Thank you all for your sincere response. Personally, I'm conflicted in my thoughts about being a true Christian. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior and I try to walk in his footsteps but often fall out of step, therefore, I cannot call myself a true Christian. How do I reconcile this? Or is this even possible?

Surrender. Stop approaching sin from the outside - you cannot stop it! Start loving abundantly....love, love, love! Serve others and lean on the HS! Loving other starts by surrendering your false self - let down your defenses and let the HS teach you and you will realized how deeply He loves you and you will be able to love others, not for yourself (self love by using others), but love with not strings attached and no ego.

Perfect love stamps out sin / produces fruit - like righteousness and morality.

Drop that fig leaf (false self) and run free like the loved creation you are!!!

This is why I asked for you to tell me what a true Scotsman is.

The story goes something like this, "A Scott goes somewhere and does something or says something. Another Scott sees or hears this, and says, "NO true Scottsman would do..... or say......." ".

See, The original man was born and raised in Scotland, same as the second guy. The difference is, the second guy had a long set of do's and don'ts that would show and declare that you were infact a "True Scottsman". If anything else was done meant you weren't true.

As a Christian you don't have a definitive as much as you would think. You are on your own path and you are an individual. The Lord knows your heart and is dealing with you in such away that only He knows how.

Everyone of us who follows Christ has faults of our own. You may not have a problem with cussing, but maybe I do. But, you may have a problem with anger and I don't. See? Theoretically, No "True Christian" would ever have such problems. However, we are and we do.

Hey Josant. It's simple really, and so very beautiful! You are a Christian because Christ called you. You are a Christian because of the grace He has given you. Nothing that you did, or do...good or bad, has either earned you grace or make Him turn His back on you. Of course failing to walk the narrow path grieves Jesus, but He has promised to always steer us back to Him, and to keep us safe in His arms. You are a Christian Josant. It's not dependant on your strength or perfections...it's dependant on Christ's. Isn't that wonderful!?

It's a process, it's not over until it's over. God is merciful and when we stumble, we repent and we start running the race again, as we mature in Christ, He is transforming us by the renewing our minds and He is perfecting us! We pick up our cross daily and put to death our fleshy desires, as we learn to walk in the Spirit, we learn to rejoice in all things, we are tested, we learn, we grow in our faith. Again, it's a process!

Keep up the good fight, brother!

To me a true Christian understands and believes that they are sinners but are saved by the sacrfice and grace of Jesus Christ under the mercy of God YHWH. In knowing, confessing and believing in Jesus they obey His word and live holy lives consecrated to Him alone. They receive the Holy Spirit and allow Him to operate, dwell, fill, empower and control their lives. They live in the love of Christ and show it to others and live the gospel of Jesus Christ as well as talk it. They also believe that the bible is the word of God given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit through holy men who wrote the bible.

Love is the gospel, our sanctification, God's Will for our lives and our salvation. It is that easy to understand and that difficult to perform. Love is what confounds the proud and the rulers and the scientists. Love is why we were created and forgot how to do after we turned to self-love. The Pharisees had all the qualities of the Tinman and none of the Scarecrow or Lion........

Jesus tried to simplify it for us he said "love the Lord God with all your being and love your neighbours as yourself".
