If you were born in 1997, read Lincoln saying in 1861, “when this generation has passed away,” and then insisted with a straight face that Lincoln meant YOU standing here in 2026, the problem would no longer be interpretation. It would be that some outside system had so thoroughly colonized your reading that ordinary language could no longer reach you.

That's exactly what you're doing to Christ’s words when you drag “this generation” two thousand years into the future without a single verse authorizing it. At that point, the text is no longer being interpreted. It's being overruled by the system.

You’re not giving me context. You’re handing me your system’s prefab conclusion, stapling the word “context” to it, and expecting that to settle the argument.

Luke 21:27 says:

“then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”

Fine.

But your argument is:

“That has never happened, therefore ‘this generation’ must be future.”

That is dangerously circular.

You first assume verse 27 means a still-future physical return, then you use that assumption to redefine “this generation” in verse 32.

The text itself says:

“when YE see these things…”
“THIS generation shall not pass…”

So the question is not whether your theology says verse 27 is future.

The question is:

Where does Jesus Himself move “this generation” away from the people He was speaking to?

Show me the verse.

Because “I know this part is future, therefore ‘this generation’ must also be future” is not context. That’s the trick your system uses to smuggle the conclusion into the text. That's how the three-ring circus ends up with Princess Leia married to Chewbacca.

It's your system's conclusion being used to control the text.

And saying “you can’t hear it” doesn't solve that problem.

Book. Chapter. Verse.

Show where Jesus identifies a different generation. >

Spoiler alert, He never does.

Not to mention that your system creates a Christological five-alarm fire, because we’d have to accept that Jesus Christ misled the very followers He was speaking to; or else that He was simply mistaken about His own prophecy.

Either way, you have made Christ fallible.

And a fallible Christ who can be prophetically mistaken is not the Son of God.
When did Jesus return on the clouds with power and great glory?

It has always been about the Jews/Israel who are of faith.......like the faithful forefathers beginning with Abraham.......they are the Israel of God. The tree that we Gentiles have been grafted into is the Israel of God, not Israel after the flesh. Because "They are not all Israel who are of Israel"....as the bible says. "Israel after the flesh" is by definition unbelieving Israel. Any time a Jewish person comes to faith in Christ they no longer belong to Israel after the flesh, but the Israel of God.

We are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers.......that includes unbelieving Israel. Friendship with the world is ENMITY with God.
Ezekiel 11:17-20
17 Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "I will gather you from the peoples, assemble you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel."

And He did. Israel is home to stay in the Land of the Bible, Israel where Jesus will return, just where He left, Acts 1.

And He will give them a new heart and spirit.

'
18 And they will go there, and they will take away all its detestable things and all its abominations from there. 19 Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, 20 that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

And Jesus will return to the Land of Israel and fight for them!

But the bible is not ordinary language. It is a spiritual book, speaking in spirit, of spiritual things. It is not limited/confined the same way ordinary language is.

The land of Israel is the promised land..........which is an allegory/parable for the kingdom of God which comes not with observation that you may say lo here it is or there, but is WITHIN us, as Jesus said.

Jesus returning in glory does not magically make YOU the “this generation” He was speaking to.

That’s the entire sleight of hand in the system..

You're taking one event you believe is still future and using it to transfer Christ’s audience 2,000 years forward.

But even if verse 27 is future, that still doesn't prove that “this generation” means your generation.

You still need the verse where Jesus says:

By ‘this generation,’ I mean people living thousands of years from now.”

He never says that.

So “Jesus has not returned yet” is not proof that He was talking to you.

It's only proof that your system needs Him to have been talking to you.

Allegory/parable? That's a JW argument. Are you JW? You really don't know where Jesus will return???

To the lurkers who are absolutely terrified and rightly so; asking - "How could this have possibly happened!?!"

Very easily.

Give a theological system a hundred years to reproduce itself through pulpits, prophecy conferences, study Bibles, radio, television, and family tradition, and eventually people stop asking whether the doctrine comes from the text at all.

They start thinking like this:

“Our interpretation is not contradicted by God’s Word. Your inability to find it in the text merely proves that you do not understand God’s Word. The text does not naturally produce our doctrine, so you must first accept our doctrine in order to understand God’s Word.”

