You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48 RSV

I frequently hear people say that it is impossible not to sin. I know we’ve all sinned but I don’t know why we can’t stop.

You're right. It is possible, but impossible by yourself. That is what they are experiencing when they believe their experience over the Word of God. We must be born again of the Holy Spirit and be partaking of the divine nature of Jesus. 2 Peter 1:2-4. Then we can stop sinning because He is in us. But many just have faith in Jesus, but do not have the faith of Jesus.

Let's remind everyone what it means to not sin and this is just what I saw there is probably more:

Matthew 25:35-40

New King James Version

35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Revelation 21:8-10

King James Version

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

have you stopped sinning 1CL?

Not when I belonged to the SDA Church until I was 23. And not when I had joined another legalistic denomination for a year. And not even when I first learned about the baptism of the Holy Spirit and believed that Cessationism was dead wrong, and that the gifts are alive and well today. But finally 6 years after that did I finally repent and acknowledged that knowing the laws of God are not enough; that I needed Jesus to intervene and prayed for Him to take away my sin (the object of my sin, which is all I knew at the time), and He literally spoke one word to me. I was shocked. Then He went on and spoke 8 clear sentences. I was overwhelmed with wonder. And then I felt a weight lift out of me, and something like warm oil flow over me from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. It was the baptism of the Holy Spirit that I had heard about, but now experienced. The weight that was lifted out of me was the carnal nature that produces sin. It was the nature of Satan that had started in mankind ever since Adam lost his divine nature through sin. Now I have the divine nature that Adam lost, and Jesus abides in me and has given me divine power - the real meaning of His grace. 2 Peter 1:2-4. The born again have the nature of Jesus. So to answer your question - ask Jesus if He sinned. He never did and was the firstborn of "many brethren" which I am one. Romans 8:29-30. Praise God!

QT, I'm not saying that I couldn't have received the Holy Spirit while in the SDA Church. It was just my own history that I hadn't. Since leaving I have met one SDA pastor that I know has one of the same gifts that I do. It was confirmed to me twice. The Spirit had me studying a certain topic, and while I was visiting my mother and visited her church, that pastor preached on the same subject and said the exact same things the Spirit had taught me. A couple years later, the same thing happened on another subject I was learning through the Spirit. The same Spirit was teaching us at the same time, and He used that to show me that even an SDA can be Spirit-filled. Up until then, I thought they just stayed under the Law. God showed me otherwise and I was freed from the anger and prejudice I harbored for years. Now, on these forums I always side with the SDA's when they are being attacked. It is better to love God's laws than to be in some demon taught denomination that is lawless.

10 commandment=TV, movies, novels, music, video games and computer games are all sins except sermons

1 John 3:1-9
King James Version

3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Thank you for your answer 1CL however, in spite of all the words you haven't answered the question directly....instead, you have wandered around. Perhaps go back to the question. :)

In context Jesus wasn't saying we are to be morally excellent, rather, that we are to love others equally as God does.

Much love!

Obviously, the answer is no to willful sins of lawlessness - sins unto death. But yes, to trespasses against brethren when I get frustrated, so have committed sins not unto death. But I have learned by the Spirit to quickly forgive those who trespass against me, and try to reconcile. Then the blood of Jesus is my Advocate and automatically cleanses those and unknown sins. Forgiveness is key on the road to perfection and holiness. 1 Peter 1:15-16; 1 John 3:3; Matthew 6:14-15. Forgiveness and Reconciliation among the brethren are Commandments from Jesus. John 15:10; 1 John 1:7

You can't have love to others and NOT be morally excellent. Morals are part of holiness and purity. 1 Peter 1:15-16; 1 John 3:3.

I sure hope you didn't buy into the doctrine that morals are "works." But it is true that you can't be holy on your own. A "Christian" is not a Christian unless they have the indwelling Spirit of Jesus INSIDE of them, and not just on the outside giving them knowledge - like learning the Ten Commandments and trying to follow them on your own through willpower. We must have the divine power of God's grace to partake of the divine nature. 2 Peter 1:2-4 I know you don't believe the old carnal nature was nailed to the cross, but that is your choice to believe or not believe in the power of the blood of Jesus.

I'm just saying what the passage says. Take it or leave it. Many leave it, so don't worry about it.

Much love!

No you aren't. If you don't think God is moral, then yes, you believe God's perfection has nothing to do with morals. But that is hogwash. If you want to twist scripture to your own experience, that is up to you. But the real truth is in His word. Take it or leave it.

Oh, but she DID answer you, if only by implication.

But then, who wants to just come out and say, "I've stopped from ALL works of flesh!" Who?

Much love!

If you don't think God is moral, then yes, you believe God's perfection has nothing to do with morals.
Is that what you want me to look like?

Matthew 5:43-48 KJV
43) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46) For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47) And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48) Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Much love!
