When you are confronted with God and He asks why you think you ought to be in heaven, what will you say?

People may think this is a stupid question but where a person's eternal life is spent depends
on the answer that person can give.

Me to God:

"When I called out to you, you answered, and guided me to your word, and I have believed all that is written, that you sent your Son to save and to bring eternal life to all who receive Him. Thank you forever!"

Hmmm , I am not sure I believe that God will ask that question.
Can I ask why you think he will?

You beat me to it...when I read the OP I was going to say that too. :)

If it happened, I would say something like... In 1964 I heard you calling me..
it has taken me many years to get here...and finally here I am.

But the thing is...when I have walked hand in hand with God daily and walked and talked with Him all the time...I would be a bit shocked if when we finally arrive , He would suddenly turns to me and says- " Why do you expect to come in with Me?" :)

HR, i'd stay open to other interps of "eternal life" at least, ok.
Life is here, on earth, right now.
"Eternal life" is a construct that you cannot verify your understanding of, not saying that it is false or anything, bc i do not know;
but there is no reason whatsoever that that cannot be interpreted "so you all won't go extinct," ok.

HR: interesting
Well of course you are inquiring whether the answer given aligns with what a true believer would/should say…this question is really not happening though.

I should be in heaven (Kingdom of Heaven) because of these types of answers:

- I believe in your son who knows me.

- I have your spirit and divine nature within me that your son also possesses

- I’m here in my glorious body you promised me as proof of my faith in your son as I call you my Father.

No, no, no...

Matthew 25:31-34
When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world..."

Matthew 25:46
"...And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

I understand that the biggest question He would have for any of us would be :" So, what have you learned of Love?"

Yes, for me it kind of turns the tables on me and places what I say as being a deciding factor. Also can any of us truly define' how ' we would react, let alone what we would say , when we are face to face with God.
I would not have a clue what I would say
The OP has a definate within it ' where we will be WILL be determined by our answer ' - this is why I am curious to know why HRichard thinks this will happen.

I am just not that foolish to believe I could ever come up with a reason to justify God letting me into heaven, Maybe once upon a time when I was young and foolish, but know I know that I am, we are justified by Christ and what He has done, well i dont think I could answer Him.

It is a great question and one the church I attend has used when going door to door, it is almost as good as the tract we had printed, 'No thanks not interested.' Because that was a common reaction.

What would I reply, the same as mjrhealth, Jesus paid my penalty and gave me his rightousness, it is because of him that I can come.

I doubt that that question would ever arise because God knows who are his. 2 Timothy 2:19
