If Catholicism and the Church of England are the same, I'm Mary Poppins!
For example Catholicism bans women priests, but the Church of England doesn't..:)

Thanks. The reason I ask is because @Brakelite says otherwise. He claims the head of the church of England is in Rome but this is false from my understanding
It could be that some things have not been changed on paper ,while in reality and practice they have changed completely. A bit like the old laws that exists, but because society has change they are no longer applicable.
As far as I am concerned, as a citizen of the U.K. the Pope has no authority within the Anglican Church.

I didn't say they were the same. I was talking about legal political and religious authority. It doesn't mean that the authority is exercised.

The reality of the Queen's Jubilee as viewed by a London journalist previously for the Midlands, Nottingham.

I tend to agree with his perspective and he calls it,
The Strange Jubilee

I can't listen to it as my speakers don't work. What is the gist of it?

Paul says that the Jubilee was more like a wake and it commemorated what the UK, with the Queen at the helm, how it used to be, and now is gone. Minority Mayors raising the Iranian flag atop of city squares like in Lancashire and not the Union Jack. London filled for the half week with mostly white faces who show up to celebrate the event and ironically absent in the crowds are the illegal immigrants and other legal minorities who really don't care about the event. People more and more apologizing for being British or English....and it will be even more obvious in the 10 year celebration he says...that the event is meaningless...

Quite cynical then.

I don't know anybody that doesn't love our queen. But obviously things have changed over the years since she became queen. Our country has always been open to those of other faiths and nationalities. When I was girl there were Polish, Chinese, Jamaicans and Italians and these days there are many more from eastern Europe and even further afield and now from Ukraine Not everybody welcomes them but our queen is a Christian and has been very supportive of our multi-racial society.

The monarchy has changed too and the younger royals are much more informal like some of the continental monarchs have been for years. The queen is 96 and quite right to step aside and let some of her family take more responsibility. She deserves to have some me time with her horses and dogs in her comfy clothes. And I hope she will enjoy her private life more than ever now.

No one was forced to celebrate, it was optional. We didn’t have any street parties where I live. I didn’t wave a Union Jack but I watched the celebrations and enjoyed the events. Of course people were looking back over the decades, and for many it was about nostalgia , memories ect because the older generations over here remember the coronation.
Our country has changed, we are diverse, but every country has changed. Sometimes change is a good thing.
Personally I think quite a few things will change when a new royal takes over, but I tend to think there will be more people who will not be interested in the monarchy…….

Of course there were Ukraine flags flying , they had an important world cup football match over here during the jubilee celebrations.( one of the points he raised )
Rain…..does it rain over here a lot, now that is a British thing for sure.
There will always be different prospectives on events and interpretations of ‘ how things are ‘ ………..always will be differing opinions, negative and positives.
As a Brit I enjoyed the celebrations, as a Brit, I like my country , as a Brit I always have an umbrella close by !! Lol

Fellow Brits and friends from other nations.

That’s thoughtful of you as a Subject of Englands Crown to pay tribute to Your Queen.

It is well known Servants of the Crown are elected to the Parliament to conduct the daily governing issues.

Your Queen at any time retains the Authority to assume Her Position as Monarch, and conduct the daily Parliament governing issues.

Your Queen has chosen to leave that grueling task to others.

However Every BILL the English Parliament wishes to present for Consideration it become a LAW, goes through a customary voting process in Parliament...
BEFORE it Becomes a LAW...the head honcho must SIGN the BILL...

That head honcho....IS Your Queen.
Your 1967 Abortions Act...legalizing Abortions...signed by your Queen.
Your 1967 Sexual Offenses Act....legalizing Homosexuality....signed by your Queen.
The most Recent...Covid Lockdowns, and all the negative restrictions on “her Servants”...Laws signed by your Queen.

Kings and Queens conjour up Fairytale thoughts of pomp, royalty, luxury, pedestals, castles, crowns and such....however in any Nation there is a head that holds the full responsibility and accountability of deciding the Laws of that Nation. IN the UK, that head is your Queen.

