BY RAYNA REID · UPDATED APRIL 7, 2022

On Tuesday, with virtually no discussion or debate, the Oklahoma House state legislature, which currently has a Republican supermajority, voted 70-14 to pass Senate Bill (SB) 612 “that would make performing an abortion a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.”

The author of the bill, Republican state Rep. Jim Olsen, said, “Obviously, I’m thrilled because we have the potential of seeing many lives of babies saved.” The bill now is headed up to GOP Governor Kevin Stitt and is expected to become law, as Stitt has previously said on the record that “he’d sign any anti-abortion bill that comes to his desk.” Should the bill be signed into law, it would become effective this year on August 26.

Pundits have concluded that a major impetus for the passage of this bill was because “Oklahoma became a major destination for women from Texas who were seeking abortions after that state enacted a law banning the procedure after about six weeks, a very early stage of pregnancy.” It is significant to note that there are only four abortion provider facilities in the state of Oklahoma. Thus this bill is expected to have an impact that will extend beyond the state and on the entirety of the region.

An abortion-rights group coalition, which includes the Oklahoma Call for Reproductive Justice and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Oklahoma, released a statement that said in part, “If allowed to take effect, SB 612 would be devastating for both Oklahomans and Texans who continue to seek care in Oklahoma.”

Nearly half of the patients Oklahoma providers are currently seeing are medical refugees from Texas…Now, Oklahomans could face a future where they would have no place left in their state to go to seek this basic health care.”

ACLU of Oklahoma director Tamya Cox-Touré said the bill is an “alarming reminder that the days of access to safe and legal abortion may be numbered, and we must continue to fight to guarantee all people have access to the essential health care they need, including abortion.”

May the Okies then have their day with God? [I was born in Oklahoma City and now reside in Oklahoma... so I guess I am one of them.]
I know Oklahoma City is a big place, but are you aquatinted with any of the churches there? There is a church called Highway of Holiness. Idk if it's still there. It was a small church. My husband and I attended it on a Sunday in 1992. I still remember the names of the pastor and his wife.

I have not lived in Oklahoma City since I was a toddler when my mother, divorcing my father, moved with me and one older brother to California. That was toward the end of WWII. [I was born in 1943.]

My wife [born in San Francisco] and I moved to Oklahoma in 1987 but we were about 100 miles north of Oklahoma City. We used to visit my father's church, the Agnew Pentecostal Holiness Church on Agnew in OKC periodically, but he passed away in 1992 and our reason to travel so far diminished. Even that church where several of my cousins still attend has moved to another location and changed its name. I do not recall the new name, but it is not the one you remember. We have not visited there in over 20 years.

I have a first cousin who was the Music Director of another large church, the name of which I do not recall, but it was not the one you named. He was born in 1934 and lives on still waiting hopefully on the God. I have not seen him in years. His younger brother who was also my friend died in 2020 with Covid-19 plus heart issues.

Near-total abortion bans are not something to praise God over. Even though Oklahoma's ban surpasses the one that was passed in Texas, it's still not good enough because it leaves the door open for an expecting mother to claim that the child is endangering her life. It seems that people in this thread need to be reminded that God said that harming an unborn child under any circumstances is murder.

Because people are people, people are still going to kill each other regardless of what a law says.
So yes it does help.
The desire to kill may be still in the women but the ability is thwarted to a large extent.
I do know some women will claim, mental insanity if they are forced to carry the baby to term, and some doctors will say she must have an abortion for her mental or health issues, I suppose.

True but never again will i accept "mental illness" as an excuse for anything after what they've done to us in the last 2 years.

They totally destroyed the lives of millions of people and brought mental illness to millions of people over this bs plandemic. They caused suicides, joblessness, homelessness and devestation to innocent people. They've discriminated against innocent people for not taking the stupid toxic needles. They've created a generation of hypochondriacs, mentally ill people. They forced people to die alone. They are guilty of countless crimes and their getting away with it.

So I don't believe them when they use the mental illness card. In fact I have lost all faith in the medical establishment and government, their nothing but snakes.

Mental illness has not been a concern of theirs in the past 2 years and never is.

Here I am forced to work in another state cos I'm unvaxed. Away from my family. Away from my friends. Away from my home town. This surely isnt the best for my mental health but they don't care. Yet they want to use mental health as an excuse to sacrifice babies. Screw them

Sorry about that rant. It wasn't aimed at you Scott. I got carried away but I meant what I said. They are evil

You're assuming. I didn't see any wording that left the door open. And I will praise God for any life that is saved. Still more work to do? Absolutely.

I am praising God for Oaklahoma's ban on abortion!!
I'm not sure that's great news sorry to say. There are horror stories of what girls do in such cases. But it is good news, just not great. :(

Way more girls are forced or coerced to get abortions thant those who actually want them. And Planned Parenthood has helped sexual predators hide their crimes by murdering the babies that were conceived by child rape. It is great news that abortions are banned in Oklahoma.

Whenever the abortion topic comes up i am reminded of this sculpture/memorial to the unborn.
And seeing we are talking about mental health as well i think it would be a good time to bring it up...

I can only imagine the devastation of realizing that you killed your child... Abortion regret

As i went to find this image i learned that there is now a second memorial sculpture that is just as beautiful as the first

Those sculptures are so moving they bring a tear to my eye

I can't help but wonder if that is like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted....? It's what causes the pregnancy that is the problem, not the elimination of the result. How can we stress that pregnancy can be prevented so that abortions will be unnecessary? Better access to birth control perhaps? Better and more permanent or reliable methods of birth control even?
dunno

Simply banning abortion will not stop unwanted pregnancy, but how do you protect a child, especially if they are unwanted and forced into an abusive home. Do we have any idea of how many children are born to toxic parents who simply don't want to be bothered with them?

It won't stop women or men from having unprotected sex....and opens it up the practice of backyard abortions.

If abortion is to be banned, then at least give the mother the option (with incentive) of going through with the pregnancy for a childless couple....?

Hi Aunty Jane are not contraceptives against Christianity laws? One should not be having promiscuous or lustful sex to begin with, that causes such pregnancies, the problem is men and women aren't involved in Church upbringings and don't teach their kids, and don't adhere to chastity and abstinence, we've become a Godless society parents don't teach their kids and even worse let their daughters do whatever and dress however, that's become the norm nowadays.

I believe abortion should be completely outlawed across the nation, not just certain States.
