Everything has it's limits...there will be no piercing other than my EARS, lol...
3 one side and 2 in the other as you have, would have been slightly edgy and the height of fashion when it started to be done 40 years ago...but now it's just very nice and not remotely unusual and confidently done by both teens and venerable grandmothers.

Oh i have seen my share of Grammas with piercings and tattoos!!! It seems that in an attempt to be different, these fads just make everybody the same. It has been so long since I wore earrings, or any jewelry of any kind...I am surprised my ear piercings have not closed up! lol

I've not worn earrings recently, but the time has long gone since ppl could really say that men don't wear earrings (just as the time has long past since ppl could say that it's only men that become tattooed). So does your dh ever 'need' reminding from you to wear his earring? :)

No, but if he ever forgets his earring and we are in the car he runs back up just to put it in. It is like me and my purse. Can't leave home without it. :)

I guess what I meant was that some grammas have probably continually worn multiples for 40 years; it really is that well established a practice.

Sounds like you don't even have to remind him!

It's certainly worthwhile for guys to have them pierced in, if they would thereafter be likely to wear them regularly, isn't it?

I know for some ppl anyway 1 each side is such an ingrained habit with which they they are entirely satisfied, that the idea of extras being put in doesn't cross their minds.

The trouble with me is...I have worn them for so many decades now..I don't even remember that I have them.
My daughter had two more added either side...but only wore them for a year, she took out the extras because she didn't like them ...not 'comfortable'.

One of my grand daughter has about 6 each side...(small graduating diamonds) she seems happy with them at the moment.

I work for my son in law one morning a week ( I am almost 77)
He is a plastic surgeon...having the multiples can cause a problem if the cartilage in the ear is pierced...some people have 'collapsed' ears , cartilage damage cannot be repaired.
Many men come with problems when they have worn those great BIG plug things. Then they 'grow up' or their girl friend hates them or something...and they want the holes sewn up. Plus...some come with ripped ear lobes...or with loads of lumpy scar tissue....

So, the earrings can come with some risk involved. :)

Interesting! I guess when it comes to the huge plugs on the one hand and a tiny extra stud on the lobe on the other, it's really a case of apples and oranges, right?

Sounds like your granddaughter has done hers tastefully, anyway, with gradually smaller ones alongside. (Don't young people grow up so fast!) I guess your daughter is not surprised that your granddaughter wanted to get extras, since she herself once did it.

I only have one piercing in each ear - never really wanted anymore. I had mine done when I was 16 years old. I do not wear earrings very often as we are not allowed jewellery at work.
I am not keen on mums who get their babies ears pierced, babies look cute without needing to enhance it, but that is just my opinion.

There's a classic timelessness about one in each ear, right? it used to be kind of the standard 'default' way of doing it. Seems also like that for many women 2 each side has for a long time become the 'default'; while one each side is often they way men do it.

@Taken FYI, did you see this recent thread and poll?

Piercings for the purpose of attaching an adornment to the body has had a long and historical meaning for what and who the adornment is attached.

From a bride adorning herself FOR her Husband, to identifying slaves, to the purpose of satisfying their craving of attention, to making onself look like a freak (separating themselves from looking like others ).

IMO, It's a personal preference of How one chooses to project something about themselves to anyone observing them.

I favor a bride adorning herself FOR her "Husband" and Her Husband adorning His "Wife".

God Bless,

Some accurate points there; I don't think that young ppl particularly wait to get married before piercing their ears, though.

The bondservant theme in Scripture is also relevant (as maybe you obliquely imply).

Thank-you for your comment.

Agree on your point of young people particularly.
Observe first the decline of their family generations before them, and the generational increase that the world is their model to imulate and governments are their parents, to direct and care for them.

Anything goes in the world, and "everything" is acceptable, "without" accountablility.

It is a ploy to prime, well taught and expected to come to pass, as revealed in Scripture.

Obviously this speaks to a bigger picture, beyond "piercings". Just saying, every little step, acceptance, following along, particularly continuously bombarded upon the weak....IS an intent to divert one away from the Lord.

Sheesh....TV...a thing in nearly every household, with many children having complete control over TV's in their rooms....
And the Commercials? Yipes. They are no longer trying to sell a product...they are selling indoctrination!

Sorry didn't mean to disrupt your "piercings" thread.

God Bless,
Taken
