuke than hidden love". What you may not understand is rebuke is to show true love, enough that you care enough to confront.

ἐπιτιμάω (epitimaō). vb. to rebuke. Primarily refers to the action of corrective rebuke. This verb primarily refers to the action of verbally correcting someone or something. It appears in the nt mostly in the Synoptic Gospels. Lexham Theological Wordbook

I can use the word rebuke or correct, as they carry the same meaning in the NT. BTW the Lexham Theological Wordbook is a great tool as it includes all instances where this word rebuke is used. I wont deviate from the task at hand.

I notice you used quotes from Faculty of the Theology of the University of Navarre & MacEvilly New Testament Commentaries.
Have you tried reading the section of Scripture for yourself? Read (Luke 2:41-52) to see if greater insight can be revealed to you?

Lets look at the exchange:

Mary's accusation:

Luke 2:48 His mother (Mary) said to him (Jesus), “Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously (terribly worried).”

Firstly, Mary is wrong on two (2) counts.

1. Protracted searching of Jesus was their fault. They ought to have known where he would be.

(Mungo, you cant believe Jesus was wrong in his rebuke... and to believe Mary & Joseph's worry was justified, you miss the Lords truth & point!

Jesus answers her worry:

Luke 2:49 But he (Jesus) replied, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Secondly Jesus provides Mary an important fact at age 12, such was the Lord's awareness

2. Joseph is not my Father.

Of all people, Mary and Joseph ought to know his parentage and predeliction in spiritual matters.

The Greek "My Fathers house" literally means “Things of my father”.

What things Mungo?

Consider the gravity of whats before you - he has just rebuked his parents righteously for 2 errors.

1. Their worry in searching was their wrong, not his
2. His Father was not Joseph, but Yahweh

Further to this consider that these are the first recorded words of Messiah!

I hope you & Illuminator understand how significant this section of Scripture is?

Paul speaks to it in Hebrews 10:5-7

when he came into the world, he said, “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me.“Whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you took no delight in. “Then I said, ‘Here I am: I have come—it is written of me in the scroll of the book ;)to do your will, O God.’ ”

Note Mungo:

- When he comes into the world (kosmos) he says
- Fulfilment of God’s Will written “in the top of the scroll”
- Psalms 40:9-10 “preached righteousness in the great congregation” (Jerusalem!!!)

Where was he found? and what was he doing?

Who was in the right and who was in the wrong? Not difficult to answer if you are honest with Scripture and yourself.

I hope this brings you closer to the Lord Jesus Christ and a more factual understanding of Mary? Though blessed and beautiful as she was, she was not infallible; to "worry" was a lack of trust & faith on her/their part, those 3 days.

It's okay Mungo for Mary to be like us in every way...its Jesus who you need to heed. His example is the one to follow.
Hi F2F,

So you believe that since "Mary is wrong on two (2) counts" that is evidence of her not being sinless or pure???

Your theory is that when a mother is concerned for the safety of her child and she calls His earthly father his father that makes her "wrong", sinful and impure?

Mary

Lk 1:49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

God will not give grace to one who is not worthy or who cannot receive it, God will not give graces only to be lost or wasted but must be Efficacious!

All graces are merited by Christ (Jn 1:16-17 1 Jn 1:7) and given to men in the immaculate conception, (Lk 1:28 Lk 1:49 Heb 4:16 until we are able thru baptism (Jn 3:5) to receive them!

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Mary had this faith for us, (Lk 1:45 )and became the mother of our salvation!
(Lk 2:30)

Romans 3:24
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Just as redemption is held in Christ so grace is held on Mary! Lk 1:28 full of grace Heb 4:16 the throne of grace Lk 1:30 found favor of our salvation

This applies to Mary not by nature but by the power and will of God!

A good tree!

Matthew 7:18
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

The fruit of the tree of Mary is our salvation! Lk 2:30 Jesus is our salvation!
Lk 1:30 Mary found our salvation!

Queen of heaven
In the line of david’s kingdom the mother of the king is always queen!
Jesus is king Lk 1:32-33
And Jesus is the king of heaven & earth & all the angels & saints, so Mary is queen of heaven & earth & all the angels & saints!

