Dave L: ""The bible says the gifts expired as scripture replaced them. And history confirms this."

You keep pontificating this nonsense, but never consider the fact that no academic commentary on Acts and 1 Corinthians supports your cultic interpretation of 1 Corinthians 1:8 and 13:8-12. And you are incapable of analyzing these texts in any exegetical detail.

Dave :: "In around AD 150, those who saw the original gifts in operation condemned the Montanists (today's Pentecostal equivalents) for heresy. Partly for claiming they had the same gifts today's Pentecostals claim."

Pathetically, you just refuse to read: it has repeatedly been point out to you that orthodox Church Fathers like Irenaeus and Tertullian continued to celebate the ongoing legitimacy of the gift of tongues.--but you can't hear what your cultic dogma rejects! And what 's your evidence that the Montanists spoke in tongues? I want a quotation here, which you can't produce because your spiritual quest is dishonest and second-hand. btw, 150 AD is a far too early date (try 170 AD) , but then, you have no clue on how to do historical research.

Blessings to all in Christ Jesus! To those that are and those that are not yet. I can not speak for others on this topic but The True Gift of Tongues, then and now, is a complete beautiful language and flows like a river There is no babbling or repetative words except in the case of praying against demonic oppression or possession. Even though I am the least worthy, I do walk in The Spirit as The Lord sees fit. When walking in The Spirit, that is when true preaching is done, as it was done in the early church. The words flow out like a river, just as promised. My job is to be clean(repentance) and believe, believe that He will proved what is needed at that very moment. And He does, without fail, for He is faithful. When one truly becomes One with The Lord, and He with them(John 17) all His promises come to pass, for He is right there to lead you, and guide you, unto all righteousness. And with Him also comes The Spiritual Gifts that He promised. He is Holy and Perfect in all His ways. We are imperfect, but are being perfected daily by Him that is Perfect. But there is a time(A day) that this will cease. But first many things must happen. And happen they will, just as written. Let us all draw nearer, and be prepared to stand, for the time is at hand!

You interpret scripture according to what you've been trained to see. If you break free from that and begin questioning your beliefs as I did, you will see what I'm talking about. Pentecostals Pontificate. Scripture does not.

Dave L: "You interpret scripture according to what you've been trained to see."

You pontificate again without even knowing me! I always consider the possibility that the standard interpretation of Scripture is wrong and then ask, "What would I need to find in Scripture to confim that provisional hypothesis?" Most of the time, the standard interpretation is confirmated by experts in Greek and Hebrew across a broad spectrum of theological backgrounds, including acazdemic skeptics. By constrast, you always pontificate from wthin the framework of your particular Fundamentalist Ghetto and are therefore incapable of temporarily leaving that Ghetto to breathe the fresh air of honest and open intellectual inquiry into the meaning of Scripture .That is why you arrogantly refuse to watch any posted videos that provide an alternative perspective for you to consider and it is why you NEVER get into the Word and discuss the exegetical issues raised by posted texts. You are the epitomy of the closed-minded Pharisee that Jesus often targets for rebuke.

DaveL: If you break free from that and begin questioning your beliefs as I did, you will see what I'm talking about. Pentecostals Pontificate. Scripture does not."

Can it be that you don't realize that Scripture almost always pontificates with prophetic and apostolic authority?

I don't think anyone can overthrow my argument.

GOD can and He DOES!!!

GOD proves you wrong everyday... He is STILL pouring out His Holy Spirit on new Christians every day!! In spite of you telling Him that he cannot!!!

He still gives The Body Of Christ spiritual gifts every day....people still speak in tongues every day...

It seems it doesn't matter how much it is POURING with Spiritual Rain of The Holy Spirit...you still shout your stupidness- " No it is not raining."

Who is the foolish one here Dave?? Go look in a mirror .

So are ,mental patients who do the same.

And there we finally have it!!

Showing us once again your fearful declaration of paranoia against speaking in tongues and gifts of the Spirit.

You are terrified of 'catching a demon.'

You had a "fake experience" so in your tiny mind every experience must be, has to be...... a fake one!!!!

I'm serious about you repenting for all you have declared against the Holy Spirit. Woe unto you.

Take the dark glasses off Dave and try reading your 'pet scriptures' which you have twisted, in the LIGHT!!!

Scripture proves those who "speak in tongues" do so of the flesh and not by the Holy Spirit. And the flesh is crazy left to its own.

He gave me the truth about tongues. He delivered me from Pentecostalism.

Okay, I give up Dave.
Continue on in your delusion.

The strange twist here is..you were scared of tongues and Pentecost after you experience, just in case you 'got a demon' if you stayed open to a true infilling..., but the devil got you anyway...by telling you what you just quoted above...
So the devil still won over you.

I will leave you in peace...for a while...you are so like Marymog, you argue in circles and repeat the same things....

You still do not have the original gift on tongues. You might get an impression while babbling. But the original speakers knew exactly what they were saying and could explain the message to others. Try recording some babbling and have several different groups interpret it. Each will give a different message.
Well at least you are reading what I write even though we still do not agree. In a sense not easy to explain we may be saying, at least in part, some of the same things, but God knows.

My friend, during my daily morning prayer sessions with God I always speak in tongues and He does edify me as I get into the Spirit. Say what you will but you cannot deny my testimony and be pleasing to God. What does edification mean?
I used to Amadeus until all this debate but it does edify me when I do it, especially if I sing in tongues. I should do it more often and not be dragged down by these people who seek to destroy something beautiful. My 'tongue' doesn't sound like babbling it sounds just like a real language with commas and full stops and hand gestures.

No one speaks in tongues today...nobody.
And also consider that Jesus never spoke in parables. And that we are not ever supposed to be like Him. When we close our minds and our hearts to the possibilities of God which limitless, we limit God Himself.

Even so! There are too many people who do not use the gifts of God as they should. No matter what anyone says, listen first to God and let Him direct your steps. If you are sincere with Him, He will lead you where He wants you to go.
