I still believe in the spiritual gifts set in order in the church by the Spirit as he will.

1 Cor.14:19-25 ( context )
V.22 therefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth NOT for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

This is why ppl say tongues are not for today.....v.23 if therefore the WHOLE CHURCH be come together in ONE PLACE,and ALL speak with tongues, and there come in THOSE THAT ARE UNLEARNED,OR UNBELIEVERS, WILL THEY NOT SAY YE ARE MAD.......[ it's fake,not real,been done away with, ect.]

Now PROPHESY, or if God speaks through one person for the benefit of the body or one in the body, this does not IMO make them A PROPHET but rather a yeilded vessel that the Spirit will and can use.
I have had God speak TO ME or reveal something he required or wanted me to follow to be in his will, and I have had another CONFIRM what God has already told me. Isn't this prophesy of the Spirit ?

The gifts of the Spirit or his work in a body of believers is not THAT PERSONS OWN GIFT but is a working of the Spirit.

I do not believe God has modern day called prophets,they ceased after John ,who was in the spirit of Elijah and Christ's forerunner, all the others spoke on God's behalf to Israel.
We have preachers,teachers ministers,evangelists to spread the word today.

Well, I would tend to "when that which is perfect is come" in 1 Cor. 13 meaning the completion of Scripture.

This passage is at least remotely plausible to the Cessationist argument and it's what I was referring to, but it's still a colossal mess. When I come back, I'll show you how the context that surrounds that passage demonstrates that the Cessationist position makes some flawed assumptions. Doing so involves extensive use of scripture and necessitates covering Chapters 12, 13 and 14 to fully understand the context, but I don't have a lot to do today so I'll see if I can get to it later.

I think more and more people are waking up to the fact that the war in Ukraine is a black hole we are sending our future down. I pass judgment on no one. Yesterday I think it was that I told someone I would stand alone to be judged of Christ and he will stand with me before the Father.
I will give account of ONLY my own record, not another's and neither will another give account for me.

We look at how Jesus was while here on earth, he was NOT always upbraiding ppl for what they said they believed. He gave the truth and it is up to the individual to decide how to respond.( Samaritan woman at the well )
How about when Jesus said to one it's not good to take the masters bread and give it to the dogs. Replied back was yes but even the dogs eat of the crumbs from the masters bread that falls to the ground !

Well amigo....It sounds good.....But I am not sure that you believe that.....hope not.
What you read in the Bible we call the Word of God.....but there was a hand that put the ink to the paper.....nothing man touches is perfect. Now if you get a revelation from God.....that trumps the Bible.....even if it contradicts the Bible.

Case in point....Yeshua is a God....and from His mouth He took exception and made correction to the Mosaic Law. Depending on how you look at it that was not only a contradiction, a correction, and a addition. There is no reason to suspect that He does not have more to say.

Then Paul made it clear that we are not under the Law.

Christ told the slaves to be obedient to their masters.....well past the biblical era the Holy Spirit contradict this and taught us that slavery was bad.

There is no requirement in the Bible for a wedding ceremony but the Holy Spirit taught us that wedding ceremonies were needed and a good thing and the Protestants made it official being the first to require a wedding ceremony to be married in the 1500's.

Christianity practiced polygamy and concubinage for some time after the biblical era....but the Holy Spirit taught us that was wrong.
The Jews that had multiple wives were never turned away from Christianity...it is one of the reasons that Paul had to stipulate that if you wanted to be in church administration, you had to be the husband of one wife.

The Bible tells us that women should not have authority over men and not speak in church....and that is something else the Holy Spirit changed......Now we do have some denominations that hold women as second rate citizens and members of the church. The whole women should know their place thing, under subjugation of the husband....I would not give you dime for the whole lot.

I am sure that there are many things that the Holy Spirit has to teach us, even yet. God did not retire at the close of the biblical era, He did not even skip a beat....more to come.

So odd how this post came up. We've been working on doing messages on the gifts of the spirit. So far, we've done discerning of spirits and the gift of faith but tongues will be coming up soon.
I do believe in speaking in tongues and believe that a lot of people get the gift of tongues and speaking in tongues (as a prayer language) confused.

I know someone with the actual "gift of tongues" who told a story of how he did not know a word of French and suddenly started speaking it with no clue that's what he was doing. He was immediately approached by a non-believer who asked where he learned to speak the language so fluently. Needless to say, the non-believer was shocked to learn that the person God manifested this gift in had never learned French and the word that came forward from him was a specifically for the non-believer. This is a perfect demonstration of how the gift is supposed to work.

The prayer language (speaking in tongues) is entirely different and serves a very different purpose. I think it is called the women's suffrage movement. Women's rights--ERA. And that is the way it works.

Women's suffrage was about women being able to vote. It shouldn't change anything about women leading in the pulpit. You don't have to be in a pulpit and in front of people to be equal to men. Those who would be first in the Kingdom must be servants.

When Paul wrote to Timothy about that, he took it back to Genesis when Eve was mislead by the serpent. Thats why it should stand today. It has nothing to do with women's suffrage or women's rights. God designed us to be in submission to our husbands. That doesn't change because of feminism. Feminism and women's rights are not the Holy Spirit.

Well I disagree. And I do not blame Eve for the fall in the garden....two people two decisions. And I am talking about what the Holy Spirit has taught us since the Bible.....Old Testament....you planning on selling your daughters as a sex slave....concubinage. The Holy Spirit instill a Christian conscience to discern such things.....slavery is wrong....wedding ceremonies are right. Polygamy is wrong, monogamy is right. Submissive....submissive to each other.

Valuable lesson learned on my part.......
Treating ppl right was the second greatest commandment coming after loving God with all.