A Royal greeting!

Lk 1:28 is the only place in the Bible where such a greeting takes place!
Mary is of the tribe of Judah and the royal house of David the king!

God himself is greeting Mary thru the instrument of the angel Gabriel!

This is a Royal greeting of the queen of heaven and earth! Queen of the angels and saints! Mary is of the house of king David!

In the line of king David the mother of the king is the queen, as Jesus Christ is the king of heaven and earth and the angels and saints so Mary is the queen of the same! Lk 1:32-33

Lk 1:28 And the angel entered to her, and said, Hail, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed be thou among women.
29 And when she had heard, she was troubled in his word, and thought what manner salutation this was.
30 And the angel said to her, Dread thou not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.

Mary is queen in rev 12:1 and heb 4:16
Mother of divine grace who is the throne of divine grace!

The Holy Family had gone to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover but on the return voyage, Mary and Joseph discovered that Jesus, who was only twelve years old, was not in the caravan.

They searched for Jesus for three days, finally finding Him in the Temple amid the doctors of the law.
When they found Jesus, the Gospel says, “they were astonished” and Mary expressed her concern to Jesus, saying, “Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.”
In the Holy Family, astonishment never failed!
To feel astonishment is the opposite of taking everything for granted… It means opening ourselves to others.
This attitude is important for mending compromised relationships and curing the open wounds within the family.
The anxiety felt by Mary and Joseph, shows the centrality of Jesus in the Holy Family. And so we see, why the family of Nazareth is holy – because it was centred on Jesus, all the attention and care of Joseph revolved around Him.

The anxiety felt by Mary and Joseph, when Jesus was lost for three days, should also be our anxiety, when we are far from Jesus, when we forget Jesus, going without prayer, without reading the Gospel for several days.
Mary and Joseph found Jesus in the Temple and we too, should seek Jesus in the house of God – and especially, in the Liturgy, where we have the living experience of Jesus, in His Word and in the Eucharist, from which we receive the strength to face the difficulties of each day….

After searching for three days, Mary and Joseph find the twelve-year-old Jesus sitting in the Temple discussing the law with the learned doctors. (Luke 2:42-52).

"How is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"
This is the answer that Jesus gave to His Mother when, after three days' search she had the joy of finding Him in the Temple.
These are the first words coming from the lips of the Word Incarnate to be recorded in the
Gospel.
In these words Jesus sums up His whole person, His whole life, His whole mission. They reveal His Divine Sonship; they testify to His supernatural mission. Christ's whole life will only be a clarifying and magnificent exposition of the meaning of these words.
St. Luke goes on to tell us that Mary "did not understand the word that He spoke." But even if Mary did not grasp the full significance of these words, she did not doubt that Jesus was the Son of God. This is why she submitted in silence to that Divine Will which had demanded such a sacrifice of her love.
"Mary kept these words of Jesus carefully in her heart." She kept them in her heart, for there was the tabernacle in which she adored the mystery concealed in the words of her Son, waiting until the full light of understanding would be granted her.

(insert head shack in disbelief)

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin.

What does Jesus being born into our bias nature and overcoming temptation to sin have anything to do with Mary? She is like David in Acts 2:29 who is buried asleep in her Lord??? It is Christ alone who sits at the right hand of the Father on high and it is only Christ who has ever passed through the Curtain and into the Heavens.

rev 20 Christ sits at the right hand of the father on the great white throne

the throne of grace is Mary

Old Testament type or example provided by God for our instruction!

Queen Esther

Queen Esther fair: est 2:7
Mary all fair: gen 3:15 Song of Solomon 4:12 Lk 1:28 rev 12:1

And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; est 2:17
Song of S. 4:2 love of God for Mary!
And the angel entered to her, and said, Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed be thou among women.
Lk 1:28 also Lk 1:30 1:42 1:45 1:48
Mary obtained grace and favor: Lk 1:28
Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Esther merits the graces of the king for the people. Est
Mary merits the graces we need but don’t deserve. Lk 1:30
Mother is the mother of our savior and our salvation! Lk 2:30 matt 1:21

They prayed to Esther to intercede for them before the king. As Mary intercedes for Christians before God.

