Mine is definitely not a faith-based witnessing tool. It is a stupid pagan symbol that a girlfriend of mine adored. :(

:)
@BarnyFife Well, the advice to a heavily tattooed lady who joined the church my wife and I know was not to worry about it; and it can be done with a lot of social confidence now also, which is probably why many young ppl get Bible verses/ref.s inked in as reference tools.

Sometimes a bad tattoo can be changed or superseded; e.g., a Christian woman with the name of a non-Christian ex-bf tattooed ; e.g., 'BILL" could with the help of a good tattoo artist have it changed to say 'BIBLE', or whatever.

I guess there are all sorts of options and possibilities.....

And some ppl would also just leave it, as proof of how one's life has been changed by the grace of God....

(Sounds like your ex-gf was into tattoos also...)

If it works- go for it. I have quizzed folks with massive body art. Very careful to be harmless but asked them the whys of it. I have learned a lot from them.

@Ronald Nolette Good quote there from you.

It's unquestionably a resource that can be used as a talking point / witness tool, if the person wants to go for it and use it as such, right?

@BarnyFife Well, it's a pity she evidently does not share your spiritual interests now...

Some ppl - not a few young ppl - now use Bible verse tattoos to encourage an interest in spiritual things, of course...

(All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed that I have talked with seem to have had them done as witness tools, anyway...)

Absolutely. Christians should have a tool chest full of tools to be able to share the gospel. Tattoos however will not be in my chest! At 67 1/2 too old for that pain!

@Ronald Nolette

Tattooing can be such a resource with a lot of potential, anyway. The fact that it's such a socially confident thing to do is why so many conservative ppl use it now:

I am a nurse in a cardiac ICU. I am also pretty heavily tattooed. I am a well educated, well rounded nurse, and was raised with strong morals and manners. .. I am an extremely traditional person.

As GodsGrace said:
almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types.

So it's no wonder a lot of young Christians get Bible verses/ ref.s machined in.

(I saw a quote about a lot of older ppl doing it also...though it's not for everyone, like you say...)

I have no problem with someone else getting one, if they like. Wouldn't bother me a bit.

I used to get the temporary tattoos from bubble gum wrappers.
@Cassandra I wonder how many ppl who used to get temps. have subsequently gotten permanent ones done?

(A lot of young ppl now get Bible verses/ref.s tattooed...)

@Ziggy Well, it can be done with a lot of social confidence now, right? (Which is why a lot of young ppl seemingly get Bible verses done unhesitatingly as witness tools.)
Social confidence?

I don't pretend to know why people do the things they do, young or old.
I only "really don't know" why I got one either when I was in my 20's, other than that it was something to do at the time.
I don't even think I gave it a thought if it was sociably acceptable. And even if it wasn't I probably would of got it anyways.

There are a lot of tatoos and a lot of symbols in the world. And some are taken in and out of context.
And unless you know the heart of the person wearing one, you won't really know what it means to them personally.

I'm not judging one way or the other. and today's "social confidence" doesn't have much merit. In my opinion.

When you can garner "social confidence" for burning businesses and shooting people in the streets,
then all I can say is, we have a problem where our priorities lie.

Hugs

Tattoos are a desecration of God's temple, I am guilty for such crimes and repent and beg for mercy, I would have them removed but can't afford it, so I'm stuck with them.

FYI @Mink57 thread I started, sorry the poll expired already. (You're from Vegas, right? I think there are lots of good tattoo parlors there...)
LOL! Yes, I live in Vegas right now...wanting to move. And yes, there are quite a few tattoo parlors here.

While I'm not so much into tattoos, I DO appreciate the artistry of some to be amazing.

@Mink57 My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it certainly makes for a conversation-starter/talking point. All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed that I have talked with seem to have had them done as conversation tools.

Yes, there is a lot of amazing artwork, like you say....

Yeah, it's kind of a shame...Kind of like, having the words, "Do unto others..." tattooed on some part of your body, and then not adhering to the message.

@Mink57 Well, I guess it can be both like a personal reminder and also a conversation tool for others.....

I think that in the Vegas parlors you can probably go in and admire the artwork in portfolios, without obligation, anyway.
