Why was "the Tree" placed in the center of the garden (orchard)​

The forbidden tree placed where it had to be confronted often.

Why was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil
placed in the center (midst) of the orchard (garden) of Eden?

Interestingly, Adam and Eve had to be deceived to "eat thereof".

It seems they had no intention of eating from the forbidden tree.

What was going on here?

Whether you take the story as literal or figurative, it begs many questions.

The Creator, being sovereign, created angels with the ability to choose, choose who they enter and what they do in them. Many of us I'm sure have seen this first hand.

The Creator, being sovereign, created humans with the ability to choose, choose what we do. We've observed and experienced this first hand.

The Creator first chose to make a plan that incorporated our ability to choose. In fact requires our ability to choose or His plan would not be carried out. As Moses details in the writings in Genesis. Satan chose to engage in conversation with Eve. He chose to tempt her. Eve chose to listen and eat. Adam chose to follow Eve's action. Their Creator chose to curse them with individualised curses according to what they chose to do.

Everyone seemed to be making choices. As is the case to this very moment.

Has the Creator lost control and His ability to choose what He desires. Because surely He can't desire this mess we find ourself in. Or does He?

If He does then what happened in the early stage of this creation was according to His will, His plan, His script. And angelic and human choices are fulfilling His plan.

Why would the sovereign Creator set up such a stage with its props and actors? All with the ability to corrupt what He said was good, very good.

And He introduced, either caused or gave permission, to a being with the ability to tempt the humans.

Yes, the Creator thought up, designed, created and positioned a tree which had the potential to cause humans to disobey Him. As you highlighted, He put it in the middle of the garden where they would see it regularly.

Did the naive humans with the ability to choose, stand any chance of not eating the fruit on this tree over time? If their Creator stayed with them all day and night, never leaving them, then they stood a great chance of being loyal and obedient to Him.

But Creator did leave them alone with Satan who over time convinced Eve to try the forbidden fruit.

Surely the all knowing Creator foresaw what was going to happen and with His ability to choose, chose to allow humans to choose to disobey Him.

The Creators want to reveal Themselves and so They are in this ongoing drama which we find ourselves being a part of. From the first humans of which They said, Let Us make man in Our image and Our likeness.

The mercy and grace of Father expressed through His Son Jesus's death. His patience and longsuffering displayed over thousands of years with us humans, and who knows how long with Satan and his angels.

These characteristics of the God would not have been made known to humans without humans causing an offence and sin. For by one human sin entered into the world. Then, by One man grace, forgiveness, redemption, reconciliation was demonstrated to what was created.
For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. Romans 5:15

Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Peter, Paul, Stephen, John, Jesus experienced their God communicating with them. Why is it a strange thing for other humans to experience the same?

Sure, Satan or other spirits communicated with Joseph Smith, charles Russel, David Karesh, Jim Jones, Adam and Eve. In fact, along with these, probably most humans too. Yet God spoke to Adam and Eve as did Satan, even on the same day.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

Just because someone hears from an evil spirit, it doesn't mean they cannot hear from Holy Spirit.

Again, God put the tree of knowledge of G & E in His garden. Then said to the humans not to eat of it. Satan said to the same humans, eat of it.

Don't you hear the Spirit of Truth communicate with you? And what He says doesn't originate from the scriptures?

Some have thought this and even gone to the extent of saying that all truth is in the scriptures. Now that is something evil spirits would say.

Every word that comes from the mouth of God definatly couldn't be contained in the limited volume of words contained in the scriptures. So it is far far far from being an exhaustive collection of recorded truths.

I fully agree we can hear from the Holy spirit! He still speaks. but He will not give any extra- biblical teachings or unveil "new doctrine". He can warn of impending dangers and such, but never contradict Scripture.