She personally may trust and believe and submit to Christ Jesus...
which is one thing...
Another thing, as one who is the Head of a Nation, of a Church...
According to Scripture...
Their DUTY is to RULE according to the heads OWN MASTER. If that Be Christ Jesus,
...Does Christ Jesus stamp His approval on Abortions, stamp His Approval Homosexuality?

Pretty sticky subjects to get tangled in.

The Queen had no power to veto the Abortion Bill 1967.

Her vetoing power, by refusing royal assent, is only permitted by law in the rarest of circumstances such as a constitutional crisis.

It is true that the Queen meticulously keeps up with the business of Parliament so that, in theory, if there ever were a constitutional crisis, she would be ready and properly advised to act, if necessary.

The Queen usually signs Letters Patent which allow the Speakers of the two Houses to announce the royal assent. However, she signs them for a whole lot of bills in one go, and is only given a list of the names of the Bills, not the texts or even the long titles.

She thus does not know the details of the Bills she is "assenting" to and is not expected to. That is because the process of assent, save in the rarest of situations such as a constitutional crisis, is now not much more than a ceremonial ritual.

The Queen is not even given a copy of the Bills and neither is the Palace. That is not just because she knows that both Houses of Parliament will already have considered the Bill very carefully but rather because she has no power to veto any of the Bills, save in constitutional emergency.

Veto Power, IF, Parliament says it’s okay.
Monarch Power, IF, Parliament says it’s okay.
Signs WHEN, Parliament says it’s okay.
Needs not to know the effects upon the peoplel of what she is signing.
A pretense fairytale figure head, with Strings attached.

Seems the English Subjects Like the manifested fairytale pomp and grandeur.
Thanks for sharing.

I feel sorry for the Queen when she has to knight idiots, you'd think she'd say to her courtiers "I'm certainly not knighting that one!"

I have never looked upon the Queen as being in charge, but she is part of the culture here and it’s something you can only really get if you live within this culture.
Its surely the same as me endeavouring to understand gun culture in the US, I don’t live there so I can only view things from an outside prospective. However sometimes the outside prospective sees something that might be missed because the citizen of that country has been brought up with something and just accepts it’s how it is. ……
I do get what you are saying, but most of the time I am not into all pomp and grandeur, but on this occasion I admit I liked it. It’s a bit like my attitude to football, I don’t really like it but if England are playing in a European cup or World Cup, I become patriotic along with many others.
I am going to have Sandy shaw song on my mind now ‘ Puppet on a string ‘! Lol

I get the culture thing, see it here in the US, for all kinds of things, and have never been a fan of following the crowd. I see thousands of people gathering in a crowd, filling the streets, filling a square, and think where did they park their vehicles and where are the bathrooms...lol

@Rita @Pearl and any other poms

I never understood why you guys love the royal family so much. Iv seen poms get so angry at people criticizing the queen that they will fight over it. Well i watched something recently which i think helped me understand the fondness that British people have towards the royal family.
The guy talking on this video said it is about patriotism, the identity of being British in an age where its a crime to be white. And considering that immigration of other cultures has diluted the British culture i can understand your fondness for the royal family. It was also a great gathering, a celebration which was needed after 2 and a half years of this covid crap, everyone is fed up with that, right. So such a party is a welcome relief for you poms. We need something like that here to unite Aussies

I heard the woke left were triggered by all the union jacks in the parade. Well screw them.
Over here they wanted to dose the union jack in Aboriginal blood. They didn't but this is the kind of sick stuff they want to do. They want to eradicate western culture.
Australia day has been hyjacked over here, its now "invasion day". Total BS considering the Aboriginals sold this land to the English.
Western culture is being attacked from every angle. The British royal family is a symbol of that and of the rich history of Britain so i say good on you guys for sticking to your guns.

PS... Aussies will still beat you guys in cricket but...:p

I'm not a particular fan of the wider royal family but our Queen has hardly ever put a foot wrong and most of us love her. And not just the older ones. Of course in any society there are the nay-sayers and stirrers up of trouble and dissent.
And PS.. We did win the Ashes one year but not for a while.
