Possibly the one He refers to as His "holy day?" He said it--not me. :)
...unless it's not established...
(I try to avoid using words like "obviously.")
...except that we can't, really.
I don't see anything similar at all between circumcision and rest. The first thing I think of when reading or hearing about circumcision is PAIN--not rest. The Sabbath is, by definition within itself, about rest from work--not sin. The OT nowhere says "Sabbath your hearts," as it does with circumcision. And, if they are related, it sure doesn't say so in Isaiah 58. :)
All this stuff has been addressed. Spam all you like. It just gives the thread more visibility. :)Sabbath keepers today just play at keeping it, they don’t obey the law connected with sabbath day keeping, such as ‘thou shalt have no fires in your habitation on the sabbath’, meaning no furnace in Siberia, no cooking fires, and no hot water heater is allowed to be in operation on the sabbath.
No fires for heat to stay warm wasn’t a problem for Israel, out in the desert - but sabbath day keeping in Siberia would be a big problem.
Exo 35:3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.
And animal sacrifice and a burnt offering are integral parts of sabbath keeping.
Num 28:9 And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:
Num 28:10 This is the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
Finally, the law requires killing those who break the sabbath.
Exo 35:2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
To keep the sabbath requires killing those who don’t keep it, it’s not an option.
And that’s why sabbath keepers just play at sabbath keeping.
Not talking about the ten commandments. The law that stood in for the Seed of promise is the Levitical law representing the atonement which Christ could not physically have administered until "the fullness of time had come (Galatians 4:4)."Precious friends:
Should I "keep the sabbath"? Then, please, so I can correct my
misunderstanding, explain:
"Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions,
till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made..." (Gal_3:19)
?
I don't understand this at all, FB. :)Definitely!
You haven't entered into God's rest until you've done the other nine, and all the other similar commands in the law of Moses.
The sign of the New Covenant is the Lord's Supper. When a person gets saved they enter God's established day when they rest from their slavery to sin and their service to the taskmaster of sin. To not do so is to be cutoff from the covenant. To do so is to show that you are in covenant with God.
You're using a sub-detail/requirement of the commandment to define the whole. That doesn't seem like a sound hermeneutic. :)The sabbath is the designated 'day' in which the slave rests from his taskmaster (Deuteronomy 5:14-15).
You know, that's just a mean thing to say. There are people who are being physically persecuted right now for worshiping God according to the dictates of their conscience by keeping the Sabbath. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. And that’s why sabbath keepers just play at sabbath keeping.
And you call Sabbath keepers legalists!!!The law given to Moses calls for the death penalty by stoning, for doing any work, such as gathering sticks, on the sabbath.
And requires death penalty by stoning for adultery, for not honoring your parents, for murder, and many other offenses.
If the sabbath command is still in effect, the penalty for breaking it would still in effect, and sabbath keepers are breaking the law by not killing the sabbath breakers.
I won't enter a debate, but just to explain. How can Jewish believers in Jesus Christ be known apart from the Jews that they are no longer under the Old Covenant but the New, if Jewish Christians still keeps the sabbath?
Isn't part of keeping the sabbath day to the Jews is executing those among them for breaking the sabbath?
Isn't part of keeping the sabbath day mean not having any one else work for you like going out to eat on the sabbath?
Isn't part of keeping the sabbath is having food already cooked in the house & prepared the day before to eat so that no one is cooking on the sabbath?
Are Christians really keeping the sabbath perfectly & holy as the Jews are supposed to?
So why call themselves Sabbath Keepers? To separate themselves from Christians that are not?
John 5:31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
John 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law?.........
Scripture says it is okay for Christians to honor the Lord any day, including the sabbath day, but it is not okay to be known as keeping the sabbath day holy, hence "Sabbath Day Keepers" because that would be testifying of ourselves in seeking our own glory as it separates us from the body of Christ & judges Christians that do not keep the sabbath "holy".
There is no way Christian "Sabbath Day Keepers" are keeping the sabbath day "holy" like the Jews are supposed to do.
But this is why Jesus came.
1 Corinthians 3: 21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are your's; 22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are your's; 23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
1 Corinthians 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
Out of the 7 churches in Revelations, the 5 that were bad were not chastened for not keeping the sabbath.
Out of the 7 churches in Revelations, the 2 that were good were not exhorted to continue to keep the sabbath day.
In all of the 7 churches, none was commended for keeping the sabbath day, and yet in this world today, there are a lot of churches not keeping the sabbath day but worshiping the Lord on Sunday.
