Let's look at some defining facts

Lie - to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive. Eg They were lying to the child when they said it was SantaClause that brought them the gift...

So then... Telling a child about Santa is by definition a lie...

I suppose if I were to answer the question seriously, Cristo Rea, if I had kids I would likely sit them down and from square one explain the real story of St. Nicholas, where we got "Santa Claus" from, that he was a Christian man who was very generous, and how it morphed into this jolly old St. Nick character that everybody dresses up as at the mall now. That way he wouldn't take it seriously, and could understand where that part of the customs came from, and just enjoy the season with a clear head.

As for Rudolf, I got nothin, LoL.

Christmas is always a battle for me , torn between those wonderful memories and endeavouring to align it to Jesus ….never succeeded.
Me neither. And I'm not ashamed of it. It's a man made holiday.
Since getting saved the only holiday that has meant anything to me spiritually is Resurrection Sunday, a.k.a. Easter.

Ive been itching to get this off my hairy chest. Now its time

Santa Claus a fraud

I don't like Santa Claus at all... His like a false idol in my book.

The 25th of December is the day that we celebrate the birth of Jesus... Santa Claus is nothing but a distraction. Taking the glory away from Christ

And why do we lie to kids about Santa... We teach them not to lie than we lie to them... Such hypocrites. Doesn't set a good example... Why do we need Santa claus, why not teach the kids to give gifs instead of expecting something from this false idol

Santa clause is a fraud... Invented by Coke to promote their product i believe. Maybe someone else can give us a bit more of a history lesson on him, the false idol

From very young i thought Santa was a fool... One Christmas morning i woke up to find a new bicycle under the tree... But it was a girls bike. I was sceptical from that day on

I wonder how Christians used to celebrate Christmas, pre Santa... Most likely by focusing more on Christ. We should go back to that i think

So then, what do you think... Is Santa a fraud?

I tend to believe the background traditional history...
In brief...
Centuries ago in Turkey there was a man named Nicholas.
This man, became a Bishop, and was at some point by the Catholics,
Given “Saint-hood”... ie... St. Nicholas.
This same man, knew of another man, a man of meager means...
Who had 3 daughters. His daughters were of marrying age, but the father had no means to provide a customary dowry.
St. Nicholas wanted to make an anonymous good-will gesture to the man, supposedly tossed some gold coins in the mans window. But the father of the girls saw who tossed the coins, and supposedly inspected the coins by the light near his fireplace.
( I presume the gift of gab, that people have, spread the word of St. Nicholas’ generosity, (attempted to be anonymous).
* Which BTW IS a Biblical Principle, to do charible acts for Gods Glory, not the person giving....
* Call it ... word of mouth spreading, one who speaks another language, hearing of anonymous giving....and we find Dutch men, Hearing of;
St. Nicholas....and it is not a far stretch for me to believe...a Dutch man, would repeat the story, in their own native Dutch dialect...
Saint...ie Sant.....Nicholas...ie Nikclaus ...
ie...Saint Nicholas....Sant-a-claus

* the US did not exist as a Nation in those days.
* As the US was developing, Many Dutch people immigrated to the US.
* Not unlike many immigrants, they continued to practice their traditions in their homes.

Gift of gab, is not unique to modern men, and I presume the Dutch “tradition” of giving an unexpected anonymous gift was a curious and acceptable idea to other men.
Early renditions of “Sant-a-claus”... was of a man, wearing a long robe, (a fashion of clothing worn by the Bishop St. Nicholas)
You may have even seen, “some modern” renditions, of “ole’ St. Nick”, in a long dark colored robe type of attire for sale in stores.

The Red clothing with White trim, was “an” artists rendition from his own imagination”, that was printed in newspapers. And the later addition of flying reindeer, sliding down the chimney, giving gifts to all children, was the “imagination” of story tellers with a flare for fantasy, with a “commendable” message of “giving, without expectation of a reward in return”.

My kids got unwrapped “gifts” from “Santa class”... and knew, “they were gifts”, (from Mommy and Daddy), that they would not know WHAT they would be, “until they saw the gifts”.

For us, it was more about, ya, ya, kiddos asking parents for things they had seen and thought they would like to have, and hope to get...
but for us, it was more about “getting something for the kids they had never seen or knew about, ie an actual surprise”.

