I voted for Trump

Tell me, is the following what you voted for--?
The Trump I see today is NOT the man he “said” he was during the election

Trump Signs Bill Revoking Obama-Era Gun Checks for People With Mental Illnesses

President Donald Trump quietly signed a bill into law Tuesday rolling back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Monday rejected an Obama-era plan to make automobiles more fuel efficient, opening up a long process to weaken current standards and putting California and the federal government on a collision course over vehicle emissions.

Trump sons' hunting in focus as US lifts import ban on African elephant trophies

The Trump administration’s decision to loosen restrictions around the import of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia has turned attention back to the president’s family’s own connection to the controversial sport.

Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump are prolific big-game hunters and during the 2016 campaign, images re-emerged of the pair on a 2011 hunting trip posing with animals they had killed on safari, including an elephant, a buffalo and a leopard.

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump again called for an end to the filibuster and said there will be no deal with Democrats on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA.

"Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release. Getting more dangerous. 'Caravans' coming. Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL," Trump tweeted Sunday morning.

Now I can add this---

I supported Trump because it was readily apparent that the Lord chose him. That in and of itself would be enough for me, but then considering the moves he's made on behalf of Israel and Christians and I don't get why Christians wouldn't be supporting him.

Tell me, Too Old. When's the last time a President of the United States supported a bill to mandate the teaching of Bible studies in the public schools?

If the varied debates that ensue on this forum are a fair cross-section for what passes as Christianity today, the last thing I would support is Bible studies being offered by the generally liberal minded teaching community that proliferates your public school system today. If we Christians cannot decide between one another on what is acceptable Christian doctrine, why should we trust the public system to get it right?
Now of course your reply will be something along the lines of "we will ensure we have properly affiliated or licenced Bible teachers to fill the role. Which denomination will they teach their lessons from? A government sanctioned denomination???

My reply was going to be "I smell SDA fear of the church/state," LoL.
Not to worry, Brakelite. It won't happen anyway. I was just pointing out to Too Old that this particular President is unlike any we've had before, or at least in the last 40+ years I've been alive.

Absolutely no-one could argue with that. Both in relation to the support, and the opposition. I have been around for a while too...Kennedy was the first president I have genuine recollection of...no president since then has engendered so much extreme in public perceptions of his office, or his entitlement to hold it. Quite extraordinary. And hugely fascinating. It will be a hard act to follow.

If the media was not attacking him every moment and actually reported on his achievements he would be known as the excellent, decisive leader he is. Sadly, far too many in the states have no idea what's good for them, no concept of history, no forward thinking perception, and only parrot what mainstream sources of information tell them to think. His presence in the oval office is a wake up call and once he's gone, oh boy, get ready.

Who will do the teaching?

Good question. I think the curriculum should be to present Christianity from a historical point of view. It should be non-denominational. I get your concern though. This would be a subject that would be difficult to standardize because many teachers would likely inject their own denominational beliefs into their classes. Still, I think it's better than nothing really.

You realise that you will have Catholics and Protestants in the same class. Whose version of history is going to be offered? The version that says Christians were only killed by the state and a few exceptional clerics who went a little too far, and only a few thousand were treated unfairly anyway, besides which, heresy was a civil law and not religious so the church is blameless....or the version that says countless millions were killed at the request of the church and the state rulers acquiesced because their titles and thrones were constantly under threat of a rival pro-papal lackey...
Do you offer for reading such classics as the teachings of "Saint" Thomas Aquinas (known within Catholicism as the greatest doctor of the faith the church has had) who stated the church has every right to persecute and kill heretics...do you offer for reading material the classic by renowned historian A J Wylie who wrote "The History of the Waldenses" , a book that details 100s of years of determined efforts on behalf of Catholic princes, kings, priests, and their hired mercenaries to wipe them from the face of the planet?
How can anyone possibly approach religious history and be permitted by either side to present what is deemed "acceptable"? Add to that ongoing and historical debate over the formulation of the trinity...the establishment of sunday observance...Christmas...easter...Papal influence in wars throughout history….Protestant persecutions of Catholics and the devastating results of genocide upon native peoples in all parts of the world from both Catholic and Protestant armies....

Ok, we are, of course, getting all of the standard "You can't do it because..." replies. But, who is going to act differently than our negatively stupid and stubborn Congress, and attempt to present a workable answer?

(*FriendOf* tried with the "History" approach, but we need more.)

Each of them can be presented and discussed. The class shouldnt be designed to promote one over the other, but to present historical fact.

The version that says Christians were only killed by the state and a few exceptional clerics who went a little too far, and only a few thousand were treated unfairly anyway, besides which, heresy was a civil law and not religious so the church is blameless..

Digging up this part of history may not ven be necessary. The class could focus more on other key points of influence. It could also be more focused on the last 200-500 years and detail the impact Christianity has had over western society. I think it would be good to teach about the differing beliefs held by Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants and governments young people to option to decide for themselves. Just because the Reformation happened and was a bloody abomination doesnt mean this event had to be covered in detail, it can be touched on though.

You are getting too academic. We are talking about a high school level course here, not a university PHD level study filled with Masters of Divinity scholars. Most of the concepts you listed could be covered briefly without entering the fray of ancient debates over the finer points of dogma

A religious studies class should study the basics. Bring in a guest speaker from each group, as in nondenominational, Catholic, liberal and Bible only. Let them define what their group believes is the foundation of their beliefs and a brief summary of what they believe.

And of course that means all religions that want to be represented, which includes atheists and Muslims as examples.

No proselytizing allowed.

I do hope everyone realizes toooldtocare is an atheist.

His cartoons are straight out of radical democrat playbooks.

I say that as a conservative independent Vet who has held elective office and worked in national intelligence.

So, want to call me biased? You better believe I am. For good reason.

Remember, we are not looking at a "religious studies" class... but rather, a class teaching about the Bible in use in Christendom today.
