BRETHREN IN CHRIST:
For you brethren, I will detail a bit more the Psalms 2 and Revelation 2 Scripture I posted above to Jay Ross, which he obviously does not believe is enough to prove the "thousand years" future reign by Lord Jesus and His elect will be literal.
The following Psalms 2 Scripture is where God promised to Christ Jesus that He would reign over the nations in final with a "rod of iron". It is pointing directly to the future event of Jesus' 2nd coming when He will take that rule over all nations on earth.
Ps 2
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying,
3 "Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us."
That above is the attitude of the rebellious leaders of this present world, and is still their attitude against our Heavenly Father and His Son to this day.
4 He That sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
But the last laugh will belong to our Heavenly Father and His Son at the end of this present world.
5 Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure.
When will the above wrath happen? On the last day of this present world when Jesus' 2nd coming happens, which is about Jesus returning to this earth to take reign over all nations and peoples.
6 Yet have I set My king upon My holy hill of Zion.
That title "Zion" has a wide application in God's Word, but it mainly means the hills that the city of Jerusalem rests upon. That "king" is about our Lord Jesus Christ, King of kings, and LORD of lords. God has ordained that at Lord Jesus' future 2nd coming, He will inherit the throne of His flesh father David, which is an earthly throne. There are all kinds of doctrines of men that try to push Lord Jesus' future reign to Heaven off this earth, but that is not written. Jesus returns to this earth where He ascended to Heaven from, and here on earth at God's Holy Hill Jerusalem, is where Jesus will reign over all nations at His return.
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, "Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten thee."
That is The Father speaking to The Son Jesus Christ. The idea of Jesus being "begotten" is about Jesus being sent among us being born through woman's womb like us, but to die on the cross and resurrected by The Father offering all that would believe the remission of sins and promise of eternal life.
8 Ask of Me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
The Father is still speaking the above to His Son Jesus Christ. When Lord Jesus returns, He will be the ONLY God over all nations and peoples on earth, ruling over all the earth.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
And Jesus' future reign will be with that "rod of iron" upon those nations. That rod of iron is for correction and punishment upon the rebellious for that future time after Jesus' return. Zechariah 14:16-21 reveals that leftovers of the nations that will come up against Jerusalem on the last day of this world will be made to come to Jerusalem to worship Christ, The KING, and keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And those nations which refuse to come up, there will be no rain upon their lands as a punishment. Thus even after Lord Jesus' future return, there will still exist an element of the rebellious. Those are who His "rod of iron" is for.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
KJV
That is about the future event of Christ's literal "thousand years" reign of Revelation 20 over the nations, including unsaved nations. No rain upon the lands of the rebellious nations who refuse to come up to Jerusalem from year to year to worship Christ points to a time when His wrath is kindled but a little. By that it is pointing to that Rev.20 "thousand years" being a literal period.
Rev 2:25-29
25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
Jesus gave this Message to the Church at Thyatira. They had problems and He told them to repent. But what they already had in Him, He told them to hold onto until His future 2nd coming.
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of My Father.
There Jesus references The Father's Promise of Psalms 2 to Jesus that He would reign over all nations with that "rod of iron". Jesus promised His elect would reign with Him with that "rod of iron" also.
What this does is reveal the TIME when that reign by Jesus over all nations with that "rod of iron" will take place. By Jesus commanding those at the Church of Tyratira to hold fast what they had until His future coming, that reveals His reign with that "rod of iron" is still future to us, and won't happen until His future 2nd coming.
28 And I will give him the morning star.
29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
KJV
That last phrase, "... what the Spirit saith unto the churches," also reveals the TIMING of this "rod of iron" prophecy and reign over the nations. It reveals that reign is still future to us even with Christ's future return, and with a literal... reigning over all nations on earth. It is easy by a quick look around to know this has not happened yet today. And since it is hard-linked with the Psalms 2 prophecy, it is clear also that Lord Jesus has NOT yet returned today, nor is He reigning on God's Holy Hill Zion in the city of Jerusalem which is on earth, which is where His return will be per Zech.14.
