Worth repeating? (from post #48)

There seems to be some confusion about the different kinds/uses of tongues.
A personal prayer language is different than a word in tongues delivered to a congregation.
(the spiritual Gift of tongues and the interpretation of a congregational message in tongues)

Five Different Uses of Tongues
1) Personal prayer language (worship/edification)
2) Intercessory prayer language (praying for others in the Spirit)
3) A prophetic message for a congregation (the Gift of tongues)
4) Warfare prayer in the Spirit (let the Spirit fight for you)
5) Evangelistic language (like at Pentecost)

There are more uses...

6) Singing in the Spirit (worship) See 1 Corinthians 14:15

Warms the heart . . .

1Co 14:18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.

phenomenon is not the word used in scripture

"spiritual" is the correct word
Obviously, things that are of God are spiritual in nature. For the last time, please define the meaning of "speaking in tongues" BECAUSE from God's perspective, you have no clue as to what it is.

But let me give you a hint and perhaps you might see it? Please read
1 Corinthians 14:18-29, and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and understanding.

HAS ANYONE EVER WONDERED WHY THE "TONGUES PHENOMENON" ONLY OCCURRED IN THE CHURCH OF CORINTH, AND THAT PAUL SPOKE WITH TONGUES MORE THAN ANYONE?

Please don't anybody say because of the women being disorderly in the congregation.

speaking in tongues is speaking in known human languages which are not known by the speaker.

God's perspective is found in Acts and 1 Corinthians.

Your perspective is not.

Evidence of your lack is that you "wonder why the Apostle Paul spoke in tongues more then you all"

You are currently shortsighted as to why God lovingly bestows His Spiritual Gifts including tongues.

Of course it is easy to point out the misuse of any Gift, most especially tongues.

God has not changed His desire for us to be fully equipped for battle against the wiles of the devil.

Is there anyone here that claims to speak the cloven tongue that does NOT believe in a Pre-tribulational Rapture?

Here's a YouTube video about manifestations in some Churches. Such things are not from God nor The Holy Spirit...

problem related to praying in tongues

Matthew 6:6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Matt 26:36
Then Jesus came with them to a garden called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples: "Sit down here while I go and pray yonder."

Source: Search: "pray garden"

Praying like in Pentecostal / Charismatic Churches violates the teaching of Jesus above.
Yes this is true. Prayer is personal. Prayer does not make things happen like praying for a car park at the shopping center. This is fallacy.

We pray when we are defeated.

Good question, thanks.
Warfare prayer in the Spirit gives us "eyes" into the unseen realm.
The Holy Spirit intercedes for us using the PERFECT words to defeat the enemy.

Romans 8:26 NIV
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for,
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Ephesians 6:12 NIV
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

The manifestation of tongues occurred in other places than Corinth. And even there, the Apostle did not forbid the practice.
"Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues." - 1 Corinthians 14:39 NIV

- There was an outpouring at the house of Cornelius, in Caesarea. (Acts chapter10)

- The disciples in Ephesus received the Baptism with the Holy Spirit with evidence of tongues and prophecy. (Acts chapter19)

- And obviously in Jerusalem in the initial outpouring.

- Samaria, as well. Although the word tongues is not used. (Acts chapter 8)
I did a topic on this subject. Link below.

That actually works for me. - LOL
No way to prove it though, I suppose. However...

My position is that God cares about the little things too. I ask God to walk with me during my day,
The very hairs on my head are all numbered. A sparrow does not fall without his notice. (Luke 12:6-7)

This battle against tongues comes from the Cessationist position on tongues.
As soon as someone starts talking about "sign gifts", you can be pretty certain they have fallen prey to that position.

There would be no need for all the instruction we have about spiritual gifts
(manifestations of the Spirit) if they were not for us to use today.

The end of first Corinthians chapter twelve refers to the gifts as body parts.
The Cessationists are turning the Body of Christ into an amputee!