If we believe that the Bridegroom returns is imminent for why we are to be ready & found abiding in Him & His words as His disciples ( John 15:1-8 ), how can the Lord overlook this offense unless He is able to make them stand regardless of profaning the sabbath?
Let's talk about this some more. But isn't this just another way of saying the Sabbath is either optional or of less importance than the other 9 commandments?
I don't argue that. The sabbath day is the 7th day. Always has been, always will be. The Catholics had no authority to change the holy days to pagan equivalents. What I resist is the thinking that the sabbath observance is equal to not murdering, or not coveting, etc. I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from being observant (observant believers must follow their conscience). I am trying to show why I think I don't have to be.The same 24 hour Sabbath day starting tomorrow. It is a holy day. That had never been changed. Not one hint anywhere in scripture that the 7th day is no longer holy. What excuse do you offer for living throughout every 7th day and not recognize it's holiness?
No, the sign that you are in New Covenant relationship with God is the absence of the deeds of the flesh - sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, discord, jealousy, rage, rivalries, divisions, factions, envy, drunkenness...The sign of the New Covenant is the Lord's Supper.
You haven't entered into God's rest until you've done the other nine, and all the other similar commands in the law of Moses.
Do you understand now?I don't understand this at all, FB. :)
Let's talk about this some more.
This shows us that the sabbath commandment is not equal in importance to 'do not murder' and 'do not commit adultery'
13Bring your worthless offerings no more; The observances of the Israelites were rejected by God because they were not living in obedience to him. Obedience to him in regard to what? The moral aspects of the law. The prophet is making a clear delineation between being observant and being obedient to that which matters. Just try putting 'not stealing', or 'not coveting' in place of 'Sabbaths' in verse 13 above and you'll see the truth of what I'm talking about. This is why I, personally, don't feel compelled to have to keep a sabbath day like I do have to 'not murder' and 'do not steal', etc. It's fine if someone wants to be observant. I wish the church had not abandoned the Mosaic worship cycle, but not because 'keep sabbath' is of equal import to 'do not covet'. If someone's conviction is that they must view being observant that way then that's what they must do. I respect that. I just don't have that conviction for the reasons I've shared right from the OT itself.
your incense is detestable to Me—
your New Moons, Sabbaths, and convocations.
I cannot endure iniquity
in a solemn assembly.14I hate your New Moons
and your appointed feasts.
They have become a burden to Me;
I am weary of bearing them.15When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide My eyes from you;
even though you multiply your prayers,
I will not listen.
Your hands are covered with blood.16Wash and cleanse yourselves.
Remove your evil deeds from My sight.
Stop doing evil!
Isaiah 1:13-16

I cannot help but notice that you ignore the elephant sitting on your lounge suite.
In the beginning, at creation, God blessed, sanctified, and made holy the Sabbath day. The same 24 hour Sabbath day Jesus claimed to be Lord of. The same Sabbath day Jews and Christians have been keeping since then. The same 24 hour Sabbath day starting tomorrow. It is a holy day. That had never been changed. Not one hint anywhere in scripture that the 7th day is no longer holy. What excuse do you offer for living throughout every 7th day and not recognize it's holiness?
You Sabbath protagonists as Sunday protagonists fool only yourself pretending Jesus Christ "our Passover" the Passover "Lamb of God", that HIS RISING FROM THE SEA OF SINS' GRAVE is not God's Blessing on the Sabbath, is not God's Hallowing of the Seventh Day, is not God's Finishing of all his works on the Sabbath Day, is not God's REST OF THE SABBATH OF THE LORD GOD!
You just lie to yourself. You hunger yourself out, and die of thirst for want of God's WORD on the Sabbath Day. You're starving, but slam from the Saviour's hand the cup of joys beyond comprehension.
You miserable Seventh day Adventists especially, you who, like you ignore the Sabbath Truth of Jesus' Resurrection on it, IGNORE YOUR MISERABLE PROPHETESS who sanctified Antichrist's Sun's Day with Jesus' Resurrection and declared it the day forever to be remembered for its joy and greatness.
AND YOU PRETEND YOU DON'T KNOW SHE WROTE IT IN HER BOOK DESIRE OF AGES. YOU LIE THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW! HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW MRS ELLEN WHITE VENERATED SUNDAY LIKE SHE NEVER VENERATED GOD'S SEVENTH DAY SABBATH?!
HYPOCRITES!
