Got through chapter 5 after dinner.

Back on the horse. Have you thought about how much time you’ve spent with Jesus at this point?

But why would ethnicity matter in the spiritual realm? It seems silly to me.

It’s not just ethnicity. As we progress in our reading we’ll find that the spiritual realm isn’t confined to heaven.

We should probably start a new thread for questions that come up in your mind during our reading.

Not enough, I'd say.

Not a bad idea. It's good we're not reading the Old Testament. For when I read it, my questions are legion. :funlaugh2

Matthew 7 has 29 verses. I read verses 1-14 today. I’ll read verses 15-29 on Thursday.

There are 28 Chapters in Matthew. Once we complete Thursday’s reading we’ll have read 25% of the Chapters in Matthew. We have a modest goal but we’re still making good progress in a short period of time.

Are you keeping pace with me @Riven?

I’ve read today’s ten minute portion of Matthew @Riven.

I haven’t heard from you for several days now, but I‘ve seen that you’ve posted elsewhere on the forum during that time. Are you still reading with me?

Jesus submitted to who he called "Father", just as your own right hand submitts to you. Body language.

I don’t think that explanation would be well received by a Muslim or a Jew.

“The Father is greater than I.” Jesus isn’t the Father. The Father is his God. Other person / other body language.

“The second rule is to read the book. It is not asked that it be studied in the ordinary sense, or memorized, or even sought be understood at first, but simply read. The purpose is to make the task as easy, as natural, and as pleasant as possible. It matters not, for the time being, how rapidly you read it, if you but read it.

(James M. Gray, How to Master the English Bible, p. 23)

That is what you and I have been doing in this test @Riven.

Now, if you want to continue, we’ll have to do it around members who have suddenly developed an interest in the OP!

P.S.

Or we could start a new thread for the express purpose of reading together. Whatever you want to do in regard to the matter is fine with me, but I do need for you to let me know at your earliest convenience.

God is only One God.

God is only one person. That is your analogy. It works exceedingly well with Jewish monotheism. Yet it won’t be effective with Jewish monotheists (nor with Muslims) unless and until you correctly identify who that one person is.

Side note: Your analogy won’t be effective with trinitarians, binitarians and many unitarians.

Why do you think of yourself as greater than God?

I don’t.

Is He not capable of more than you are?

He is.

Being a non-trinitarian yourself, you’ve quite naturally taken a non-trinitarian approach to explaining the matter of Jesus submitting himself to his God to non-trinitarian Muslims and Jews. The body language approach is excellent but only if it is done as Paul does it. Paul isn’t teaching his audience that the one-person God of Jesus is Jesus himself.

Not my "analogy", but the word of God: "The Lord our God, the Lord is one!" Deuteronomy 6:4

Why do you assume that Paul had the last word on the matter? Did he say he was in possession of "all truth?"

Paul is an apostle. You aren’t, and you’ve gone beyond him; I haven’t. I hope we’re not going to get into your personal experience story again. We’ve been through it a couple of times already and it isn’t going to persuade me. We both know that. Right?
