From my X / Twitter “Following” feed this morning-
“#OTD April 30, 304:
The harshest anti-Christian edict if Diocletian's Great Persecution was published. It ordered all inhabitants of the empire to offer sacrifice to the gods, resulting in widespread arrests, torture, and executions. The persecution, driven especially by Galerius, became one of the most severe in early Church history. Years later, on April 30, 311, the same Galerius, dying from a gruesome illness, issued the Edict of Toleration, ending the official persecution just days before he death.”
(Today in Christian History)
The persecuted Christians weren’t “
armed, ready to kill.” They were faithful to the teaching of Jesus and the Apostles. They overcame evil with good.
