Fear is bondage aspen...

And there's no freedom in Christ for us if our biggest fear is people finding out the truth of us.

That's what I told the pastor's wife at the old church I went to when she accused me of being deceived by the devil when I told her why I didn't want to go to their church anymore.

I was like, "Your families biggest fear is people finding out the truth about you... so how are you going to lead me into the truth... when your biggest fear is the truth..."

Freedom does not come from going against God.

2 Peter 2:19
They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.

If you want to overcome something, overcome the world.

1 John 5:4
For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith.

It's a lot more than that. The other parts of our freedom we will not receive until Jesus returns.

Very true.....a person who does not understand the concept of freedom, does not want it or is in fear of it cannot teach or even liberate others that are not free.

I think it's hard for us to really grasp the concept of "freedom in Christ" until we understand just how enslaved and lost to sin we were before Him. It's probably something that we won't fully understand until we stand before God, but we can glimpse it in what Jesus had to endure for us in gaining that freedom. His physical death was one that was horrifying. Of all the agonising ways to die, that is probably one of the worst. Painful, shameful and long. I often wonder...what was the worst part for Jesus...the physical pain, or the moment when He took the sins of the world on His shoulders and the Father turned away from Him. That moment, when He was completely alone in that shame. Man, that cuts me. But then, we must also remember that it was not just His death on the cross that was monumental. Jesus Christ gave up glory to become human. We can't really know what it's like to be God, but I can imagine that the difference was vast!
We know that every bad thing in this world is the direct result of sin. Our sin, others sin, the wearing of sin on a fallen world. I think of all the struggles in my life, and know the weight of sin in my limited capacity. Freedom in Christ means I don't have to focus on all those things...I don't need to lose sleep to them, I don't need to let sin rule and shape my life, direct me where to go. I only need to focus on Jesus and know that all rests perfectly in His hands. I know that at the end of all things when I stand before the throne, Jesus will stand beside me and offer His perfect righteousness for my sinful mistakes and rebellion. I cannot earn my salvation, but by golly, for everything that Jesus has done for me, I'll spend every moment of my life trying to show just how much I'm thankful for it!!

That is true Aspen, we are free from the condemnation that comes from sin. James 1:15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death. God has offered mankind a freedom from such condemnation. We can attain to life everlasting through Christ and because of that, we have no need to fear.

However, to the jewish audience whom Paul was speaking, they would have understood what he meant as freedom from the mosaic law code and its regulations. Christ set them free from the law so to them, that was a great cause for rejoicing. Galatians 5:1 For such freedom Christ set us free. Therefore stand fast, and do not let yourselves be confined again in a yoke of slavery...I bear witness again to every man getting circumcised that he is under obligation to perform the whole Law. 4 YOU are parted from Christ, whoever YOU are that try to be declared righteous by means of law; YOU have fallen away from his undeserved kindness
So freedom in Christ means several things...freedom from works of law, freedom from sin, and freedom from death due to the future hope of everlasting life.

Well Pegg, I must say that I would have said it nearly the same, but without the NWT.

Jesus died for everyone....and not just those who repented. All people's sins have been forgiven. It just means that not everyone has repented.

2 Corinthians 5:15 (Darby)
[sup]15 [/sup]and he died for all, that they who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who died for them and has been raised.

2 Corinthians 5:14 (GW)
[sup]14 [/sup]Clearly, Christ's love guides us. We are convinced of the fact that one man has died for all people. Therefore, all people have died.

I think the response sequence was basically:

Robbie: ... setting us free from the consequences of our imperfections ...

Duckybill: Only for those who repent. Those who live in sin haven't repented.

For the gift of salvation is not for those who only hear GOD's voice, but to those who open the door and sup with HIM. (Ref. Rev. 3:20)

2 Corinthians 5: 14,15 clearly tells us that Jesus died for all. And even Jesus said that when He is lifted up (indicating the kind of death He would go through) He would draw all men to Himself. All means all.....His death paid for the sins of all people.....all people's sins have been forgiven. The reason why most people have not repented is that God has not granted them repentance at this time.....but the masses time will come when God see that it is time.

we are not set free from the 'consequences' of sin

If we do something wrong, we will still suffer the consequences.

Yes!

For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. [sup]21[/sup] For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,[sup][f][/sup] leaving us[sup][g][/sup] an example, that you should follow His steps

I am amazed that so many have swallowed Satan's deception that everyone will be saved. Satan has been busy.

1 Timothy 4:1 (NKJV)
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

... He would draw all men to Himself. ...

I'm quite certain that a horse may be drawn to water, but that doesn't guarantee it'll drink. And so too each man is drawn by the unction of his own conscience, but many harden their hearts and thereby fall short.

That is not the point. Jesus clearly said He would draw all to Himself when He is crucified.......it has to do with what He did not what we have to do.
