Christmas time is supposed to be a time of giving. But children find it a time to receive. And it can be a wonderfully happy experience for them. Something to carry into their lives into adulthood. And when their adults they can remember what it was like to receive gifts you weren't able to provide for themselves and the happiness it brought. And with that memory bless the lives of the poor and ill by buying them things. It is a Christian tradition.
Giving is always good my friend . But lying is not . There is no such thing as an omni present everyknowing santa clause
who knows ALL that they been doing . ONLY GOD gets that title .
Giving is good , lying is not good . We dont invent fables for to make our children happy . That is not
a good christain example .

Have you ever had children amigo? You can't tell them the truth some times. It would be cruelty.

I do believe there was a Saint Nicholas and I believe that his giving was motivated by concern for those who had very little.
I don’t really know whether I ever really believed in Father Christmas / Santa , my parents never discouraged or encouraged. As a parent I had the same attitude, I never promoted Santa , but if my children believed in him then I allowed them to discover the truth as they got older and I could explain it more.

Is it right to make children believe that they can just ask Santa for anything and they will get it….. it’s the children from poorer families that must often be disappointed and feel of less value when they don’t receive what they secretly ask Santa for……. That’s the side of it that I find difficult.. having said that as a child I have amazing memories of Christmas, but not ones that included Jesus because I grew up in a non Christian environment. Christmas is always a battle for me , torn between those wonderful memories and endeavouring to align it to Jesus ….never succeeded.
Christmas Eve has always been my favourite day because of the memories I had at home, and when my children were younger.

I as a child remember one Christmas, the best Christmas as a child, I was 4 years old and it was a happy memory where my brothers and sisters were happy. Then my Dad became abusive and I lost that happiness. I will always remember that 4 year old Christmas as my happy time.

Let's look at some defining facts

Lie - to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive. Eg They were lying to the child when they said it was SantaClause that brought them the gift...

So then... Telling a child about Santa is by definition a lie...

Fraud - a person or thing intended to deceive others, typically by unjustifiably claiming or being credited with accomplishments or qualities. Eg Santa Claus

Santa is by definition a fraud. Unjustifiably being credited with accomplishments and qualities.

Exactly. The poll should have had a 100% "Yes" response. But it is only 50%. Very strange.

I find it very strange as well Enoch...
I started this poll expecting to have a bit of a laugh at the expense of this fraud called Santa...
Instead people have taken it very seriously, in defence of the fraudulent one... Not what i expected

I didn't think i would have to mention the following but perhaps many people don't know...

Santa is a big reason why teenagers stray from God...

You are lying to a child... When that child finds out that is mentally damaging in many ways and stays with them forever in the subconscious.
The childs trust in their parents is damaged... Its like the boy who cried wolf...

I don't know if Santa had anything to do with me leaving my shepherd but i do know that it had a big influence in the lives of many atheists. I can attest because i was on atheist forums and saw it for my self...

What does a confused teenager think "Where is this God that they speak of... I can't see him... Is he like Santa Claus... Another lie... Another wives tale" Many atheists compare Santa Claus with Jesus and say that there is more evidence for Santa than God and its a solid argument given we can go and see Santa at the shopping center and receive letters from him but not so with God

If you don't believe me just look at the conversation happening now in my old atheist forum, where i was banned,
titled "God, santa and the tooth fairy"
God, Santa, and The Tooth Fairy

My criticism also extends to the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny (none of which my parents adhered to, we threw our teeth onto the roof and prayed an our father).
We don't need to lie to bring happiness to kids...

This is what Christmas is all about... Not some false idol...