Queen Esther found favor with the king: est 2:17
Mary found favor with God: Lk 1:30

Queen Esther saves her people interceding with the king: est 8:17
Mary provides the savior of the world!
Lk 2:10-11

Queen Esther receives half the kingdom!
Mary receives half the kingdom, Christ retains the kingdom of justice as just judge and Mary is the queen of grace & mercy! Hence the throne of grace is Mary’s throne! Heb 4:16
Depicted in genesis as the greater light that rules the day (those living in God’s will) and the lesser light that governs the night (those living in sin) Mary the mother of mercy and refuge of sinners!
Notice the sun is the source of all good and moon only reflects this goodness!
She directs all to Her divine son! Jn 2:5

Mary is created by God thru the immaculate conception worthy to receive grace, and the miraculous conception of the Holy Spirit, and the savior and our salvation!

Notice how Christ died for us!

Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

We were not worthy to die for our own salvation!

The same applies to grace, we are not worthy to receive grace, so God made Mary by the immaculate conception worthy to receive all grace for us, and worthy to miraculously conceive of the Holy Spirit and to give birth to our savior and worthy to receive our salvation!

Lk 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Lk 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

Lk 2:30 I have seen my salvation.

Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Ark of the new covenant!
The dwelling place of God!
God dwelt in Mary’s womb for 9 months, remember the ark was incorruptible wood covered with pure gold signifying Mary’s immaculate purity!
read exodus or any place in the Old Testament where something came into contact with God or was consecrated to the service of God it had to be pure and Holy!
In the ark was the word of God!
In Mary the new ark is the living Word!
In the ark was the mana!
In Mary was the bread come down from heaven! Jn 6
Bethlehem means house to of bread!

Lk 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Matt 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, (Isa 7:14) and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Jn 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Holy mother of God!

Lk 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Biblical principle:
Anything Consecrated to God must be pure and used only for the purpose of serving God!

See exodus: the ark of the covenant, everything used in the temple etc.

Ezekiel 44:2 “This gate shall remain shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it; for the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered by it; therefore it shall remain shut.”

Mary and her virginity are Consecrated to God in immaculate purity, the pure gold of divine love!

Mary was the dwelling place of the Almighty, like the Ark of the Covenant in the Old Testament. Mary was a vessel consecrated to God alone!

Can a man use the ark of the covenant for a common dinner table?

Then Joseph can in no any way use Mary for a common wife!

No mere man may enter where God conceived! Ez 44:2

Mary would not consent to God’s will and to receive the exalted dignity of the mother of God if it means violating her vow of perpetual virginity then why simply consent relations with Joseph!

That’s impossible!

Lk 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

(This verse imply’s that Mary is consecrated to God alone! and has taken a vow of perpetual virginity! She was s willing to refuse even the exalted dignity of mother of God, the mother of our savior, and mother of all Christians if it means violating Her vow of perpetual virginity)

Lk 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

She consented to our salvation when she realized it would not violate her vow of perpetual virginity!

noun: infallibility
the quality of being infallible; the inability to be wrong.

1st the authority of the church and the apostles

Authority of the Apostles!

What authority does Christ have?
What power does Christ have?
What mission / ministry does Christ have?

Peter, the apostles and their successors have the same authority, power, and mission! Jn 20:21 as my father sent me, even so send I you!

The apostles are Christ’s successors!
They have authority to send others as well, apostle means one who is sent!

Therefore the apostles have authority to send more apostles or successors!
Apostolic succession!

The nations still need to be taught, disciples still need to be baptized and the church the new covenant kingdom of christ still needs to be governed!

Hebrews 3:1
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Christ is an apostle, and has authority to send other apostles, the apostles also have this authority, so the apostles continue down thru the centuries as Christ promised! Matt 28:19-20

Keys of authority! And power to bind and loose! Matt 16:18 and Matt 18:18 matt 28:19 Isa 22:21-22

Moral authority:
(Teaching)
Necessity of being taught by Christ:
Two edge sword: defining truth and condemning errors, and Interpreting scripture.

Jurisdictional authority:
(Governing / administering)
Necessity of Peter and the apostles and their successors to govern the holy church.

