I voted for Trump
If the varied debates that ensue on this forum are a fair cross-section for what passes as Christianity today, the last thing I would support is Bible studies being offered by the generally liberal minded teaching community that proliferates your public school system today. If we Christians cannot decide between one another on what is acceptable Christian doctrine, why should we trust the public system to get it right?I supported Trump because it was readily apparent that the Lord chose him. That in and of itself would be enough for me, but then considering the moves he's made on behalf of Israel and Christians and I don't get why Christians wouldn't be supporting him.
Tell me, Too Old. When's the last time a President of the United States supported a bill to mandate the teaching of Bible studies in the public schools?

Now of course your reply will be something along the lines of "we will ensure we have properly affiliated or licenced Bible teachers to fill the role. Which denomination will they teach their lessons from? A government sanctioned denomination???
LOL, you know me too well.My reply was going to be "I smell SDA fear of the church/state," LoL.
Absolutely no-one could argue with that. Both in relation to the support, and the opposition. I have been around for a while too...Kennedy was the first president I have genuine recollection of...no president since then has engendered so much extreme in public perceptions of his office, or his entitlement to hold it. Quite extraordinary. And hugely fascinating. It will be a hard act to follow. Not to worry, Brakelite. It won't happen anyway. I was just pointing out to Too Old that this particular President is unlike any we've had before, or at least in the last 40+ years I've been alive.

Okay, while the principle of Bible education is great, and I would go along with it 150%, I would ask one question with regards the proposal of teaching it in state schools. Who will do the teaching?Every Christian should be in support of this.
Who will do the teaching?
You realise that you will have Catholics and Protestants in the same class. Whose version of history is going to be offered? The version that says Christians were only killed by the state and a few exceptional clerics who went a little too far, and only a few thousand were treated unfairly anyway, besides which, heresy was a civil law and not religious so the church is blameless....or the version that says countless millions were killed at the request of the church and the state rulers acquiesced because their titles and thrones were constantly under threat of a rival pro-papal lackey...Good question. I think the curriculum should be to present Christianity from a historical point of view. It should be non-denominational. I get your concern though. This would be a subject that would be difficult to standardize because many teachers would likely inject their own denominational beliefs into their classes. Still, I think it's better than nothing really.

Add to that ongoing and historical debate over the formulation of the trinity...the establishment of sunday observance...Christmas...easter...Papal influence in wars throughout
Remember, we are not looking at a "religious studies" class... but rather, a class teaching about the Bible in use in Christendom today.