That’s how a system becomes self-sealing.

Because the absence of the doctrine from the text is no longer treated as a problem.

It's treated as proof that you need the system.

So if you don’t think Leia was married to Chewbacca, the problem is apparently YOU. You’re “unenlightened.”
You just haven’t accepted the system that teaches you how to see what the text never says.

And yes - this is the same system that ultimately has to make Christ misleading or fallible in order to survive.

So there's that..

Luke 21:24
24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations.

And they were.

24 And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Israel recovered West Jerusalem in 1948 and East Jerusalem in 1967. Right where Jesus will return, the Mt. of Olives!

Luke 21:32
32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till ALL THINGS
take place.

IOW, some who were alive when Israel recovered Jerusalem will still be alive when ALL THINGS take place, including when Jesus returns!

The times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. And right on time here comes Rev 13, the Mark of the Beast, Cashless society, World Government !!!

FYI, Jerusalem is Capital of Israel!

Stop dodging the question. Jesus was supposed to return at the time of "this generation" If he didn't then we know that the generation he was referring to was not the one of 70ad. So, has Jesus returned yet?

You just stated the problem more clearly than I ever could.

“If he didn't then we know that the generation he was referring to was not the one of 70ad.”

No.

What you actually mean is:

“Because I've already decided what Christ's coming must look like, I know ‘this generation’ cannot mean the generation Jesus was speaking to.”

That's your doctrine correcting the text.

You're not deriving the identity of “this generation” from Christ's words.

You're deriving it from your prior interpretation of another event, and then using that interpretation to overrule Christ's explicit time marker.

That's the entire issue.

Jesus said:

YOU.
THESE THINGS.
THIS GENERATION.

Your answer is essentially:

“Yes, but my interpretation of His coming makes that impossible, so He must have meant somebody else.”

Then show us where Jesus changed the generation.

Book. Chapter. Verse. >>>>>>>>

Because “my theology requires a different generation” is not a verse.

I notice you still evade the question that refutes your position. When did Jesus return on the clouds with power and great glory? That is the real point.

Exhausting..

No, you're still just repeating the premise that created the problem.

You're saying:

“Jesus could not have meant that generation because I believe His coming must still be future.”

That's not an answer.

That's your system's interpretation of the coming being used to override Christ’s explicit time marker.

At that point, you're no longer letting Christ’s words correct your theology.

You're making your theology correct Christ’s words... and then accusing me of evading a question that only exists because you corrected Christ’s words in the first place.

That's the problem.

You still have not shown where Jesus changed the generation.

Book. Chapter. Verse. >

Because “He has not returned yet” is not a verse saying “this generation” means another generation, your generation and every generation thereafter.

It's simply the reason your theology needs Christ to have meant somebody else in order to work.

And if Christ actually meant the generation He named, but your system still says the prophecy failed, then your system has created an even worse problem:

a fallible Christ who was mistaken about His own prophecy.

The critical thinkers in here are besides themselves.. .

"Jesus said:

Your answer is essentially:

Yes, but my interpretation of His coming makes that impossible.”

Exactly. You said the quiet part out loud.

And what does that tell you?

That's the point where every critical thinker reading this sits back in their chair and goes:

“Wait... if your interpretation makes Christ's explicit time marker impossible, why are you correcting the time marker instead of questioning your interpretation?”

And I'll tell you why they're not questioning it:

“Our interpretation is not contradicted by God’s Word. Your inability to find it in the text merely proves that you do not understand God’s Word. The text does not naturally produce our doctrine, so you must first accept our doctrine in order to understand God’s Word.”

As easy as 1, 2, 3....

“Here we observe yet another previously overlooked dispensation: the Honeymoon Cloud City Incident, during which Chewbacca became intoxicated, destroyed Lando’s bar, and caused great distress to his new bride Princess Leia, who was ultimately forced to bail him out of jail.”

chewy.jpeg

And boy don't try to tell them thats not what the script actually says, or you'll be in for it..

Once the system has decided what the text must mean, pointing out that the text does not actually say it is treated as the problem.