The fact is, giving another to Glorify God, without expectation of receiving something in return is Biblical charity.

I view Santa Claus as being based on a historical character, who willingly gave to another without expectation of receiving reward or accolades for his giving.

I believe the TRUTH given a child is about the “message” of giving is the highlight....Including the TRUTH that the “sky riding man being pulled by flying reindeer” is fantasy.

Anyway, that’s my take on the matter.

Glory to God,

Exactly. The poll should have had a 100% "Yes" response. But it is only 50%. Very strange.
I voted 'no'. Everybody knows he doesn't wiggle down chimneys to bring you your presents, lol........he uses the front door.
But anyway, I voted 'no' because the holiday tradition and all it's trappings is itself a real thing that I enjoy every year.

I think several who have responded just haven't taken the poll all that seriously to begin with. It's like asking a room full of Rhodes scholars if they think the Easter Bunny is real.

You're likely not going to get a ton of serious answers.

the term "Santa Claus" comes from the Dutch ‘Sinterklaas’ meaning ‘Saint Nicholas’ and was first used in American English around 1765. It is thus simply an English derivation and pronunciation of the Dutch word ‘Sinterklaas,’ not some anagram.
How difficult would it be to say "sinter" instead of "santa"?? It doesn't make a lot of sense.

Ever watched Miracle On 34th Street? It depicts "Santa" as being of Dutch heritage, and at one point he teaches the young girl in the movie how to sing a song about Santa Claus in Dutch, where together they pronounce it "Sinterclasha." It's seriously not something you would say in English, nor is anything else in the song.

This happens all the time in language. The accents are so strong in the original language that it gets watered down to something more natural in the new one. It's like the difference between a Jew saying the name "Yahweh" and you and I saying "Jehovah." Sounds like two completely different Gods, yet they are really just two separate ways of trying to say the same name, but in two different languages.

you say i lie you cross the line for civilized. please dont play the innocent victim
So you really believe that a historical man then became immortal and lives at the North Pole with elves, making toys all year and then his magical reindeer pull his sled flying all over the world in one night, and that his fat self slips down chimneys and leaves toys for every child in the world?? And if he were real, why does he leave out so many very poor children who get nothing while the rich get more than they need or even care for? If he's such a saint, why does he promote self glory and greed? If he's a saint, why doesn't he care about people with no money whose children go without?

Do you really believe this stuff?? Then why tell your children it's true?? Telling an untruth over and over and over ......year after year ...... there's nothing else to label it, but "lying." And who tells lies? Liars. And who is the father of lies?? .....certainly not Jesus.

Now, I didn't call you a liar. I'm simply asking you if you believe that myth is true. And if not .....why don't you tell your children the truth?

Why not say it in English?? It's not difficult. And wow, you're basing your truth on a hollywood movie??

Have you ever had children amigo? You can't tell them the truth some times. It would be cruelty.
That's a CRAZY notion!!!! Crazy!!
I raised my children with the truth. The truth didn't scar them.

Deception and believing a lie is characteristic of the last days. It's disappointing how many are willing to change a lie into the truth. But we shouldn't be too shocked. They will vilify those who speak the truth.

Your boring. No santa claus. Children love that stuff. Come on, let them be children.
Loving the truth and holiness of God is never boring my friend . its the abundant life .
Loving the truth , loving what God calls good is never boring .
We should never tell children there is an all knowing santa in the north pole . Just tell them of the Glorious Christ
and of pure and lovely sound doctrine in the bible . Raise those children up in the ways of truth and soberness
and they will later teach their children to flee from the appearance of evil as well .
Let us keep all things pure . Blending evil in with good and making evil seem cute and joyous does not bring GOD pleasure at all .
Remember our life ought to be lived unto HE who has saved us . Not unto fables and such .

I as a child remember one Christmas, the best Christmas as a child, I was 4 years old and it was a happy memory where my brothers and sisters were happy. Then my Dad became abusive and I lost that happiness. I will always remember that 4 year old Christmas as my happy time.
As for me i will remember the very day God brought Grace unto me which brought happiness that the world knows not into my soul .
Let go of our past old lives and cling to the new man . Everyone has had pain in their life . Remember this , THE JOY OF THE LORD .
I dont need a fable to bring me good memories . Just THINK upon ALL that GOD has done for the sake of the lambs .
