Not saying I understand the whole Bible, I doubt anyone does. But when my friend has such a bad misunderstanding I wonder what else he has misunderstood and it bothers me. Debating each other also helps us study the word. Flat earth in my mind is another deception and it creates conflict among us. Helping him see the truth is important. If he believes in this flat earth dome system he is believing in a limited God. That's a different God than what I believe in and what his word tells us about him. How anyone can deny what God created for everyone to see is hard for me to understand.
Yes, I know- I wasn't sure if this was the only thing that you could not agree on. I have never really looked at the arguments for a flat earth from scripture - guess it may be interesting to look at.
I just kind of leave creation in the realm of trust, I don't understand everything, but trust that God is the creator. To me, if the world is seen as flat or round makes no difference. Don't you find that debating doesn't always bring revelations to people. On a personal level I often ask God to open my eyes and ears as I recognise that all of us can be decieved or deaf- and perhaps that's what you could pray for you and your friend - then who knows how God will use his word.
I have only really had discussions about creation with my son, he is an athiest - over the years we have come to accept the diversity of our views. We still debate, but not about everything now.
He thinks anyone who believes in a flat earth is mad - says there is enough evidence out there to support a round earth ect. Personally I have never questioned it, and that applies to both my pre Christian life and after I came to faith. We were just taught that way.
Out of interest did he grow up with adults who believed in a flat earth ?

Thing is, God tells us that appearances are deceiving. I can't migrate on an iPad, but a Google Image of "world in a drop of water," those first few at the top, were made strictly by observation too, see. Plus this "everyone to see" has only manifested bc we can all look at pictures that have been taken, not bc a sphere manifests for us naturally, right. Personally I would not believe anyone who cannot describe where 95%+ of the universe is telling me what shape anything is for a certainty lol

Practically speaking how does allowing him to believe what he likes there interfere with your relationship?
Its frustrating and bothersome when a loved one is deceived and not willing to even try and recognize it. He gets offensive at times and so do I. Its not a friendly relationship like it should be.

He grew up thinking the earth is a globe as taught in school. Just in the last 5 years or so has he changed his mind. He's 53 years old now. I'm not sure if his parents are flat earth believers.

Iow "whenever we choose to bring this subject up in conversation," right?
Does the subject ever arise organically? Don't see how it could tbh, unless you are involved in space somehow, make satellites or whatever?

I mean wadr don't you currently believe Eternal = Immortal, and that prolly Jesus is Returning, and/or that you are going to a place called Heaven someday? Are you willing to try and recognize how you may be deceived there?

I am so curious now, to know why he believes what he does. So , you have debated with him - can you remember any scripture he uses ?

Actually there is a Flat Earth Society and they have extensive literature supporting their belief that the earth is flat, not a globe. Check them out.

One wonders what they think about this:
flat-earth.jpg

Or do they suppose every image captured of the solar system is part of the grand conspiracy against them? In which case, I would suggest if they're in that deep, there's probably no reasoning with them.

I hate to say this, but it actually a profound statement and fits

Stupid is as stupid does

There really is nothing satisfying in chasing ‘why’ people are unreasonable

It is sort of like wanting answers from people who have committed a horrific crime.....it is just what they were doing at the moment - they had some spare time on theirs hands.

He doesn't believe in planets or outer space, all a conspiracy in his mind. He thinks they are all just lights under the dome.

Genesis 1 focusing on the water above and the Firmament. Circle of the earth, Foundations, he thinks the earth has a foundation like a house has. The sun stood still. There are many more, sorry I cant remember the verses.

He is not the only one who believes in a flat earth. There are quite a few like him. They do have some very interesting arguments to support their belief.
