Yes that is the only mention and it relates to the dead not necessarily to the tattoo itself. I like the way the NET Bible translates it;
You must not slash your body for a dead person or incise a tattoo on yourself.

I know many people who use vs 28 as a reason for not having tattoos but the problem is they ignore verse 27. So basically they're making a choice on what to obey and what not to, and in my opinion everything in the levitical law is obsolete, so there's no requirement to obey any of it.
Where do you see Gods word as obsolete ? Jesus said in Matthew 5:17 Think not that I come to destroy the law, or the prophets I am not come to destroy but to fulfil. Just as God never changes His word never changes.

If you had a tattoo before you received the gift of Salvation, well that was then. But the scripture is very clear about what we should represent, We are in this World, BUT be not of it, don't be like them, be separate, do not Emulate them!

God doesn't care how we treat our bodies?
Isn't our body a temple for the Holy Spirit?

I would consider weather or not the Jews had a choice, they obliviously did not have a choice, weather they died by gas, or firing squad. I do not condemn people for their choices, I agree that that is and will be between the Individual and their Savior. The real question is, what doe's God Care about? I Worship God not people, so I try to consider what God would care about.

And tattos do what?? Just adding another layer of sin, the way christians carry on, it would be impossible for God to save man.
I didn't say it would cause loss of salvation.
It's like smoli g.
Why change or damage your body?
I believe Leviticus specifically states not to cut your body.

women wear makeup, so what, people paint the outside of wine jars, does it contaminate what is on teh inside?? Mankind has enough problems to deal with on this earth without "christians" doing what the pharisees did, and adding more and more rules to live by.

Sorry, my keyboard is giving me grief...
Up above, apparently, I meant SMOKING.
It's not a sin IMO, but it also is not what God would want for us.
I think He'd like our lungs to be nice and pink.

A wine jar is not a person.
Make-up is removable and does not harm us.

A tatoo is changing how we look.
It's damaging the body we were born with.
Ditto for piercinggs.
Have you seen what some people do to themselves?

Are we supposed to be different from everyone or the same?
The verse I was thinking of is Leviticus 19:28

So where is the limit?

Is it OK for a Christian to wear gothic make-up?
Get tatoos
Get piercings
wear mini skirts
low cut tops

Is it OK to look like the modern girls I see walking around?
When I was that age, hookers looked like that.

Do you have any standards at all??

P.S.

YES!

Our outside does contaminate our inside because we're judged by how we look.
If we love Jesus, we should Honor Him with our inside and our outside.

Do we not say that baptism is an outward expression of an inner state?

Ditto for how we look.

We cannot demand that other Christians keep our standards.
I know a street preacher who has his ears pierced, and his nose!
Also tattoo's, and a long pony tail.

If God told him to do that, fine...it's his business. I don't like it myself.
They say it is "to be all things to all men."
I don't see that helping someone out of a ditch that the best way to do that is to jump into the ditch too!!!!
I don't see the rational myself.
But I would never tell him that he is wrong , or sinful in doing so.
It's the heart that God looks at.

Do you wear make up, is it a sin to wear make up, to wear make up must bring dishonour to Jesus according to you, as it hides His creation from the world does it not. See you just created another stumbling block for those trying to come to Christ.

I think you may as well give up - she has the face of an angel. :)

...Just kidding. Render what is fashion to fashion, and unto God what is God's.

I see.
So if we don't want to create stumbling blocks, ANYTHING should be allowed?
One should realize that becoming Christian will have a price.
The early Christian's realized this.
Some were fed to Lions.
Some were burned.

What are you willing to do?
Anything?

Some were fed to Lions.
Some were burned.
And many are just ridiculed. As i have said before, if it was up to man, no one would be saved, everything is a sin, even breathing, as you breath in polluted air and it contaminates your body which is a temple.. Jeess, Good thing we have grace,...
