@Johann

I do appreciate your post.

You're in South Africa, right?

In North America it's very widespread. This is from the Bible Belt:

Yes, I am in South Africa farouk, my question is..

How many of the tattooed believers are really believers in Christ Jesus, very simple.

@Johann Put it this way; regarding the young lady that my wife and I talked to who said that John 3.16 was her favorite Bible verse, which was tattooed on her wrist area, I would be very hard pressed to be expected to say that she was not a believer.

It is not for us to judge, by their fruit they shall be known farouk.

@Johann Good point there....

All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done as witness tools, anyway.

Rom_12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2Co_6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Col_2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

What is esteemed as "normal" in this world is an abomination in the eyes of God farouk.
Speaking from experience.
Shalom

@Johann Great verses there, indeed.

I would be hard pressed to challenge the faith motivation of - for example - a John 3.16 tattoo which may bring reproach from ppl in the world, mind you.

If a tattoo was a starting point in getting someone saved I think it’s a good thing.
@Michiah-Imla Context is also a factor, right?

Like the person might be generally familiar with the verse; but if a young man or woman knows another young man or woman who gets a John 3.16 tattoo, then the conversation and testimony of it might prove to be effective.

You make good points @farouk
@Michiah-Imla

It's actually rather widespread.

This is from the Bible Belt:

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

I can see why some believers choose to get tattoos, but idk if it's God's leading ....or just their own leading. But like @Johann stated, I'm not their judge. I think there are some instances, such as the girl who was forcefully marked, carved, and tattooed ..who after her conversion, wanted those marks covered over with something that represented her new life. Had she never been marked/carved/tattooed by her handlers, she may not have chosen to be tattooed. See what I'm saying?

And like my oldest daughter who got a tattoo when she was away from the Lord ...I can understand why she wanted the name of her daughter (who was stolen) tattooed across her chest over her heart. To me, that was brave because it's a reminder of her daughter who was taken. But that's a mother's heart for her child. But does that mean I advocate getting tattooed? No, it does not. It just means I can look at the actions of others and see past the actions to the "why." See what I'm saying? It's the person we love .... not the tattoo.

Mrs. Johann?
My dear wife passed away about two years ago, still grieving.
J.
God bless you, dear brother. I'm sorry for your loss. (I understand, as I am still grieving my son's homegoing 2 and a half years ago. He was 17 and he had a faith in Jesus that was unshakeable.)
