I know tattooing is addictive as well as piercings so ppl used this as a form of control in their lives, especially if they are excessively tattooed. He has many tats and piercings

@L3astAm0ngManyB13ss3d As regards a person's past that s/he hasn't told us about, it's easy to make assumptions although perhaps best not to make too many assumptions.

There is a sense in which as a professional tattoo artist who also does piercings it may reasonably thought that he would likely have some himself, of course.

Where you say
I know tattooing is addictive as well as piercings
this does show maybe that ppl - including even yourself - indeed have discovered that they quite enjoy the experience of getting tattoos and piercings so it's naturally to go back for more.

The only way I have to test this is I have close relatives whom have multiple tattoos who have said what I stated aside from the fact they like body art.

My son was a heavy IV drug abuser and some he got to cover needle tracks, others he stated it was a control in his life over which he had lost during his time with Satan to mark his body.

My daughter has a lions head the size of a LG dinner plate on her upper thigh in front bc she's a Leo. She only has a smaller on on her lateral upper back of a moon. My grand just got her first on her rib cage of a flower. She is 19,has a nose and ear piercings.

@L3astAm0ngManyB13ss3d If she is 19, it's not surprising that your granddaughter has piercings and a new tattoo - her first: it's what her contemporaries expect widely to do.

So did she have any known response to the fact that her grandmother also received recently her first tattoos?

I'm quite sure it would make me think about the content. I know I've seen a ton of bumper stickers with faith-related messages on them (kind of like a "tattoo" on a car? --but not as permanent, though even tattoos can be removed with what I hear is much trouble). I do think about the messages and if I agree with them or not.

@dhh712 Well, removal is less likely to be an option if the sort of painstaking preparation and planning of the sort that @L3astAm0ngManyB13ss3d has been talking about in her recent posts has occurred.

Then again, sometimes if the reason for a cover up is compelling, an artist can often work wonders; some artist are highly skilled. E.g., a Christian woman with the name of a non-Christian ex-bf tattooed might opt for an artist to change is, such as having 'BILL' changed to 'BIBLE', in order to reflect new found convictions rather than be 'condemned' to display an association from a period of life from which she has by faith moved on from.

I get the tat thing. Just not my thing.

@Taken

Yes, it's very much an individual urge to avail oneself of.

Like MetalMike says, it's something that comes at different times to a lot of ppl at their own pace:

MetalMike said:
My oldest daughter has multiple tattoos. My wife has a butterfly on the top of her foot...They had their tattoos for a few years before I got mine. I wasn't that interested in one at the time, and I wanted to do one that was meaningful and not one I would regret later...I got a tattoo back in '08. It's a cross on my forearm with a banner

Tattoos aren't for me, but I have no problem if ithers want them.
@Ronald Nolette Some parents may be dead against tattoos. Well, fine.

At the same time, in their adolescents' run up to 18, it's probably wise - whatever their personal preferences may be - to give a bit of advice about what to try to avoid if a tattoo is eventually to be considered, since a blanket "No! No!" can easily lead to a knee-jerk reaction on the part of the adolescents who might then just go to the parlor anyway, but bereft of sensible guidelines.

I'm sure I have run across them and just have forgotten about it. I'm quite sure it would make me think about the content.
PS: @dhh712 Do you think it would help if more Christians worked in tattoo parlors? like, the whole area of faith based tattoo designs is big, but could be expanded greatly still.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. Christians in all areas of work would be a help. I think it would definitely help to have Christian-themed tattoos on display for people to think about getting. If I'm going to see a tattoo, I'd sure want to see a faith-based one over any other.

@dhh712 Thanks for the comment. Yes; it's a skill that can be combined with ear piercing (which is always in demand) and if you've ever been in a parlor they have portfolios with the artist's tattoo designs available for display, with no obligation. If, then, the artist specialized in faith designs, you can just imagine the potential.

All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed, with whom I have spoken, seem to have had them done for witness tool reasons, anyway.

So you can see why for young Christians at the big 18 getting a faith based tattoo can seem so compelling to them...?

It is at the pointy end of rebelling against God and those who would have advised them otherwise, like their parents.

Rebelling against God does have its consequences that they must live with for the rest of their lives and it could be deadly.

As long as a child is in their parents home, no matter the age, they are under their parents rules.

@Ronald Nolette Oh I agree very strongly! Yes, indeed.

What I think was going through my mind was that if at 16 or 17 parents keep on saying "No! No! No! No!" to something like a faith based tattoo, then when the big 18 comes round, and they leave home, etc., all those "No! No! No! No!" are likely in some cases to evoke a strong reaction.

Whereas if the line taken, is, "Well, Nick / Nikki, it's not my preference at all but IF you get a tattoo beyond your 18th, make sure about the design, and the placement, and the inspection of the tattoo parlor, and find out if dress codes at your place of work will require long sleeves, etc....", wise and sensible preparatory advice is perhaps more likely to be listened to.

But yes, I agree about what you say for under-18s respecting parents while under their roof.

(All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have received them for witness tool reasons, anyway.)

................ Religious tats, simply implies at a quick glance something about the individuals associations and likings.
@Taken Yes, they can serve to provide a lead-in to conversations with ppl.

(Which is probably the exact reason why all the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken have gotten their faith based inkings in the first place.....)

I believe all those over 18 as well. If they want the liberty to make their own decisions in many areas- they should establish their own home. But when we choose to live under someone elses roof- we agree to submit to their authority. If the authority is unreasonable, we can make an appeal, but if they say no- we either submit or leave.

@dhh712

As GodsGrace said:
almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types.

I am a nurse in a cardiac ICU. I am also pretty heavily tattooed. I am a well educated, well rounded nurse, and was raised with strong morals and manners. .. I am an extremely traditional person. Since it's clear that getting tattooed is something that many very conservative and traditional ppl are very open to doing, then clearly also resources about faith based tattoos represent a huge potential for faith based designs.