Spiritual authority:
(Life of Grace)
Sanctifying thru the mass and Sacraments

The apostles teaching is Christ’s teaching, Christ and His church are one! Acts 9:4

Christian rule of faith is not the Bible alone! But the doctrine of the apostles! Acts 2:42

Jesus Christ continues HIS ministry in His new covenant church thru Peter, the apostles, and their successors with the same mission, power, and authority!
Mt 16:18 Mt 28:19 Acts 1:17 acts 8:31 & 35 Lk 10:16 Jn 8:32 Jn 13:20 Jn 15:5 Jn 16:13 Jn 20:21-22 eph 2:20

Lk 10:16
He who hears you hears me...

John 13:20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Only the church has authority from Christ to define the truth and teach!
Matt 16:18 matt 18:18 matt 28:19 Jn 20:21-23 Jn 8:32 Jn 16:13

The teaching of Peter and the apostles and successors is the teaching of Christ!

to attack the church is to attack Christ!
Christ and his church are one acts 9:4

2nd I never said Mary was god all knowing, she is a created human mother having all the normal feelings of a mother who loses her child

is it a sin to grieve at the loss of a son?

did she grieve when he died on the cross?

Lk 1:35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

Mary was sinless but also has a savior. Lk 1:47 but there are two actions associated with saving, to forgive our sins: and to preserve us from committing sin in the future: it is very important to realize it is God who does this: Mary in her creation in her mothers womb is created by God without original sin in virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ!
Lk 1:49 Jn 1:16-17
Sinless gen 3:15 enmity total war none of his wicked works are found in her
rev 12:1 clothed with the sun
Her immaculate purity!

John sanctified in the womb!

Lk 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

Lk 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

Zacharias is filled with the Holy Spirit and prophecy!

Lk 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

The disciples are supplied with faith, hope, and charity!

11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

All these blessings from God because of Mary most holy!

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

The throne of Grace is the throne of Mary the ever Virgin mother of God!

We come boldly to this throne cause Mary is our mother and advocate!

Mary is the storehouse of divine graces!

Lk 1:28
And the angel entered to her, and said, Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed be thou among women.

All graces come from the merits of Christ, from His passion and death and come thru Mary to the glory of Her only begotten Son!

More lies about Catholics.
infallible
n adjective
incapable of making mistakes or being wrong.
(Concise Oxford English Dictionary)

Infallibility is nothing to do with sinning.
Show me where a Catholic member here has said that Mary is infallible
Welcome back Mungo,
So you are saying now that Mary was wrong on two counts? (please clarify so we can move forward)

Mungo, its like pulling teeth with you...why cant you speak to the Scripture? Why cant you simply say Mary was wrong and Jesus was right?
Or
Do you believe Mary was impeccable? When your pope speaks ex cathedra do you believe he is infallible and without error? If your Pope being born of sinners is blameless while performing his rituals, what of Mary who you say is the Mother of God....is she infallible and not capable of sin? Or fallible and capable of sin? Which is it?

It's time for some honesty on your part.

After searching for three days, Mary and Joseph find the twelve-year-old Jesus sitting in the Temple discussing the law with the learned doctors. (Luke 2:42-52).

Thanks Illuminator,
While you didn't say emphatically that Mary falsely accused Jesus and made two errors in judgement, at least you were able to speak to Luke 2:41-52 in part. You acknowledge that Mary did not understand the words of Jesus and that is a major step in understanding who Mary actually is.

Mary was exactly likes others who could not discern the Lords wisdom for many times those around Jesus did not understand what he was saying at the time (Luke 9:45; Luke 10:21-24; Luke 18:34)

Not sounding like a Mother of God to me....

Also, I didn't know that someone had already addressed and debunked your OP that the ECF's BEFORE Cyril didn't teach that Mary was the mother of God. Somebody beat me to the punch.....
Thank you.....Mary

Just silly games Marymog...if you want to enter the fray do so with Scripture in hand and don't forget to leave Cyril at the door? Post 143 & Post 145 and Luke 2:48-50 - was Mary fallible and capable of sin or infallible and not capable of sin? Which is it?
