bbyrd009, we all have different experiences with the Word and I realize what makes an impression on one person, might not even warrant a second read by another. I have mentioned this passage of scripture multiple times on here, because for me; Acts 7 made an impact.
Steven is about to be stoned for his witness and he said:
Acts 7:56-60 KJV
[56] ... Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
The Son of man stands, not sits. Not while Stephen is stoned.
[57] Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, [58] And cast him out of the city, and stoned him : and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
Laying their clothes at Saul's feet, for me, implies Saul gave the order.
[59] And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God , and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. [60] And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
It is debatable what "lay not this sin to their charge" means. For me, until God reveals otherwise: it was the cry of the Spirit(Christ). Not Stephen.
Speaking of "hot coals" of conviction on a person's head: Saul is blinded. He suffers. Is brought to his knees, made low, to see all his fleshly accomplishments are all "dung". Saul is redeemed(plucked from the fire). Again, for me, an answered prayer. Saul becomes Paul.
Later: Stephen is still on Paul's mind.
Acts 22:19-21 KJV
[19] And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee: [20] And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him. [21] And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.
Romans 13:4 KJV
[4] For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Jesus Christ standing. Not sitting. Could this be a better definition of "slaying in the Spirit" instead of today's definition? By the way: I couldn't even find "slaying in the Spirit" in the bible?
"Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." for "he(the LORD) beareth not the sword in vain"
