Feel free to enlighten me, just don't judge me. I am studying and open. I cannot just quote scripture, all I know is, j was the last letter added to the english alphebet, jesus and jehovah are not the names.. over and over HE says know HIS name.. call His name. Wouldnt want to be spit out.. if you know, please share
Easy my friend. God is the fairest being you will ever encounter. The ones to be spit out are those who work hard to walk in the middle of the road, neither for the ways of men alone nor for the Way of God alone. This is the lukewarm, fence walking bunch:

Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

There are people who say they know Him and will say, Jesus or God or something else from scripture, but is that knowing His name? Is knowing what He was called in the original languages knowing His name. This is just a taste, but let us not pursue it here. I will start a new thread just per your request here.

"A tree is known by its fruit" - which is also true of God, and is the reason for the reference to His name.

You will hear different names and them defined as "logos", meaning "word" or "reason." Thus, if we "know" His name, we know Him by what He has shown of Himself, and why Jesus and the Father are One, and why He said, "If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father."

His name is the revelation of Himself.

Sometimes, I believe, people have a revelation on this from God but are unable to provide a definition that everyone understands. Of course anyone else who also has had a revelation of what God's name is would probably also understand. Does this even make sense to someone who walks without God although he might think he walks with God?

Such things, if indeed they ever come, are like time-release revelations from God. He decides just when and to whom. So glad He is the only One with that power. :)

God's personal name in the original languages of the Old Testament is Yahweh. In English it is Jesus Christ. Here is an example found in Jude 5.
“Now I desire to remind you (even though you have been fully informed of these facts once for all) that Jesus, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, later destroyed those who did not believe.” (Jude 5)

If you know God delivered the Jews from Egypt, then you know he is Jesus according to the English language.

I guess we are speaking here the difference, if there is one, between knowing His name in our head according to man's studies of the scriptures and the original languages and knowing His name in our heart.

The man in the barroom who curses another using the word, Jesus , with his physical mouth likely has no revelation from God about the name of God, or does he?

Not to stray off topic, but I think people still take the Lord's name in vain when they use substitute cuss words, "Judas Priest". "Jeezy Pete" etc. Because it is the same cussing attitude of the heart doing it. Back on topic.........

Most certainly. Other examples are misspellings or mispronouncing the F... word to avoid offending someone. But some people have developed callouses against feeling bad for hurting someone else's feelings. In the world of men we should expect such careless attitudes but too often we see people labelling themselves as Christians habitually doing the same things.

Ooops, for some reason i thought i was talking to bbyrd privately. I'm sorry to have upset anyone. I'm surprised and disappointed there aren't 20+ Jesus/Yeshua answers. I'm baptised in Jesus name and I pray in His name.
@Dave L thank you for an answer without judgement

For 6000 years there has been a great controversy between Christ and Satan. That controversy hinges on the character of God. Throughout history, particularly in the ancient east but also elsewhere, peoples names were reflections of their character. I believe that to know God by name, does not necessarily mean we have a perfect handle on what to call Him...Adonai...Jehovah...Yeshua….Jesus...Lord God Almighty; God is gracious...He isn't going to dump on us if we get that slightly skewed. But what we must do is to get right our views on who He is...what H eis like, without which we cannot at all express a true faith. If we don't know or understand what He is like, how can we place our trust in Him?
Exodus 34:
5 ¶ And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.
6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

The bolded above is the name of God. This is the name we must be familiar with, that we must know Him by. We accept that, we know that, we will not fall.

When first saved then baptized in the Holy Spirit with accompanying gift I went around praying in the spirit. Having experienced this outside of any church or denominational walls it was all a mystery to me. Only by reading the Bible did I discover what had happened to me, that I'd been convicted, saved and baptized in the Holy Spirit. Fortunately I'd escaped the talons of denominationalism and the instructions on what God did and no longer did.

There was a word I didn't know as if I knew any of them that I repeated in my prayer language very frequently. It was YESH-ua.

The emphasis is a strong YESH with the - ua- falling off very softly. It was later I learned the word was the name of Jesus. I hear that word pronounced just the opposite with the emphasis yesh-SHUA. Probably makes no difference to anyone but me but I'll stick with the pronunciation I was originally given.

I knew Jesus was in my prayers for I said his name very often in the mysterious, secret words I prayed

The nature is in the name. We know back in the OT they were named by prophesy ...they were called by a name which reflected the nature that they displayed. And in some..God change the name slightly or with some, completely.

God reveals His nature within the names He has given us of Himself.
As I see it.

We must remember that second great commandment:

"And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Matt 22:39

If we have a doubt about who our neighbor is, I would guess we could simply love everybody. Who was it that Jesus did not love?

As for the giving offense sometimes we need to simply keep our mouths shut rather than giving unnecessary offense to anyone. God always knows when to speak and when to be silent. Following Him so do we, but following our own flesh we surely will come up short...

Being sensitive can be a good thing my friend, but not to the point of never saying anything. Sometimes God really wants us to speak even though by doing so we will be attacked by others. Just always as well along with the speaking to them give also God the glory!

Lots of Bible teachers and preachers around with words to give us but there are just a very few it seems who have the Word to share with us as God directs. Knowing the difference is probably according to knowing His name for real. Give God the glory!

satan himself masquerades as an angel of light
And maybe what we see is expressed by or through a man who is simply a devil who quotes scriptures. Is every Bible spouter a man of God in every word he speaks? But it does comes at us from not less than two directions, doesn't it?

"And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;" John 11:49-51

Was this not the same high priest who led or instigated the conspiracy against Jesus?. He did not even know the Name, but God used him to prophesy about the One whom he sought to kill.
